The Famagusta region
Some of the appeal of a visit to Pernera comes from its location nearby numerous beautiful tourist destinations such as Cape Greco, a protected nature park at the far eastern corner of the Island. We would recommend that visitors to Pernera should explore Cape Greco and some of the other nearby town including Kapparis Protoras and Aiya Napa.
Ayia Napa and the surrounding areas:
Ayia Napa is a vibrant town at the far eastern end on the south coast of the island of Cyprus. Famous for its sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, in recent times it has become renowned as one of the party capitals of Europe. The streets are lined with bars, restaurants and night clubs. The monastery in Ayia Napa Monastery is a key sight in the cultural centre of the town. It stands at a location where according to local tradition, a hunter in the 11th century discovered a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, probably hidden during the iconoclastic period. Some five century's later, the monastery was built around the cave-shrine. Legend has it that a young woman from a wealthy Venetian family of Ammochostos came to the monastery to escape family pressure to marry a nobleman. She expanded and renovated the monastery and is said to have planted the huge sycamore tree outside the south gate, which is believed to be over 600 years old.
The old harbour at Ayia napa is well worth a visit. You can book pleasure cruises and fishing trips, or just enjoy the food at one of the many restaurants.
Water World, the largest themed water park in Europe is situated on the outskirts of Ayia Napa and is ideal for a fun filled family day out.
Larnaca:
Larnaca is the oldest town in Cyprus and it makes for a great place to visit. There are numerous Blue Flag beaches in and around Larnaca and during the summer months water sports are readily available. Larnaca also benefits from an airport, it is approximately 30 minutes drive from Aiya Napa so it is the airport of choice for most people travelling to Aiya Napa.
Larnaca town centre has a number of archaeological sites and museums however the main focus is on the promenade with its impressive palm trees and a wide selection of restaurants with attractive terraces and magnificent sea views. A visit to Larnaca wouldn't be complete without exploring the ruins of Kition, the site that the ancient city of Larnaca is built on. Also visit the museums, the 17th century fort and explore the narrow streets of the old Turkish quarter which is now home to craft and ceramic workshops.
In Larnaca you'll find a diverse range of cuisine, something to suit all palates. Mezes are a speciality of the town, a fantastic selection of local dishes to satisfy the most demanding of appetites.
In and around Larnaca you'll also find water parks, a camel park, private motor boat hire, horse riding and hot air balloon trips.
The Protaras / Pernera area
Pernera:
The property is ideally located approximately 500 metres from the beach in the beautiful town Pernera. The coastline around this part of Cyprus is simply stunning with rugged rock formations surrounding beautiful sandy coves and bays. The crystal-clear water of the sea is truly inviting given the heat that bathes the island throughout the vast majority of the year. In Pernera, and the nearby town Protoras you will find a wide selection of restaurants, cafés and bars; they are great locations to unwind and enjoy some time out. The towns also offer incredible sandy beaches from which tourists can enjoy numerous water sports including diving trips and journeys out to sea on glass bottomed boats.
