Home description

It's sunbathing weather all year and this is an ideal base for enjoying the sun. 8 minutes walk from the beach, 6 minutes walk from the shopping centre, huge choice of competitive bars and restaurants. Mountain views.

Our apartment is at the bottom level of a block of 30 apartments. It was originally built as a studio but has been extended at the front and has a wall dividing off the bedroom area. The garden overlooks a quiet street. The area is usually quiet.

We are south-facing so the terrace gets sunshine all day. There is a large pool belonging to the complex which is 3 floors up (accessible by lift).

The Gran Canaria region

Gran Canaria is just off the coast of West Africa just a four-hour flight from the UK. The island is often described as a continent in miniature due to the variation in climate around the island. The north is damp and green, the mountains are cold and the south is hot and dry. Puerto Rico is in the hot, dry part of the island and it has a superb sunshine record. It is also sheltered from the afternoon winds which make other parts of the Canaries a haven for windsurfers.

We are about 10 miles by motorway from the other main resort: Maspalomas. This is where the sand dunes are.

There's plenty to do if you tire of the beach. Many of our guests come for walking rather than lazing by the pool. There are great mountain walks all over the island. In the interior of the island are traditional towns and villages.

There's a water park in Puerto Rico and two more at Maspalomas. There are other theme parks: Sioux City - a wild-west film set and Palmitos Park. All are accessibly by bus and the buses are easy to use.

How to get there

Charter flights from the UK to Gran Canaria (LPA) go mainly on Mondays, but there are also some on Thursday and Saturday. Flight time is about 4 hours. If you're in Scotland, FlyGlobespan is the way to go.

BA scheduled direct flights from GAT-LPA go 4 times per week. There are scheduled flights several times per day from Heathrow but they involve a change at Madrid and therefore take at least 6 hours.

At last, some budget airlines are going to Las Palmas - it's not always straightforward as some of the routes are winter only and others involve a change of planes and airlines. The easiest ways we know to find and book flights are:

In the apartment you should find everything you need. We provide a change of sheets/towels weekly but you also have an automatic washing machine available. The computer runs under LINUX (don't worry, it looks just like Windows!) and there's a wireless router. So you can either surf the net using our PC or you can bring your own laptop and we will provide you with the instructions for wireless connection.

The TV receives a range of channels from a private cable system including a reasonable selection of English language channels. There's a great sound system too, a built-in safe for your valubles and a well-equipped but compact kitchen. Bedside fans are provided to keep you comfortable at night.

If you've been to Puerto Rico before, you'll know that hilly is an understatement. Most of the buildings are clinging to the mountainsides. The P.PIata complex is no exception. However, it is nearer the bottom of the resort than the top, so you don't need taxis to get around. However, if you have difficulty with walking or if you find steps difficult, you should make sure that you can cope before you book. Taking the steps route from the beach to the apartment, you have 81 steps and hardly any slope. Taking the road route, you need to walk up hill for the last 150 metres. Within the complex, you only have to go up 5 steps to reach the apartment..

Conditions

We take a £50 deposit, initially to hold your booking and later as a damage deposit which we return to you when we get the keys back after your stay. The payment for your stay is required 4 weeks before you go.
