With an average 320 days of sunshine, the villa is ideal for a superb, relaxing holiday for couples and families in all seasons + for Long Lets for Senior Citizens seeking warmth and low cost of living.

Our home comprises a spacious lounge/dining room, 3 bedrooms (2 doubles and a twin), fully fitted kitchen and bathroom with shower. All bedrooms have built-in wardrobes, (one with locked linen store contained within) and there are ceiling fans in all of them, as well as in the lounge. There is also a mobile air conditioning/heater unit, plus a freestanding remote contolled fan and a gas heater.

The lounge/dining area is light and spacious with large mirrored, wall unit with glass shelving and lighting housing a flat screen T.V. a Smart TV Box, plus Wi-Fi, a DVD/CD player, small choice of books and a few games. We have 2 comfortable sofas, a glass and wood coffee table, and circular glass dining table with chairs by the window overlooking the pool and with the sea and mountains in view.

All the bedrooms are modern, yet homely with table lamps or wall lights, pictures, decorative flowers, have ceiling fans and pine furniture

Good size kitchen and fully fitted with a black glass gas hob, an electric oven and an extractor fan, a large fridge/freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave, kettle and stainless steel toaster. There are lovely sea views from the window that also overlooks the terraces and pool at the front.

The bathroom is fully tiled with a bath, a toilet and basin in a marble vanity unit with drawers plus cupboads. There is also a large mirror with built in lighting, plus an adjustable 5 'mode' shower with screen, shelving, towel rail and a tall cabinet with shelves and drawers for further storage.

At the rear of the property there is a large cupboard where the washing machine is situated below the path level. Iron and ironing board are available and there are also 2 portable airers/washing lines which dry clothing in minutes (!) and can be used either on the roof solarium or downstairs on one of the terraces.

Built around 12 years ago, Villa Mazarron faces south and has a large sun terrace at the front of the property (ground level), in addition to a huge 36 'x 19' (max.) roof solarium with balustrading,(accessed via lockable gated steps at the rear, and situated above the pool), perfect for both sunbathing and al fresco dining and enjoying outstanding sea views of the Bay of Mazarron in front and the hills overlooking La Azohia to one side, making the villa ideally suitable for Spring through to Winter lets. There is a private pool (approx 5m x 3m) with steps down and new solar cover to heat the water, plus an outdoor shower for washing off oils, suntan lotion etc. before swimming. There is a wrought iron decorative table and chairs, in addition to 2 large outside dining tables plus plenty of chairs and loungers, with the outside area being enhanced by colourful decorative plates, pots and planters all in a pretty Spanish style. Gentle solar lighting in addition to 2 electric lamps makes for perfect relaxing evenings whilst watching the boats go by in the distance. We also have a barbecue available for guests' use.

The Murcia region

Due to the Costa Calida's ('Warm Coast') microclimate and average 320 days of sunshine, the villa is ideal for a superb, relaxing holiday for couples and families in all seasons. Our villa is a golfer's haven too as there are many excellent golf courses within easy reach, including Alto Real (45 minutes drive), La Manga (approx. 1 hour), Fuente Alamo (which is 18 holes and at 6.5 kms long, is recognized as one of the best and more luxurious in the South East of Spain and just 25 minutes away approx.). However the nearest one is only about 15 minutes away by car.

The average year round temperature is 20º and November and Christmas can be celebrated on the beach! In the hardest winter it's difficult to find frost, and snow only occasionally tops the higher mountains like Sierrra Espuña where there is a great variety of flora and fauna, including eagles, wild boar many other smaller animals with many trees, bushes, herbs and wild flowers.

In this national park it is possible to enjoy, hiking, fishing, bird watching, cycling, hang gliding, rock climbing or just sit outside one of the bars that are dotted about and enjoy the clean air and wonderful views.

Protected areas provide a wealth of animal life. For the hiker, there are fifteen categorized walks of varying lengths but there are numerous other routes you can take to discover wildlife, herbs and plants and admire spectacular views.

The region of Murcia is a major producer of fruits, vegetables, and flowers for Spain and the rest of Europe. It is mainly a warm region which has made it very suitable for agriculture.

The old mining areas also provide interesting excursions with many of the original works and buildings still standing.

Puerto de Mazarron

Within a 2 minute walk of the villa down an incline, are a very good Spanish restaurant, plus a lovely English pub/restaurant which enjoys super seaviews and offers themed nights, good value English food including roasts and breakfasts, weekend entertainment including live music, Sky TV, darts, pool table and free Wi-Fi Internet access, along with a Pharmacy, public telephone, a cafe with quiz and karaoke nights plus a small quiet, friendly cafe/bar and a larger bar (all information is current)

Diving, snorkelling, horse riding, bowling, tennis, boules, karting and windsurfing are among the many activities one can participate in locally when not "chilling out"!

