The Tenerife region
Tenerife has a climate that can't be matched anywhere in the world for its benign nature.
The warmest weather is found on the south and west of the island, while the east is generally windier and the north wetter. Also, what cannot be denied, is that Tenerife has the lowest temperature difference between summer and winter of anywhere in the world, with averages of around 15C in winter and 28C in summer.
Tenerife owes its good fortune to its convenient location just north of the Tropic of Cancer - making the climate sub-tropical - and the unusual typography of steep-sided mountains rising to its crowning glory, Mount Teide
Tenerife boasts a wonderful climate where the temperatures rarely drop from 22-24ºC in the winter. Ideal for a winter sun break from the recent harsh weather in Europe.
There is plenty to do and visit on the island, from a trip to the volcano Mount Teide to the famous Loro Park in Puerto de la Cruz.
The Puerto Santiago / Los Gigantes area
Los Gigantes is definitely Tenerife´s best kept secret, full of charm, surrounded by magnificent views, ideal for a relaxing holiday in paradise, with probably the best climate on the sub tropical island with a great variety of quality restaurants, including the harbour where an excellent range of fresh seafood and fish is on offer daily.
There are some lovely black sandy beaches in the area and water sports for the more active include, diving, snorkelling, fishing, sailing, boat trips, dolphin cruising or whale watching...

This apartment is one of several owned by a UK property Company and operated for holiday lets. Subsequently, its decor is modern, light and neutral. You certainly don't feel that you're sitting in someone else's apartment.
All arrangements for payment and access etc. could not have been easier. Email and telephone contact was with Lesley and we also found Francisco, the on-site caretaker, extremely helpful.
The best bits – The large sun terrace with its wonderful views of the mountains, sea and harbour. There are two sun beds and a patio table with six chairs. Also a large wind-out sun canopy.
The other bits – All pretty average really. The small swimming pool was nothing special, but somewhere to cool off. In the lounge there is an ipod player and also free WiFi access.
The worst bits – The beds are of very poor quality. There are two single beds pushed together. The type that one might buy to put up friends for the weekend. Whilst there is a TV in the apartment, there is no satellite connection, so no access to English news channels. There is no built in air conditioning, but a mobile unit. It does sound a bit like a tractor, but you do get used to it after a few days.
Los Gigantes – A quiet harbour town with a handful of restaurants and bars providing live music. Tends to go quiet after midnight. Ideal for the over fifties, but not much to do for the younger generation. There are several supermarkets within five minutes walking distance of the apartment.
Access to the apartment – Ten minutes walk from the harbour to the apartment. This is up a bit of a hill, but unless you have specific problems walking, it should not cause much of a problem to the average guest.
Transfers – You can pick up a taxi from the airport for 50 euros and the local taxi company will collect you from the apartment for your return journey.
Verdict – Although I have highlighted one or two negatives, I would return to this apartment simply for the sun terrace and views.
Tip – The apartment is on Calle El Pino, which you can check out on google earth and street view. You can also take a virtual tour of the bars and restaurants.

The apartment we stayed from 15 December 2012 to 5 January 2013. Tenerife very well known and we choos the apartment because of its location, which we definitely did not disappoint, it is a beautiful and peaceful place. The apartment was reasonably sized for two people with a large and beautiful terrace, clean and fully equipped. We were upset that there is no housekeeping or linen, also a day in the morning often flowed water for more than an hour, and the apartment was not available password to connect to the internet, which was inconveniently placed light line in the bedroom of our apartment for an entire floor (or house ?). I would recommend it for a relaxing holiday and exploring the island by car, with small children I would have picked a different place.
