The Fuerteventura region
The oldest and second largest Canary Island after Tenerife. Climate remains between 16 and 27C all year. Clear blue Atlantic waters make it an island paradise for sun,beach and water enthusiasts. Dolphins whales marlin and turtles are sighted regularly. Ideal for all year round surfing,sailing and fishing.
Has the longest beaches in the archipelago. Visit Correlejo in the north with some of the best surfing beaches in the world. Jandia in the south with kms of golden sand. The western side is wild and naturally beautiful with virtually unused beaches. The interior of the island has large plains, volcanic mountains with pretty villages nestling within where you can sample typical Canarian dishes in the bodegas and tapas bars.
Puerto Del Rosario area
Puerto del Rosario (port of the Rosary) has been the Capital since 1957. Sample typical urban Spanish life by wandering along the harbour. See the cruise ships in the winter months. You can join in the many Fiestas held in the streets of the Capital throughout the year. Easy access to buses ( they actually run on time!) Take a Ferry to visit other Islands the closest being Lanzarote which is only 25 mins from Correlejo, so a day trip is possible.
Visit the exquisite little churches and museums. Pass time away in the many pavement tapas bars, inexpensive restaurants, shops and the new Rotundas shopping centre which are all within walking distance. Puerto del Rosario is not for those of you who want British bars, food and everything translated into English. It's a place for the more adventurous who would like to sample typical Canarian way of life, practice their Spanish and visit this spectacular island. Another bonus, Puerto is only ten minutes from the airport and there are no flights at night.