There is even an enclosed 'Winter Pool' nearby that can be used out of season for a nominal charge

Mazarron itself is bathed in history and with numerous beautiful beaches and hidden coves, varied countryside, the friendly people and healthy diet make Mazarrón and the Costa Cálida paradise for holidays.

The weather in summer in Mazarron is typically very hot with little to no rainfall and temperatures up to 38c, but fortunately on most days there is a cooling sea breeze. Average winter temperatures are around 20c and the climate has been described by the World Health Organisation as one of being the best in the world, especially good for sufferers of arthritis.

The sea is usually around 5º warmer due to the unique 'micro climate' that Mazarrón enjoys. Windsurfing, sailing, diving, swimming, whatever your pleasure, Mazarron's coast provides it all.

The Port of Mazarron (a year round fishing port) with its new marina, shops, restaurants, cafes and bars is around a 15 minute walk, depending on pace!. Many of the local restaurants offer freshly caught fish and in one in particular, you can choose your own, watch it being cooked and then it's served up for you to enjoy! Less than 5 minutes' drive, is the inland town of Mazarron with its ornate Town Hall, markets, shops and Medical centre. The historic city of Cartagena, about 25 minute's drive away, with its naval port, military museum, huge new out-of-town shopping and eating mall Parque Mediterraneo (with masses of free parking and designer shops), and hypermarkets Eroski (complete with McDonald's!) and Carrefour, is full of history and architecture with lovely waterfront promenades, and excellent shopping facilities to suit all tastes and budgets. It has a large number of restaurants, many of which are traditional Spanish ones, but it also caters for a variety of diners . Further afield at Vera (approx. an hour and a quarter away) is the 'Parc Aquatico' (water park) for a great, fun-filled day out.

Going slightly further afield and inland, you can find places that have remained unchanged for years and are unspoilt by tourism. There are thermal baths at Mula and Roman remains in Lorca. There are also weekly markets in Puerto de Mazarron (Sundays), Mazarron Town (Saturdays) and Totana (Wednesdays). Buses, coaches and trains are also available to link up with towns and cities. There are numerous small villages, which one can find and explore, but Totana and Lorca are especially interesting, steeped in history (dating back to the Romans), local cuisines, shops and markets.

We have also developed our own comprehensive information/reference book, with all the details our guests will need in order to have a good holiday and covering, 'Useful Telephone Numbers' to 'Places to Visit', (which we would politely ask, stays in the villa for other guests' use.)

"Washing machine did not work from day one"

This was the second week of our holiday and we had washing. We put our clothes in the machine and it did not work we tried it several times but to no avail. We contacted Caroline who told us that the … More

We received a text from these guests early on a Sunday morning at 10:13 (Spanish time) – the day after their arrival at the villa. We were told that they had brought all their dirty washing with them from the previous week (6 adults), which we were surprised at, as that's never happened before. In response to hearing they couldn't get the washing machine to work, I went through all the instructions with them, but sadly to no avail and we'd just had an engineer out to it a few days earlier due to there being a problem, but he'd given it the 'all clear'. Despite having commitments ourselves for the next couple of hours, the guests were offered several options including IF the machine was found to be working but somebody had been called out, that the call out charge would clearly need to be met by them (If not, then obviously by us) I was looking into sorting it out when I received 10 minutes later at 10:23, (Spanish time), an email telling us they had a relative living nearby who was going to do it for them.

We received a further email later on that day saying “Hi Caroline not to worry my father in law has sorted out our washing so will be ok until we go home now. Seems my brother in law has found some odd bits of cutlery as well but eating out most of the time to be honest so no longer a problem” (There had been a complaint about there not being enough cutlery, to which I had replied that I had no idea why we suddenly didn't have enough cutlery and until told otherwise, could not predict this problem. We then said we would organise for that to be bought, but that if they wanted to save a call out charge (NOT charged by us but the person taking the time to go and buy it), they could buy some themselves and we would reimburse them for it. There had also been a complaint about the sheets “smelling funny”, but despite me offering to get Owners Away, our professional servicing company, to come and inspect them - in fact the owner of OA went and 'sniffed' (!) all her linen back from the laundry to check it but could find no problem - and have them changed if necessary, this offer was not taken up by the guests at any time.

As I told these guests, we take all notifications of things not working or unhappy guests extremely seriously and I have never been described as “unhelpful”... But when told “NOT to worry” as they had "sorted out the washing themselves and they would be okay until their return home", there was nothing further we could do for them.
The next guests in reported no problems with the machine, but it was clearly an intermittent fault as some 4 and a half weeks later, in response to it not working, the machine was replaced within 24 hours of being told about it by the current guests.

