The Rethymnon Prefecture region
Crete is the largest islands in the Aegean and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean; it lies between the three continents of Africa, Asia and Europe.Crete built the first European civilization over 4000 years ago with the Minoans. It’s steeped in legends and traditions, not forgetting its golden beaches and clear blue seas. Its historical attractions, to mention a few, include the sites of Knossos and Agia Triada and not forgetting the Hall of Frescoes found in the Archaeological museum of Irakleio.Crete also boasts one of the longest gorges in Europe, the gorge of Samaria. The gorge is within the National Park of Samaria and is 16 km long and will take the average walker approximately six hours to complete. Crete and its 300 days of sunshine per year, enjoys one of the healthiest climates in Europe. The island straddles two climatic zones, the Mediterranean and North African. Spring and autumn temperatures reach the high 20s (Celsius) and in the heart of summer temperatures can reach into the high 30s (Celsius). The rainy season is predominately in the winter months and it is not uncommon for Crete to have no rain between the months of May and September.
Rethymno is Crete’s third largest town, conveniently placed in the middle of the north coast between Irakleio and Chania, making it an ideal base to explore the island, just a forty minute drive to the south coast.Rethymno boasts having the largest Venetian fortress on the island and the old town has a colourful mix of architecture which has basically remained intact since the Renaissance, with its beautifully decorated piazzas and superb fountains. An evening stroll through the old town’s narrow lanes will be an unforgettable experience. Prines lies 6.5 km W-SW from Rethymno town, making it a perfect location to see the most of this amazing island. It boasts eight churches (you will need a local guide to find all eight) the church of St. Nikolaos dates from the 13th century.Prines has two village mini-markets, a butcher and a two traditional tavernas. Atsipopoulo a mere 1.5 km away, also has two supermarkets, a bakery, two pharmacies, ATM, and many tavernas.

"Another fantastic holiday at Villa Anne!"
We had such a great time when we last visited that we decided to book again this year. The villa, gardens and pool are all so beautifully kept. Mike & Donna have thought of everything to make your stay as comfortable as possible and couldn't be more welcoming. The villa is also in a perfect location, quiet and picturesque up in the mountains, but within short walking distance to the local village and only 10 minutes drive to rethymno and the beach. We visited with our 2 young children and my in laws, we all had another fantastic holiday and are all looking forward to the next one!

"Immaculate villa and welcome"
We visited Crete at the beginning of May and were lucky with the weather, the wild flowers, almost deserted beaches and staying in Villa Anne. It is situated on the outskirts of the village and gives easy access to Rethymnon, the sea and the mountains. There is off road parking and we would recommend a hire car to explore everything Crete has to offer. The villa is well equipped and in immaculate order, as are the pool and garden. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay as relaxing and well informed as possible, from the welcome basket of local Cretan produce to the guide books provided. All in all, the perfect place to have a restful, comfortable holiday and explore this wonderful, hospitable and historic island.

"A truly relaxing holiday in a beautiful villa"
Finding a relaxing holiday with 3 small children is not easy. We have had varying degrees of success over the years with campsites, apartments, child-firendly hotels, but Villa Anne was genuinely our most enjoyable family holiday. The villa was beautifully decorated, spacious and well equipped. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the bedrooms spacious. The pool was much larger than I would have expected in a private villa, and provided hours of endless fun for the children. The local village is quiet, with two basic tavernas. There were many dining options in Rethymon, 10 minutes away by car. Well equipped beaches were within a 15 minute drive. Mike and Donna were excellent hosts, and were genuinely interested in ensuring we had all the information we needed to make our holiday a success. We would rarely return to the same destination more than once, but would definitely consider Villa Anne again.

Villa Anne is a beautiful holiday venue furnished to a very high standard and with lovely pool and patio areas outside. The owners have thought of everything, right down to a generous welcome pack to make for a great start to your hoiday. This a superb property and great location to spend a holiday in Crete. You won't be disappointed!

