The Canary Islands region
PARADISE IS NEARER THAN YOU THINK
Lanzarote is a unique island of extreme and unusual beauty.
Amazing nature, dramatic landscapes, long sandy shores, a deeply rooted local culture and gastronomy, and above all a genuine respect for nature and its environment, all make Lanzarote an ideal destination to enjoy, and return to. It will keep surprising you!.
The island of Lanzarote is the 4th largest in the Canary Islands and is just under 80 miles off the coast of Africa. It's only 12 miles wide and 37 miles long, so you can easily reach either end of the island in a matter of hours by car. Lanzarote is the most easterly of the Canaries and is just over 1k, from Gaciosa and 11km North East of Fuerteventura.
Its topography is a contrasting mix of rocky, dramatic landscapes and beautiful beaches. Being a volcanic island, many of the island's attractions are based around or focus on the volcanoes in the region. The island also boasts the world's largest volcanic tunnel which in times past used to offer shelter and refuge for the islanders from marauding pirates!
It's worth noting that despite this being a volcanic island, the beaches have beautiful white sand – something that tourists often don't expect. A word of warning though, the sand can become extremely hot in the intense Lanzarotean summer sun, so be careful and wear the appropriate footwear.
Speaking of sunshine, this is probably one of the main reasons that the island has proven to be so popular over the year. Lanzarote enjoys an all round dry climate with temperatures from January to August rarely going below 20°C. It's pretty warm and sunny outside of these months too, which makes the island an ideal winter sun destination, although in the winter months it can be a little chillier at night, so make sure to take a jumper or cardigan if you are going then.
Notwithstanding the occasionally barren landscape, Lanzarote is a beautiful island and a great tourist destination. It's clean and pretty, there's lots to do and see and the folk on the island are helpful and friendly.
ENCHANTING BEACHES TO GET LOST IN
The island is home to spectacular crystal clear waters and superb stretches of white, golden and black sand. Papagayo, Puerto del Carmen and Matagorda on the southern side of the island boast some of the best beaches and coves. In the north, you´ll love the impressive beach of Famara and the ones in Costa Teguise, Arrieta, Caleton Blanco, Orzola and the island of La Graciosa.
PRACTISE YOUR FAVOURITE SPORT IN A UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT
The mild, spring-like weather all year round and the magic natural landscapes of Lanzarote attract sport enthusiasts from all over the world to practise their favourite sports. Both amateurs and professionals visit the island to surf, kitesurf, windsurf, triathlon, golf, diving, sailing, fishing, cycling, mountain bike, trekking, paragliding, hiking…
TASTE LANZAROTE AND SURPRISE YOUR PALATE
From traditional cuisine to the most innovative gastronomic creations, in Lanzarote you can enjoy excellent cuisine. Outstanding fish and shellfish, vegetables, goat meat, black canary pork, and excellent wines with “Denomination of Origin Lanzarote”, produced in the magical vineyard landscapes of La Geria.
HAPPINESS, COLOUR AND FUN
There are many traditional festivals in Lanzarote: the famous Carnival, the most authentic pilgrimages or popular markets such as the one in Teguise held every Sunday morning. When the sun hides away, music and fun continue in different parts of the island, like the capital and major tourist areas.
Puerto del Carmen
PUERTO DEL CARMEN
The principle tourist and business centre of Lanzarote is now a place of amazing contrasts from the charm of tacky chic to the sophisticated , from the chill out to the adrenalin …………..whoever you are, whoever you are with, this vibrant town will provide what you all want for the perfect holiday .
Nestling on the southern part of Lanzarote along the eastern coast you will numerous activities and a nightlife for every taste . With its six kilometers of crystal beaches running into the Atlantic Ocean, more tourist come to this part of the island than any other part of Lanzarote.
The new town of Puerto Del Carmen offers a fantastic variety of both Daytime and Night-time activities to suit people of all ages and nationalities and for those who love early mornings and daytime activities or just basking in the sun this is the most perfect resort. Its main beach Playa Grande is the largest on the island and faces a long strip which hosts a huge variety of restaurants, shops and bars.
Besides the deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, scuba diving, snorkeling and sunbathing you will be doing in Puerto del Carmen, you will be faced with a vibrant nightlife. This part of the island has more bars, pubs, discos and recreational centers, than any other part of the island. After spending a day at the beach or cruising the waters on a tour boat, you can go back to your apartment and get suited up for an evening of dancing, live music and drinking.
For those of us that prefer the nightlife Puerto del Carmen is definitely the resort for you. With its multitude of restaurants, pubs and disco bars there is something for everybody. For the younger and more energetic there is the main centre of nightlife called Centro Atlantico where one will find many bars, discos and live music venues playing the latest sounds. Or You can sit in the crowd and listen to live music while sipping on a cocktail, dance the night away at a local disco or choose a relaxing pub to play bar games or billiards.
The old town of Puerto Del Carmen is a picturesque fishing port containing a wide variety of fabulous restaurants. Here you will have not trouble finding a seafood restaurant down by the harbor. If seafood is not what you wish that day, the village has almost every type of cuisine you are looking for, from international cuisines, like Chinese, Italian and French cuisine, to local delicacies.
. This is definitely a must for those who love fine foods in wonderful surroundings
