This characterful 3-bedroom south-west facing house is on the Mother's Garden farm of Maggie Whitman, writer Martin Kirby and their children Ella and Joe Joe, known to millions from the very first No Going Back documentary on Channel 4. Martin's book No Going Back - Journey to Mother's Garden (ISBN 0-7515-3548-6) has brought visitors from around the world to Maggie and Martin's door.
The farm of vines, olives and almonds is in the beautiful Priorat mountains, south of Barcelona and just 40 minutes from Reus Airport, Tarragona and the beach, and the location will appeal greatly to food and wine enthusiasts, bird watchers, walkers or anyone seeking a taste of real Spain or simply wanting a holiday with a difference. Children are very welcome indeed - and if needed Universal Studios Porta Aventura is just 40 minutes away.

The Costa Dorada/Tarragona region

From the ancient Roman ruins of Tarragona to the natural wetland of the Ebro Delta, the Costa Dorada offers everything - beautiful, peaceful mountains, clean beaches, wildlife, outstanding wines and cuisine and even Universal Studios theme park Port Aventura. You choose and we will guide you.

Priorat area

Famous for its vineyards, olive groves, scenery and wildlife, the Priorat is perfect for nature and food and wine lovers.
There are festivals throughout the year, including a major wine fair in Falset at the beginning of May, a colour artisan fair in Marçà at the end of May plus the great summer fiestas in all the villages - and a wonderful pace of life all the time.
Marçà is just one kilometre away and has small shops, including a bakery, a chemist, two restaurants and a bar. Falset is three kilometres from the farm and has all amenities.
The train station with easy links to Tarragona and Barcelona is just one and a half kilometres from the farm.

We have contacts with many local wine cellars who offer wine tours which we would be happy to organise on your behalf.

How to get there

How easy is it to get to us?
Very easy indeed. The city of Reus has its own airport and there are cheap daily flights with Ryan Air from Stansted, Dublin, Luton and Liverpool – and Frankfurt Kahn in Germany. See www.ryanair.com for details.
You can also buy charter airline tickets from the spring to the autumn through all good travel agents or direct from airlines such as First Choice, with flights to Reus from airports all over the UK. NB Reus Airport is sometimes listed as Barcelona Reus.

Then there are daily flights to Barcelona International Airport from British airports with EasyJet and other low cost airlines as well as national carriers like British Airways. For people travelling from further afield they can connect with daily flights from Madrid International Airport to Reus or Barcelona.
Car hire is available through Ryan Air or online or through all the major hire companies. We aim, too, to offer transport at reasonable cost from the airport to the farm. Please enquire.

Downstairs there is a large open plan sitting/dining area and kitchen, plus double bedroom and shower room. The fully equipped kitchen has a gas hob and electric oven, dishwasher, fridge, and there is adjacent access to a washing machine and extra fridge freezer
Upstairs there are two large bedrooms, both leading leading onto the terrace. One is a double, the other a twin (with additional singles and cots if required).There is a bathroom and also a rear terrace leading down to the garden, pool and barbecue area with additional shower and toilet.

There are private gardens with pool, and the house is not overlooked except by wildlife.
Mother's Garden is a working farm and we offer guided walks and wine and food advice and tours in this fascinating mountainous area - and a chance to learn how to prune vines, pick grapes or harvest almonds or olives if the season is right.
From the beautiful almond and peach blossom in February and March to the olive harvest at the end of November, there are good reasons to visit us, and the holiday house has a large Swiss wood burner with vents in all the rooms to keep it cosy when the sun goes down on winter nights. Cookery, language (Spanish and Catalan!) classes available, plus massage and horse riding excursions. Amazing wildlife and scenery, yet only day-out distance from Barcelona, ancient Tarragona and the beach.

We like to take care of our visitors and are on hand to help and advise. Our farmhouse is just 50 metres away and there is access to a telephone and the internet in emergencies.
For a very reasonable fee we can provide a meal on arrival.
Sorry, no pets, or smoking inside the house.
Use of the fenced pool is at own risk and all children must be supervised at all times.

Conditions

1. BOOKINGS for July, August and Easter and half-term holidays are from Saturday to Saturday, commencing at 4pm, finishing at 10am. We will be flexible where possible. Arrival and departure days may be variable at other times of the year, minimum stay three nights. Please ask.
2. DEPOSIT: A completed and signed booking form accompanied by a 25% non-refundable deposit of the total cost of the rental must be returned within 10 days of the agreed provisional booking being made to confirm the booking. If the booking is made within 8 weeks of the start date of the rental then full payment is required immediately.
3. BALANCE: The balance of the rental cost must be received at least 8 weeks before the start date of the rental, unless we have received written confirmation of cancellation from you.
4. CANCELLATION: If you wish to cancel your booking once a deposit or full payment has been made, we will require a letter signed by the party leader. In the event of such a cancellation the following charges will apply:
Period From receipt of written cancellation to rental start date. Can Cancellation charge as % of total rental cost.
More than 8 weeks 25%
5 to 8 weeks 35%
4 to 5 weeks 70%
Less than 4 weeks 100%
5. SECURITY DEPOSIT: (breakage/damage/cleaning). This is payable at the time of the settlement of the balance (by separate cheque). The amount is £100 and will be refunded after holiday if everything proves to be clean and free of damage before your departure.
6. The rental includes electricity, gas and water, bed linen, towels and tea towels, but not swimming/beach towels.
7. The maximum number of people to reside in the property must not exceed 8 (plus baby) unless the owner has given written permission
The client is recommended to arrange a comprehensive travel insurance policy (including cancellation cover) and to have full cover for the party’s personal belongings, public liability etc. since these are not covered by the owners’ insurance.

Special offers are for 4 people sharing - there will be a supplement for further people.