To sum up, on their return, we said we hoped they'd had a nice holiday and the answer on the 28th July, just before receiving their Security Deposit back, was “We had a great time thanks!” It seems 12 days later, they'd changed their minds! And surprisingly they felt a "great time" only warranted a 2* Review!

Thank you very much for taking the time to review Villa Mazarron for us - it is appreciated. We are so glad that, (in your words, not ours!), you had a great holiday. I will check with Liz regarding the current condition of the sun-loungers, as we purchased replacements for the cracked ones, following our usual inspection of all equipment at the beginning of the season in April (we also do this in October in preparation for the winter long lets) I do know that the sun quickly takes its toll on them though, cracking them swiftly! We feel we supply good quality bed linen by Ikea, Laura Ashley and Yorkshire Linen, but have just purchased some more, although its not the quality we feel that is a problem, but the condition of them that may have necessitated closer inspection (not being resident, this is one of our biggest challenges, having to rely on people having the time to notice things like this and report it back to us for actioning) Unfortunately, the water is SO hard in Spain, it seems they need replacing quicker and quicker these days, but we will certainly ensure this is kept an eye on even more frequently. As you have rightly mentioned, we keep the cost reasonable and wouldn't want to have to increase our prices by supplying, for example, top quality Egyptian Cotton :-)
We appreciate what you say about the 'hill' - necessary I'm afraid though, in order to get those stunning views which are the most memorable things for our guests, as previous reviews seem to bear out. We do however, ensure we are totally honest and upfront about everything, including this, and our websites state that if anybody has mobility concerns or issues, to please contact us for further information. Similarly I do try to check their 'abilities' if we're told they are not hiring a vehicle. Our sole aim as caring and professional owners, is to ensure we provide good value for money, that people enjoy their much needed holiday which they've worked hard for and that they have a lovely stay :-) Thank you again!

"DO NOT STAY HERE"

i informed the owners that i suffer from arthritis and was told car not necessary, was told a small incline, it was a mountain, a local shop that does not exist and has not been there for at least 6 … More

We are slightly bemused to have received notification of a review from a guest that booked with us some 18 months ago and stayed 11 MONTHS ago, especially given that everything was resolved satisfactorily at the time. Furthermore, the guest that stayed directly after this lady gave a glowing Review, in keeping with the other 13.
Our response then is as follows:

• In response to the guest's initial enquiry mentioning being an Arthritis sufferer, this is part of the 884 word email that was sent “No worries and we'd be delighted to take your booking. One very important thing I would ask is if you are planning on renting a car whilst over there? You mention you and your husband have arthritis (this part of Spain is the warmest so, being a fellow sufferer myself, the climate is ideal)
The reason I ask about the car is because in order to benefit from those amazing views, we are halfway up an incline (it is a very gradual one however and just to further add that we had an 84 year old gentleman stay with us for 4 'winter' months and he went daily to get his newspaper with no problems whatsoever. Until a few months ago I was carrying almost 18 stone and although I found it better not to chat too much on the way back to the villa(!), I certainly never suffered unduly. But we are totally upfront with people who are spending their valuable money on a holiday that we want to ensure they fully enjoy. (Please do read our 5 x 5* Reviews as they give a 'flavour' from the holidaymaker's perspective and none have found our location to be a problem, just the opposite in fact!)” And further on in my email this: “Quite a few of our guests if not hiring a car, walk in, get their shopping (there's even a Lidl!), then get a taxi back for a few Euros. A CAR is NOT ESSENTIAL but WE DO ADVISE ONE ...
If you didn't want to drive from the airport but maybe have one even for a couple of days, once you book I can give you details of an English family run company that offer discounted airport transfers if booking car hire with them (and they drop off/collect the hire vehicle) Just another option...”

So in fact we gave 3 different options, but as always with our guests, the responsibility for making the decision has to lie with them to make. If mobility problems were experienced at the time, it would have been very simple to make alternative arrangements and in addition, there was at the time, a mobility hire shop open in the Port.

Furthermore, my email (copy above) did not say the incline was a “small one”, but a “gradual one”, which it is and reference is made transparently to it in our website.

• Local shop – again on the website we state that all information is current at the time, we ourselves can only give the information we know to be true and at our last trip over there a few months before the guest's visit, it was still in business. Unfortunately businesses in Spain come and go very quickly (also mentioned by us)

• As our prices are the same currently as in 2005, we still believe we offer very good value for money for the facilities and location - its popularity has proven that.

