As the apartment is situated in the Port you can walk to the restaurants without worrying about driving.

The supermarket is just around the corner along with the taxi rank and bus services into Palma.

The Balearic Islands region

The micro-climate in Mallorca offers all year round sunshine. Winter days can be so warm that short sleeves can be worn, however winter nights can be very cool and a warm coat is recommended. Spring, autumn & winter are great for mountain hiking and cycling of which there are many good guide books available for wonderful mapped out routes also listing mountain restaurants enroute to replenish a hungry stomach.

Summer is about swimming in the warm sea, lazing in the sun, sampling the delicious Spanish cuisine and sipping a good Iberian wine whilst watching the sunset.

The capitol Palma is a twenty minute car drive away. Here you can visit a multitude of historical places of interest also many world class restaurants and excellent shopping.

Mallorca is great for all year round golf and plays host to some world class golf courses.

A visit to the beach club Grand Folis at Cala Llamp which is a five minute drive away from Port d'Andratx is worth while for a swim and some lunch overlooking the virgin bay. Also a sandy beach at Camp de Mar which is a ten minute drive away and further still Sant Elm passing through the sleepy village of S'Arraco.

The breathtaking, scenic coastal drive leaves from Andratx town heading towards Estellencs, Banyalbufer and on to Valldemosa and Deia. A route that encompasses the elements high above the sea passing through groves of ancient olive trees. If you have a car this is well worth the trip and will give you a greater understanding of why Mallorca is so beautiful.

Back nearer to Andratx town Capdella is another pretty village reach via a mountainous road. On route you pass a vineyard where you can sample local wines free on a Sunday. I believe one of the bus routes to Palma takes this route.

The castle in Andratx town holds open air concerts on some evenings during the summer - to find out when and what's on I suggest you buy a copy of the Daily Bulletin newspaper written in English which lists events going on each day throughout the island.

The colourful market is held weekly in Andratx town every Wednesday. The yacht club is called Club Vella and is situated on the other side of the port on the main road (literally overlooking the port). You can have an English breakfast here or lunch or dinner or a sunset cocktail while overlooking the beautiful Port.

There are too many good restaurants and bars to list so you'll have to explore yourselves to find ones to suit your taste and budget.

Portal Portals is another fabulous Port on the way to Palma. You turn off the motorway at Portal Nous to get there. Quite a flashy place with great bars and restaurants.

Palma is so interesting and has so much to offer including two theatres I suggest you buy a guide book.

Puerto Andratx

Beautiful Port d'Andratx is located by the sea in the southwest corner of Mallorca. Authentically Spanish with pretty traditional houses which are turned pink in the evening by the sunset. The port front is lined with tall palm trees that give a Moorish feel to the place. There are many quaint side streets full of fabulous shops, and restaurants offering different varieties of cuisine creating the cosmopolitan reputation that the area is well known for.

Port d'Andratx is a working fishing port with the boats returning home in the late afternoon everyday.

The yacht club and main marina are located on the other side of the harbour from the port.

The surrounding areas are mountainous and green. The town of Andratx is located about two kilometres away and has a wonderful castle which acts as the cultural centre, offering art exhibitions and music shows. A 13th century cathedral is located here. The weekly market is held in Andratx town every Wednesday morning and is well worth going to.

There are many secluded beaches surrounding this area with clear, warm water for swimming