"Fabulous new stone Villa, well equipped with idyllic garden and pool"
This is our second stay at Villa Anne and we will be back again. Set on the outskirts of the village of Prines in the countryside just outside Rethymnon, this fabulously built and well equipped stone villa is positioned on a large plot of land surrounded by carefully manicured gardens and a large pool. It has a outdoor dining area, BBQ, sunshades and lounges. It also has a private terrace off the main bedroom. All rooms have air conditioning. If you want to cook instead of enjoying the Greek cuisine, the kitchen is just like your well equipped kitchen at home supported by supermarkets and bakeries that are not far away. It also has the beaches of northern Crete on your doorstep with a short 10-15 minute ride away. Of course the old town of Rethymnon is also only a short drive if you want to do some shopping or experience the nightlife. We brought three teenagers and a 12 year old. Experiencing a beautiful evening meal in the old town then home to bed was usually enough for three of us, whereas the teenagers safely stayed out till 5am with a taxi home on a couple of occasions. The owners Mike and Donna are an English couple with two children who have made Crete their home. They live close by and are always available to suggest places to visit whether that be caves, great walks or fantastic beaches. You need a car but what's the use of coming to the historical island of Crete if you just stay in a hotel by the beach! I can thoroughly recommend this wonderful villa and great hosts for one of the best holidays you will have in the Greek Islands.

"The villa was of a very high standard & more than what we expected, it has a real home from home feeling."
My husband & I spent 2 fabulous weeks at Villa Anne, it was our 4th visit to Crete however it was our first time staying in Villa Anne. The villa is situated in a very quiet & peaceful area of Prines & is within walking distance of the 2 Mini markets & the 2 Tavernas in the village. The villa is exquisite & of an exceptionally high standard which met all our needs. The villa was spotless & beautifully decorated with great attention to detail. The owners, Mike & Donna made us feel very welcome & provided us with a lot of information that proved to be useful for our stay. There was also a welcome pack on arrival with all fresh produces (freshly laid eggs their hens produced) wine & beer & everything you would need to get you started. The garden has 2 seating areas which was well maintained by the owner Mike & the pool & patio area was attended to regularly to a very high standard. We would highly recommend this villa & thanks to the owners Mike & Donna & girls who made our experience extra special. We would hope to visit Villa Anne with our family next year.

Mange ferie hilsner Charlotte & Jakob

"Beautiful villa with everything you need, lovely location"
Villa Anne is perfect for a family holiday. It is week situated with easy access to supermarkets, beaches and restaurants. The villa itself is in a lovely peaceful location just outside the village of Prines. There are a couple of tavernas within walking distance, and supermarkets and beaches are within 10 min drive. This is the perfect villa for families, it has plenty of space, all the amenities you need and you always feel safe and relaxed. The villa is decorated beautifully and it very clean. I cannot recommend it enough, we definitely hope to return soon.

"Perfect in every way!"
We've just returned from our stay at Villa Anne with our two boys aged 10 and 7 and can't enthuse enough about the experience! The villa is beautifully furnished and well laid out set in a lovely garden, pool and patio area. The village itself is quite small but only a short walk away to two tavernas, both selling good homemade food and offering excellent friendly service ( especially at Giannikos Taverna). We ate out each evening and only ventured into the nearby town of Rethymnon to eat on one night where we were spoilt for choice as to where to eat as there were so many tavernas and restaurants on hand. During our stay at Villa Anne we did not have a reason to contact the owners Mike and Donna ( who live next door) for anything as all our needs were catered for on arrival and there was even a welcome basket provided full of local produce which was a lovely touch. We know that if we had needed to contact them though they would have been more than happy to help. Donna came to introduce herself on our first day and was most charming. As we were only there for one week we were looking for more of a relaxing holiday but Donna had a wealth of information to share with us about the island if we needed it. This was our first visit to Crete but we have visited many Greek islands and know we will come back to Crete and would be more than happy to have Villa Anne as our 'home base' again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
