Home description
Number 17, a three bedroom detached villa, is just the place in Cyprus to stay for a break, to relax and unwind and to forget about the hectic life back at home. Based in the Pernera area which is literally a stone’s throw away from Protaras, it has the advantage of being within a tranquil complex (Sunset Villas) and yet, in less than 10 minutes, you can walk to the heart of Pernera or, indeed, the closest beaches. It benefits from its own pool to cool down from the serious sunbathing.
With some of the very best beaches in Cyprus within ten minutes’ drive of the villa you really are spoilt for choice. Having a family of my own, I genuinely feel that the house is a fun place for the family to chill out. Everyone has those days when they don’t want to go to the beach so the pool is an ideal alternative for when you just want to laze. With satellite TV also, there is a host of international channels (predominantly English speaking) to choose from, something for everyone!
Pool area by night situated to the rear of the villa.
Pool area to the rear of the villa. Ample space for 6 sunbeds as well as table and chairs.
Living room area with LCD TV/Satellite receiver/DVD player. Table and chairs are for use outside.
Dining area - table and chairs (x6)

The Famagusta District
With Pernera being close to Protaras, Paralimni, Cape Greco and Agia Napa, you have paradise on your doorstep. However, don't forget that Cyprus is a very large island and, if you feel like it, there are places to visit which are a little further afield. The places to visit are endless but here are a few to get you started:
Larnaca – 45 minutes by car – A good afternoon trip where you can go shopping in the centre, walk down the promenade and marina. Plenty of cafes and restaurants for everyone’s tastes.
Nicosia – 1hour away by car – the capital of Cyprus and well worth a trip to the old town within the Venetian walls, and the museum. If you remember to take your passports with you can cross to the Turkish occupied area to see the contrasts in the island. You need to walk down Ledra Street.
Lefkara Village – 45 minutes - A charming Cypriot village that has become famous along with the neighbouring village of Kato Drys for the beautiful lace that is embroidered by hand. It’s worth the trip and you will be received with a warm welcome. You need to head for Larnaca in the first instance. No need to go into Larnaca as such but as you get close follow the signs for Limassol as Lefkara is just off the Larnaca/Limassol highway. It’s clearly signed as to where you must come off the highway. Stop at the fishing harbour village of Zhygi for a fish meze.
Platres – 2 hours – Up in the Troodos mountains it is a quaint village where many Cypriots like to escape to. There are also some great monasteries such as Kykko and Troditissa monasteries which are perched in the mountains. Incidentally, ladies are not allowed into some monasteries with shorts.
Protaras / Pernera area
To be honest, you don’t need a car because with the Pernera centre a short walk away you have everything from restaurants and pubs to pharmacies, small supermarkets, even diving schools! This year there is even a lovely walkway that has been built along the local coastline which makes a great walk with the family or for the fitness fanatics among you, jogging. You get to see so many of the little coves in the Pernera/Protaras area with the opportunity to stop for a rest and purchase a drink at some of the watering holes along the way.
Pernera - Within walking distance you have the Pernera centre which is 10 minutes away. Literally, come out of the complex and turn right and you will be there in no time. There you will have restaurants, banks, a chemist and doctor (during peak summer season), diving schools, car/bike hire and mini supermarkets, pubs and taxi rank. Bus stops are situated just outside the complex too. There are also beaches within walking distance. The good thing about Pernera is that it is extremely close to Protaras but it is quieter so if you want more action it’s easily accessible. Agia Napa is about 15-20 minutes away by car/bus.
Protaras - Protaras is special as its beaches are simply amazing with its crystal clear waters. Here you can sunbathe, do a number of water sports or simply take a stroll down its main street which has a variety of pubs, cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops. It’s 5-10 minutes (depending on which part of Protaras you want) by car or a 20 minute walk.
One of the most famous beaches of all Cyprus is Fig Tree Bay. It really is idyllic. There are also a number of other beaches on that same stretch that are also very good. If you are feeling particularly energetic you can walk down to Pernera beach and follow the recently finished coastal walkway passing a number of beaches on the way (as well as small cafes for a well deserved break) which finishes at the main Protaras stretch of beaches. Also, on the other side of Protaras, there is a lovely beach called Konnos Bay. It’s well worth going to. It is a beautiful beach in a small cove.
Agia Napa - We have all heard of Agia Napa but we would urge you to go and visit during the day or early evening. You will find their hospitality is warm and for the kids there is a decent enough fairground (Luna Park) you may wish to take them to when you have started to run out of ideas. There are excellent facilities and, the only part that will get noisy is the town square at around 10.30pm onwards. Nissi beach and Limanaki are two very good beach areas. You are unlikely to need to go there because you have the best pretty much on your doorstep but we thought you should know anyway. There is also the Water Park just outside Agia Napa where the family can spend the day, great fun!
The Pernera/Protaras area is a 45 minute drive from the airport and well signposted. There is a highway so it really is straightforward. There are numerous car rental companies that will allow you to pick up your car from the airport. There is also a taxi rank at the airport to whisk you away to your holiday home.