• We are even more surprised (and very disappointed) to learn of “disgust” at the way they feel they were treated, as in fact the whole business of the metal lever that came off in the guest's hand close to her arrival, was handled completely professionally and efficiently, by both us and our highly regarded company who is on hand to sort things out. Our shower and fittings had been replaced a couple of years earlier, a fact the plumber had not been aware of when we arranged for him to come out. But however, it was reported to me that the shower WAS fully usable until he was able to go there (2 days after the initial notification to us that the lever had broken off in the lady's hand,) and full instructions were given on how to use it. I rang and also emailed the guest to check she was happy to do this and with that arrangement, but had no response back. After the departure of the guests, we naturally made enquiries of our previous guest and also the head cleaner (who had cleaned immediately prior to their arrival), and both confirmed there had been no problems at all with the unit and fitting. The factual findings were reported back to the guest (as we always do) and the Security Deposit returned as per our Terms and Conditions, with no problems or delay whatsoever. This was the last time we had contact with this guest until now, 11 months later.

• Cracks - we have always followed expert opinion and recommendations where these have been concerned. There has been past movement (common in Spain), but we have carried out regular interior repairs - consequently the property is always newly decorated. We had extensive correction work done, including taking out the tree probably responsible, killing its roots permanently and having brick paving laid. The exterior we were advised to silicone as necessary and monitor, then when the movement had ceased, to have it all repaired, which it has now been booked in for next month. However, these cosmetic imperfections have, in NO way, affected any of our guests' enjoyment of any of the facilities or the location at all.

In conclusion, this is an incorrect, unfounded and negative Review we're sad to read of and one which we don't understand at all the reason for waiting 11 months to post.
We always advise people in our T&Cs that if there are problems they must advise us at the time – the snapped lever, which, by her own admission, the guest did herself when trying to get the hot water running, was the only thing we were contacted about at the time and as far as we were concerned was resolved satisfactorily. At the time she booked, we had 5 x 5* reviews, we now have 14 and a record 3 'returning guests' this year – as ever, people can make up their own minds whether to take one very outdated and unfair Review into account when looking to book.

"Great weather to swim in the lovely pool and utilise the terraces but house condition tired."

The villa 's facilities were as described but their condition was tired and not what was expected. The most concerning were the large cracks in the walls (inside and out) and there was a single bed that kept collapsing (apparently happened just the week before so no time to replace) plus other worn out items and smaller issues. We had a great time in the villa with lovely late summer weather to utilise the pool and terraces. The size and facilities were perfect for our family of five. The immediate area was not to our taste but with a great beach not too far away and a lovely seaside promenade, so a short drive resolved this. Booking the holiday was simple although after this there were some communication issues that tarnished the run up to the holiday which was a shame - I travel every week with my job and this was the third week of our multiple location holiday so I have something to compare to.

In response to this surprising Review, we would like to say that, ultimately we will be leaving it to prospective guests to decide for themselves whether they will be taking 12 delighted guests' 5* Reviews into account when considering booking, as opposed to this one. However, there are specific things that have been stated that do need addressing. We are bemused to have our property described as “tired” as not only did it undergo a mini makeover (around 6 months ago) by our professional servicing company whose advice we followed in full, but also up to this year we have had some movement over the years (not that unusual in Spanish built properties), which means that our place has been decorated at least yearly, so it is always bright and fresh as our photographs show and other guests have commented. The mainly superficial cracks to which reference is being made, are EXTERNAL ones only and are silicone filled, (aside from longstanding ones in a wardrobe which again, affect nobody and the advice has been to leave them alone!) They are regularly inspected (we were out there just a week after this guest),purely cosmetic and have rightly never given any cause for concern to our many guests staying. (On the advice of our builder, they will be more permanently dealt with, once we are 100% sure the 'settlement' has ceased fully - which it's now looking it has) The single bed did not collapse but rather, in the guest's own words in an email sent whilst there, “son has been using this bed and it has been ok to use but the slats have needed repositioning”. (No other bed-related complaints after this one either) It is a shame there were perceived communication problems, because we went out of our way to inform and explain things as we do with all our guests (other Reviews bear this out), but we cannot insist guests read the paperwork they are sent where the information they require is already in it! In fact, WE had a problem receiving things at times from this guest, which meant spending a lot more time than usual helping them (I have just counted 33 emails between us, unprecedented!) This guest was offered a 'prompt booking' discount of over 10% when first booking, yet there was a delay of 2 days before paying a deposit. We and our guests (many of whom are 'returning' ones), still maintain that for what we offer and our location, the price is excellent value and one has to bear in mind that ours is not a brand new villa and this is reflected in the price. To sum up, these are the actual words of this guest from his email sent to us 4 days into their stay... “Hello. Overall the accommodation has been great”!
