The Mallorca/Majorca region
Mallorca (or Majorca) is a Mediterranean island of stunning natural beauty. In more recent times Mallorca has reinvented itself with an emphasis on more upmarket tourism with visitors encouraged to explore the island's beautiful coastline and interior. Mallorca's north east coast has an enormous bay which is home to the popular resorts of Can Picafort and Alcudia. Nearer the island's most northerly point at Cap de Formentor is Puerto Pollensa which has long been a favourite with holidaymakers. This whole area is very popular with cyclists, walkers and birdwatchers. The east coast of Mallorca consists of more than fifty secluded coves of enormous beauty. Cala Millor or Cala Bona are ideal bases from which to discover this region. The Serra de Tramuntana is the mountain range running parallel with Mallorca's north west coast. The rugged terrain and mountain peaks present quite a contrast with the gentle east coast. It's well worth renting a car and heading out to Soller, Deia and Valldemossa as well as the lesser know villages inland. Mallorca has something for everyone. Just choose your preferred destination and the island will have you coming back year after year.
Puerto Pollensa / Pine Walk Area
Puerto Pollensa: Wonderful scenery, beautiful sandy beaches and a laid-back friendly atmosphere, this is the resort of Puerto Pollensa. The bay of Pollensa is home to a multitude of luxury yachts, as well as a mixture of colourful local fishing boats. The warm shallow waters of the bay make it especially popular for families with small children. There is a good selection of shops, bars and pavement cafes to choose from, as well as several high class fish restaurants. However, without a doubt the main feature of the resort is the dramatic Serra de Tramuntana mountain range that surrounds and shelters the town. For the more active, there are numerous walks into these hills from where the views back over the bay are stunning. Tourists have been coming to Puerto Pollensa since the 1920s and the hotels on the sea front still retain an old fashioned air, and today the town attracts mainly British families looking for something more than the hussle and bussle of the south coast resorts.
