CALL FOR DISCOUNTED RENTAL MAY-JULY 2009!
Villa Ruby is located in an idyllic part of Eastern Cyprus, with the best beaches on the island. It's only two minutes walk from the lovely little village of Pernera. 150m walk from the door, via a footpath, are several glorious beaches. It's ideal for families and peace-lovers alike, being in a quiet, secluded site, with private pool and external dining area.
The villa is managed by friendly, really helpful English speakers, who are dedicated to giving you a great holiday. We've tried to think of everything to provide holiday makers with a care-free, enjoyable stay. You don't need to bring linen, and there are plenty of towels, for pool, beach and bathroom. There are DVDs and toys enough to please toddler to teenager.
Our own children adore coming to our villa and would stay all summer if they could. Before breakfast they are in the pool. Our eldest enjoys the deep end, diving off the little boat, whilst our three year old (as long as he has his armbands on) can happily play all day, with the pool toys in the shallow end, or around the pool edge, or with buckets and water in the shade around the villa, when the sun gets too hot. Or they can come into the air-conditioned villa for a siesta and a bit of a chill with any of the English channels (including Children's channels) on the satellite. So we can laze around all day, sipping cocktails, on our loungers, knowing our children are happy and safe.
And when we tire of this outrageously decadent relaxation, we pack our cool bags, buckets and spades, and beach toys and stroll to one of the many sandy, safe beaches, where we snorkel, build sandcastles, marvel at fish swimming around our legs, book a paddle boat.
Or if we are feeling in need of adventure we pile into the car and explore the culture and beauty of this part of the island. It is a holiday to re-charge the batteries, carefree, sumptuous, peaceful.
The villa is so well equipped and designed, and more luxurious than most villas, that it's a delight to relax in the evening, just enjoying the space.
If you don't want to spend the evening listening to cicadas around the pool, you can spread out on the luxurious sofas, which provide further accommodation with a pull-out, fully sprung top quality bed.
The 3 bedrooms are spacious, and the floors are made of warm, smooth wood. With floor to ceiling built-in cupboards, there's plenty of storage (in case you want to hang an array of outfits for the nightlife in Ayia Napa!)
The family bathroom and en-suite, come with very high specification contemporary sanitary ware, and the power showers (warmed largely by solar power) are fantastic .
The luxury kitchen is a dream to cook in. It has stone tiling, granite work surfaces and high quality appliances.
With air conditioning in every room, this villa offers a level of luxury usually found in much more expensive villas.
Villa Ruby is in an outstanding location, it's fantastic to stay in, and perfect for families, as well as adults looking for peace and a bit of pampering.
Chill out on the private terrace
High spec, fully equipped and Italian quality
Chic dining
Safe sandy beaches two minutes from your door

The Famagusta District
This corner of Cyprus is a hidden gem. With magnificent blue-flag beaches, fishing villages where fishermen land their catch of the day, pretty harbours, and the culture of both Greece and Turkey on your doorstep, you couldn't want for a more varied holiday experience. It's got the charm of the old, relaxed way of Greek life, and the buzz of a thoroughly modern economy.
When you first step off the plane, you'll be wowed by those cloudless, vast blue skies. South East Cyprus enjoys sunny skies almost all year round. With long dry summers and mild winters, it's a destination to dream about.
In June, the average maximum temperature is 30 degrees and during July and August, 33 degrees. With cooling summer sea breezes and thirteen hours of sunshine in summer, it's a glorious climate. If you want to escape the rain, then this is the place to be: it's virtually rainless from May to September!
So you'll want to enjoy all those long, lazy days by your private pool!
But if you want a break from profound relaxation, there is plenty of culture to be had in this corner of the island! The interior of the Famagusta district is unspoilt by tourism and rich in traditional cultures, from basket-weaving villages to distinctive windmills. It is close to the border with Northern Cyprus, so a trip to taste a bit of Turkish culture is easily accessible. Visit Kyrenia if you want to enter a time-warp and see the world of Turkey in the fifties.
Famagusta city, capital of the Famagusta District, is now a beautiful ghost-town, containing spectacular ruins, including a magnificent amphitheatre, Roman baths, a gymnasium, royal tombs and impressive mosaics. At Famagusta harbour , the deepest on the island, is a great citadel sometimes known as Othello's Tower in reference to the play by Shakespeare. It contains a splendid 14th century Gothic Hall.
