Home description
Las Riquelas is a 200 years old traditional Canary Islands house. The exterior shows a mixture of two typical Canary Islands architectural styles. In one side, the oldest part of the house is lined with stone, and the other side is painted in yellow, showing the stone in the corners for aesthetic reasons.
Casa Las Riquelas gives a peaceful and comfortable feeling which helps the guests to leave aside any accumulated tiredness and stress. The bright living room with fireplace and overlooking the sea has satellite television and a music system.
The house is located in the municipality of El Sausal; once they have crossed its doors, guest enter a marvellous space: a very colourful magnificent garden from where guests can gaze at the deep blue ocean and enjoy the wide view of the horizon, and at the top of the property, the very romantic stone house...
At around 500 m. from the sea, in Ravelo area, guests can see, right in top of the Barranco Cabrera, the borderline between El Sauzal and La Matanza, a very green agricultural region whose vineyards are well known. Nearby, guests can find some traditional winemaker's cellars.

The Tenerife region
Location and ExtensionTenerife, the largest of the seven islands that make up the Canary Island archipelago, lies between the 28th and the 29th parallel north and 16 and 17 degrees west. Slightly to the north of the Tropic of Cancer, situated in the centre of the chain, between Gran Canaria, La Gomera and La Palma. The island is just over 300 km from the African coast, and about 1,300 km from the Spanish Mainland.
It has an area of 2,034 km 2 and a strangely triangular shape, with the gigantic Pico del Teide rising up in the centre to 3,718 metres, making it the highest point in all of Spain.
Puerto de la Cruz / El Sauzal area
El Sauzal is a picturesque settlement, carefully preserved, where beautiful examples of traditional Canary architecture can be seen. It is one of the municipalities of smallest surface area, and in spite of that, it has one of the highest population densities. Agriculture is its main activity and occupies most of the work force of this municipality, the grape fields occupy the largest extension followed by potatoes, cereals, fruits, etc. Bananas, vegetables, citric fruits and flowers are also cultivated.
As an interesting fact, Sister María de Jesús, servant of God, was born in this town. The bier that conserves her immaculate body can be visited every year on the 15 th of February at the Convent of Santa Catalina de Siena in La Laguna.
The best wines of the island can be savoured at the House of Wine (La Casa del Vino) The House of Honey (Casa de la Miel) is another one of its principal attractions. “This town produces the grapes and others give it their signature .”
How to get there
HOW TO GET THERE?
Departing from the Tenerife Northern Airport of Los Rodeos in the direction of Puerto de la Cruz, right after passing Tacoronte we take the turnoff Nº 21 of El Sauzal. Passing under the motorway bridge we come to a roundabout where we take a right turn towards Ravelo.
Continuing up the climbing road we reach a stop sign, make a right turn, taking as reference a small chapel on our right side.
Continuing along this road we pass the restaurant Picos del Teide, and follow the road after 600 meters we could find a entrance recognized with a mirror, too, there is almost always a poster with the celebration of the city council of El Sauzal in the entrance.
Take these small entrance till leave the house to the right hand, later the road will be narrows, we followed 200 metres, we could find with the house surrounded with a grate.
