Home description
Puerto Mogan is a luxury resort, that has sprung up from an Old Spanish fishing village. The town is known as 'Little Venice' because of its waterways, bridges and winding streets, filled with sweet smelling bougainvillaea. The harbour area is filled with yachts from all over Europe and skirted by small boutiques, bars and fine fish restaurants. Mogan also has a golden sandy beach, which is protected by a natural breakwater out to sea - which keeps the water as still as a millpond perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Shopping opportunities in Puerto Mogan are also in abundance. Designer shops such as Lacoste stand alongside shoe, bag and leather shops from Madrid. You won't be short of things to do, day or night in Mogan. Puerto Mogan is renowned for it's abundance of fine restaurants, full of local character.
Los Mangueros is 10 minute walk down a picturesque promenade, lined with water fountains and palm trees, from the beach or the harbour in Mogan. It is an intimate complex of around 25 apartments, set around a Lapis blue swimming pool. Guests can lounge around the pool on either the grassed or terraced sunbathing area's.
The apartment itself is a modern 1 bed apartment. Built in 2004, it has a spacious lounge with TV, stereo and comfortable sofa, which can be converted to a full sized bed. Fully fitted kitchen. The Gran Canaria region
Gran Canaria is renowned for its remarkable climate. The trade winds and clouds that blow across the north of the island stack up in the central mountains, rarely venturing south. Even during the European winter season, the sun still shines in the Canaries, making them an ideal destination for people escaping winter, but not wishing to travel more than four hours.
In the Canary Island group, Gran Canaria really is the pick of the bunch. It has none of the ferocious winds and temperamental clouds associated with Lanzorote, and it hasn't been ravaged by development like Tenerife. It also has more leisure activities to offer than Fuerteventura.
Puerto de Mogan area
Puerto Mogan is a picturesque, sun-soaked haven on the south west coast of Gran Canaria. It was once a modest fishing harbour, which has retained all of its charm and tradition, whilst offering a chic holiday resort and marina.
Low rise hand painted villas bedecked with hibiscus and bougainvillea form a gentle backdrop to the luxury yachts in the small port. These buildings are intersected by canals, traversed by ornate arched bridges, it is no surprise therefore, that the town has become known as 'Little Venice'.
The white sandy beach in Puerto Mogan curves around the horseshoe shaped bay. Its small, but so is the town, so the beach is never crowded, and offers the visitor a peaceful day of sunbathing. Hire a sun-lounger or just lay a towel on the golden sand.
The town also offers many shopping options. Peruse the local boutiques nestled amongst the squares and alleyways, or international clothing stores like Lacoste. You could opt for the Spanish leather goods shops, with quality bags and shoes straight from Madrid. Or for more authentic Canarian goods, visit the Friday morning Market, whose lace, jewellery and leather goods tempt tourists from all over the island. A new, upmarket shopping centre is also due to open in 2006. Bringing more quality shops to the town.
In the evening the quayside comes alive, with bars and restaurants offering a varied choice of dining. Fresh seafood and tapas must be sampled; the sheer choice of fine menu's being the only problem. Puerto Mogan really is a food lover’s paradise.
Puerto Mogan sets a more leisurely pace in the evening, but you will have no problem getting a drink in select bars late into the night. There are a number of bars both beach front and harbour front, which cater for most tastes and stay open long enough for a night-cap.
Puerto Mogan is a so-far hidden gem of a town. Visitors return year after year to enjoy a relaxing break, away from hustle and bustle, nightclubs and noise. But beware, once visited, it's a hard act to follow.
