The Gran Canaria region
Gran Canaria is probably the most popular of Spain's Canary Islands.
The capital city is Las Palmas.
Gran Canaria is located south east of Tenerife and west of Fuerteventura. The island is of volcanic origin, mostly made of fissure vents. Gran Canaria is the second most populated island of the Canary Islands after Tenerife.
The island's relatively small size means that travelling about and exploring is very accessible by car, and there is a decent network of public bus transport to various attractions.
Puerto Rico Resort area
Puerto Rico is a self contained holiday resort situated on the south-west coast of Gran Canaria. The island's proximity to the African continent ensures an ideal climate, particularly in the winter, when the temperatures remain constant at around 20-25°C. The coastal area including and around Puerto Rico is regarded as being among the most ideal holiday climates in the world, for the consistent temperatures throughout the year.
Puerto Rico has a sandy beach encompassed by two small harbours. Inside the resort you will find that the majority of shops and restaurants are situated in commercial centres. The main centre is at the heart of Puerto Rico, The Europa Shopping Centre is in the higher part, and the Pasarela centre at the back of the beach.
The nearby Amadores beach is very pleasant, and the Beach Clus is a great restaurant - good food and wine.
