About the home

The villa is designed specifically with families in mind. Which means it meets yours desires for a holiday somewhere beautiful and the needs of your children. We have tried to think of everything; we check the details every holiday by staying in them.

For your children there’s the gated pool and garden with a playhouse. There’s a box of toys that are different to the ones they have at home. There is a nearby sandy beach with rock pools to one side and a cove of caves waiting to be explored. They can learn to snorkel in the Med and be sure to see fish. Failing that, there is an aquarium with crocodiles and sharks or an evening show of fireworks and music just down the road. There are two seriously brilliant water parks. Some cracking Roman ruins for re-enacting scenes from Gladiator. And, for aspiring Captain Jack Sparrows, there is a full-size pirate ship that sails around the edge of the island stopping for swimming and high jinks.

For the parents there is a beautiful villa with a private pool in a flourishing garden, an outdoor dining area, a BBQ, a Wii, a DVD and book collection, iPod speakers, sharp kitchen knives and Dove crème wash in every bathroom. There is our searingly honest insider guide to the very best places to explore, to eat and to drink, especially those you won’t find in the guidebooks. Like our favourite restaurant, known locally as The Chicken Shack, which serves the best (and best value) food on the island in a gravel-floored outhouse where you write your own orders and help yourself to drinks from a giant fridge. There’s a lady on standby to come and give you a manicure or pedicure by the pool.

Meanwhile Kirstie the nanny is around the corner to provide babysitting for those evenings when you need grown up time in the shape of a cocktail on the beach. Plus Terry the driver who will pick you up from anywhere; the airport or the Greek place after a Thursday night of wild dancing (and advise where the best deals on beer are to be found).

On the practical side we have saved you the cost of an extra bag: we provide cots, high chairs and a big, plug in steriliser. There are toys and the other things you might need. Like one of those plastic steps to help little ones reach the sink and the loo. There are optional stair gates. Blackout blinds in every bedroom; no one wants to be up at dawn. As well as the little things: plastic cutlery and plates, a changing mat and books and DVDs for kids. This is all included in the price.

Our villas are managed by two local mums called Louise and Denise. They visit the day after you land to ensure you have all you need and are on hand through your holiday to answer any questions you have. They also solve problems. Not that we think you’ll have many.

The Villa has an open-plan ground floor with large modern kitchen, lounge, dining room and patio doors leading to the pool and garden. Upstairs the master bedroom has a spacious en suite and there are two twin rooms, two more bathrooms and a balcony.

The villa has with two lovely comfy sofas that seat six so you can relax in front of the large flat screen TV (with DVD player and DVD library of recent films, Wii and games, iPod speakers) and review our book library.

In the garden - which is flourishing with coloured flowers - are six chairs, a dining table and good quality loungers.

Further details outdoors:
Outside, the villa has a large gated pool area and pool-side terrace for sunbathing, complemented by an outdoor kitchen with stone built BBQ, electricity and hot and cold running water. Purple bougainvillea, scented lemon trees and local flowers flourish in the large garden area.Around the pool has a large area for sunbathing and several areas where you can dine depending on where the sun or shade is. There is a large square sun umbrella over the outside table. there is playhouse set in an area of shade.

Access from the house and garden to the private driveway is through a gate which can be closed off to keep your kids safe in the garden / pool area.

Further details

Terry will pick you up at Larnaca Airport and drive you to the villa. He can take four people and costs 45 Euros (this includes his tips on the area if you want them). He will also take you to the supermarket (10 Euros return), beach, restaurants and anywhere else you fancy for a very reasonable price.
Keys to the Villa are picked up on site and you get a welcome visit from Louise and Denise on the morning after you land. They will answer all your questions and be on hand throughout your holiday.
We provide a basic welcome pack and leave a box that encourages guests to pass on appropriate things to whoever stays next. Like bin bags, salt and pepper, a few spare beers, some olive oil, etc. if you want a more comprehensive shop done before you arrive, just let us know.
Cots, high chairs, steriliser, toys, plastic knives and forks, stair gates (optional), a plastic step to help little ones reach the loo and basin, etc... all included.

25% deposit is required to secure a booking
£250 (300 Euro) security deposit is required when you make your final payment. This is held against any damage or loss during your stay and any associated costs deducted. It will be transferred back to your account or by cheque within 21 days of your departure from the Villa.
Earliest Check-in on day of arrival is 3pm and latest departure time is 11am on day of departure.

The Famagusta region

The villa is set back a couple of minutes walk from the sea in the small, south Cyprus village of Kapparis, a very easy 40 minute drive from the airport at Larnaca (on the left hand side of the road). It is right on the coast, well away from the hard partying crowd, and close to lovely, family restaurants, good supermakets and three very good (and safe) beaches. Withing easy walking distance is a cracking Greek place, with dancing on a Thursday night, an astonishing line in crepes (strange but brilliant) and the best local food. We cannot however vouch for the bracing after dinner drinks that appear with the bill.

The Protaras / Kapparis area

We chose the villa because the areas has everything within walking distance: beaches, shops and good restaurants. We provide a completely comprehensive guidebook when you arrive with details of everywhere you may want to go and how to get there. It is informed by our own experiences and the reviews of other guests.

The season runs from Easter to Christmas - and then walkers love to come in February to see the flowers bloom across the island. We recommend that those will really little babies come April/may/June or from September on.

Fly to Larnaca Airport and then its a straightforward 40 minute drive to the Villa in Kapparis.
A taxi from the airport is about £40 or we can arrange for transport for you.
As well as the established airlines (eg British Airways, Cyprus airlines) there are now many Budget airlines that fly in to Larnaca from as little as £100 return from the UK.
There are many Hire car companies at the airport where you can hire a car from around £10-£15 a day (pre-booking is advised to secure a good rate)

I wanted to let you know that we thought Villa Sophia was absolutely gorgeous. The guest book and the cork board with comments, suggestions, ideas and cards was extremely helpful. We managed to visit most of the beaches and even got to Thomas' ("the mad African") place twice! We were amazed at all the things that were provided for us - thank you, and please thank the 'girls' you have working for you out there. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Cyprus and would love to go back again ...
