The Lanzarote region
Lanzarote is the most popular all year-round villa holiday destination in the Canary Islands. Only 100 kilometres from the coast of Africa, Lanzarote has a year-round warm climate and a wonderful selection of extraordinary private holiday villas. Less than four hours flying time from most European cities, Lanzarote offers superb beaches, facilities and lots of activities for the entire family. Lanzarote has been designated a World Biosphere Reserve for its miles of glorious beaches and its dramatic, fascinating scenery created by its volcanic past.
Throughout the island, overlooking beaches, in villages and resorts there is an excellent variety of local and international cuisine, much specialising in its wealth of local fish. The island’s small size and reasonable roads, coupled with inexpensive car hire, makes self-drive an attractive option giving visitors complete freedom to tour the island at their leisure. Two sophisticated world class marinas attract the international yachting fraternity and offer superb sea excursions, game fishing and boat charters. Geographically part of North Africa, but benefiting from the cooling effect of the surrounding Atlantic and culturally as well as politically part of Spain, Lanzarote is an established, favorite, year round villa holiday destination, with many families returning year after year and through the generations.
Puerto Calero is the first and most famous marina on Lanzarote. It was designed and built to attract the worlds most glamorous super yachts and offers an accordingly sophisticated atmosphere. Many exclusive regattas are hosted here which even attract members of the Spanish royal family along with famous sports people. A variety of restaurants, designer shops and a supermarket are located along the waterfront with charming views of the hustle and bustle of the marina.
The Canarian Cetacean Museum offers a unique opportunity to learn about dolphin and whale sounds and habits through over two hundred exhibits. There is also a selection of excellent excursions that leave from the marina, including a submarine diving adventure, catamaran sailing, big game fishing and the possibility of chartering yachts and luxury cruisers. A modern thalasso therapy centre is available for walk-in appointments at the nearby Costa Calero Hotel. This offers special treatments under medical supervision, salt water swimming pool, Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, massage service, and algae and mud treatments, gymnasium, plus a hair and beauty salon to round off the relaxation on offer. A water taxi or bus service links the area with the main resort of Puerto del Carmen; clients with cars can drive there in less than five minutes. The resort is home to five kilometres of spectacular, golden beaches. Puerto Calero is a fifteen minute transfer from the airport.
