The Mallorca/Majorca region
Two towns in northern Majorca which have been very popular holiday destinations for many years are Puerto Pollensa and Cala San Vicente, however, another town where you could have a very interesting ( non beach) holiday is the attractive ancient Majorcan town of Pollensa.
This town, which has a population of around 9,000 sits near the northern tip of Majorca close to two mountain ranges– Sierra Del Norte and the Sierra De Tramuntana and is only a one hour drive north from Palma.
The Puerto Pollensa area
Pollensa really consists of two places. There is Puerto Pollensa with its port and small, tranquil beaches that loop around the natural bay, and there is inland Pollensa, a charming, honey-coloured town rich in history, and a popular base for cyclists and independent travellers.
If you want to zip in between the two with ease, like most places on the island, a car is necessary and it’s an approach I recommend. Atmospherically, the two towns are worlds apart. The port is a classy choice, with handsome old modernista mansions that wrap around the shore - it's popular with families and more mature couples. Pollensa is a quiet town, sleepy by day, that bursts into life at night when people gather on the plazas – there are five dotted around the Plaza Major – to eat and drink.

Sunny penthouse in the north coast of mallorca. Very well connected with Europe. . located a few meters from the beaches of Puerto de Pollensa. Just one hour by car from the airport and the port of Palma. Public transport from the airport or car rental (recommended). Bus station 100 meters. Taxi station 400meters.

We have just returned from a two week stay in this apartment and have had a great holiday. The apartment has plenty of room for a small family with pleasant terraces with views to the mountains. It's on the fourth floor of a modern block, but there's a lift. A cleaner comes twice a week, the aircon is effective (essential as it was in the high thirties most of our stay) and the owner works nearby if there's any problems. We had been slightly concerned about street noise, but the top floor is set back from the street so it was very quiet. It's convenient for town being just a few minutes from the sea, pine walk etc. and there is good supermarket just across the street with a bakery. The only suggestion for improvement might be a few more kitchen things (e.g. oven dishes) as we tend to cook more than we eat out. Otherwise a good place to stay which we would consider booking again. |