Then, away from the coast, there's the atmospheric church and monastery dedicated to St. Barnabas, the founder of the apostolic Cypriot Orthodox Church in 45 AD. The church is preserved with monastery cloisters and an archaeological museum, housing 18th century icons.
Cape Greko, an area of outstanding natural beauty can be reached in 10 minutes by car, south of our villa, if you just want to get away to silence and eerily beautiful landscapes, where rare migrating birds can be seen, along with flocks of flamingos.
And if you want refreshing mountain air, then drive into the Troodos mountains. In winter, you can even have a ski before returning for a sunset stroll on the beach!
But if the high life is what you want, then you could head for Ayia Napa, just fifteen minutes drive away, with its pretty marina, fabulous beaches, many restaurants, bars and buzzing nightclubs for those wishing to dance the night away!
Protaras / Pernera area
Villa Ruby is situated in the village of Pernera, an upmarket, yet relaxed family resort, between the larger towns of Protaras, and Paralimni.
Less than a two minute walk from the villa, there are local shops, tavernas and bars. In fact, there is a restaurant and supermarket adjacent to the entrance of this gated development.
All your needs can be met locally. The hotels in the area welcome day guests to use their pools, pool bars and children's play facilities. Many provide internet access too. It's great family entertainment to hop from one hotel pool to the next, enjoying adventure playgrounds along the coast!
Eating out in Pernera is a gastronomic delight and the only problem is that you won't have time to sample every single restaurant. There's everything from Chinese to Mexican, British, Italian and traditional Cypriot meze houses, plus bars serving food and a full list of live entertainment, tv sports and karaoke.
The Penera beaches are magnificent! Reached via footpaths straight from the door, you are by the sea in two minutes: gently shelving soft sand, and crystal clear, warm lapping waves. Perfect for children!
But you will be spoilt for choice. Some beaches have rocky outcrops great for rock-pool exploring! Others are deeper, with crystal clear sea and full of fish to marvel at. Snorkellers can watch shoals of fish mass around them, and even spot octopus and rays.
All are child friendly beaches, safe and clean, with Blue Flags. Perfect for swimming, snorkelling, gazing at fish, and spotting the local wildlife. Grassy areas, sunbeds and children’s play areas are provided free of charge in many places.
Within five minutes walk you are at Pernera’s beautiful harbour. From here you can hire the boats of your dreams, and even see right across to Famagusta and the peninsula of Northern Cyprus. Several organised sea fishing trips sail from the harbour so you could even catch your own dinner! (To be cooked in your top of the range kitchen!).
And if you fancy experiencing the thrill of a ship under real sail there's a full sea going schooner and a modern catamaran that occasionally sails from Pernera too.
There is a water park just a short walk off the main street in Pernera, fifteen minutes walk from the villa. It is very well managed and safe with life guards on permanent duty. There are enough slides to excite all-comers, from toddlers to teenagers. The children have a fantastic time, and we just couldn't resist hurtling down those slides on rubber rings! Or you could keep an eye on them from your lounger!
Protaras can be reached by a five minute drive or a twenty minute stroll along the the lovely coastal path, stopping at different beaches to cool off and calling in at the numerous refreshment stops along the way. Famous for its Fig Tree bay, fantastic golden sand, crystal clear waters, and watersports galore, there are also many themed bars, restaurants and night-life.
Paralimni is ten minutes drive inland: for shopping and large supermarkets such as Carrefour, Marks & Spencer, markets, as well as banks, boutiques and great places to eat and drink.
Local activities include diving, swimming, tennis, walking, sailing, cycling, fishing, horse riding, wind-surfing, water skiing, mountain biking, paragliding and much more.
You can even organise excursions to Egypt during your stay in Pernera. So combine the pyramids with a beach holiday and a quick hike up a mountain. This part of Cyprus really has it all!

Guestbook for Villa Ruby
Thanks for a great holiday, your villa is lovely and my children didn't want to leave! Sadly, we will have to wait til next year! Sally and Joe, Preston.
What a gorgeous villa, so peaceful, relaxing, everything we needed was to hand, we've not had such a wonderful week away for a long time. George and Pam. Stoke
A very clean villa, as described, although the photos don't do it justice. Nice to be in such a quiet place, yet so close to everything, since we can't walk far these days! Will definitely recommend to friends. Alice, London.
Couldn't have asked for more! Thanks. Karen and Phil. Glasgow.
