The Andalucia / Cordoba Province region

To many overseas visitors, the image of Spain is that of Andalucia: sun-drenched beaches, lively night-life, flamenco and bullfighting. To most Spaniards however, the region is known for the breathtaking beauty of cities such as Sevilla, Granada and Cordoba, its whitewashed villages, traditional fiestas, delicious cured hams and chilled manzanilla wine.
Sun soaked days and balmy evenings just made for strolling coupled with fantastic food and old world charm make this the ideal holiday destination to relax and unwind. If however you want to experience the full flavour of Spain Priego de Córdoba lies in the very centre of Andalucía, almost central from its major towns, Córdoba itself, Granada, Sevilla and Málaga. That in itself is a pretty good reason to base a holiday here. Another is that it just happens to be unbelievably beautiful, a land of rugged hills, deep valleys and amazing vistas.
There is loads to do and see in Andalucia so why not do it all from a central base here in Priego.
The Priego de Cordoba area
The delightful town of Priego de Cordoba is nestled at the foot of the Pico de la Tinosa in the heart of the Subbetica Cordobesa Mountain Range. It is considered to be the capital of Cordoban Baroque as borne out by the numerous buildings erected during this sumptuous time in the towns history.
PRIEGO DE CÓRDOBA. Quite justly known as the "Baroque Jewel" is a beautiful little town, lively and flourishing yet immersed in history and charm. Above all, it's a town which just invites you to stroll - don't miss the flower-bedecked passageways of the Barrio de la Villa which lead down to the spectacular panoramic vistas of the Balcón del Adarve

Most budget airlines such as Easyjet, Flyglobespan, Ryanair, Jet2 etc fly into Malaga International Airport along with the major tour operators like Thomas Cook, First Choice, etc. and a limited amount into Granada Airport which, if you can get a flight, is nearer to Priego. Both these airports have an abundance of car hire companies such as Helle Hollis, Hertz, etc. We have in the past used Helle Hollis and always found them to be very reasonable in price and efficient. There is also a new motorway straight through from Malaga to Priego which is great and reduces your traveling time to approx 70 - 80mins.

We looked forward to Archie and Tina´s visits each day and we´ll miss them very much too. Thank you Mary, Pete, Archie and Tina Turner - Simply the Best. |

We had a wonderful stay at Poco Paraiso. The area is beautiful and easy for day trips to many historical areas. Be sure to see the Alhambra in Granada and the Mezquita in Cordoba. Unbelievable sights. Mary and Pete are excellent hosts and proved invaluable when our luggage was delayed. We have stayed in many holiday rentals and have never experienced such service. Priego is filled with surprises - museums, churches, the castle, all worth seeing. For a great restaurant, Meson de Tellar has excellent food, atmosphere and value.

Yet again we´ve had another fantastic holiday here at Poco Paraiso. Mary and Pete were great hosts - their kindness and hospitality was much appreciated. The goodies made by Mary were absolutely delicious - we were spoilt. This time round we took advantage of the hot sun and spent most of our time relaxing at t he pool and only really ventured out one day to see the Castillo de la Mota at Alcala La Real - well worth a visit.

When we arrived at our destination Mary and Peter were there to greet us and were both very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Our accomodation was spotless and the photo's did not do it justice - it is such a beautiful place and very homely. The sitting area was comfortable and the kitchen was spotless with everything needed for a self catering holiday. The bed was so comfortable I had the best nights sleep ever. I would recommend this holiday for anyone looking for something a bit more special and more tranquil than your normal holiday. There was a lovely courtyard where the sun shone every day and it was great to relax with a wine or two. Also the use of our own private pool was an added bonus. By the end of the holiday Mary and Peter were just like old friends and made us feel very at home. We will definately be back to this beautiful part of spain as the views were also spectacular. So hope to see you again soon Mary and Peter. Thanks for making our holiday so memorable.

We had a lovely week with great weather. Places worth visiting are the Alhambra (a must) Cordoba (definately) and more local Alcala la Real (fantastic)! A big thank you to Mary and Pete who have made us very welcome. Great hosts, thanks for all the cakes drinks and produce.

We left Paradise on the Gulf Coast of Florida to find it again in this lovely part of Spain. Begin with Mary and Pete then add the warmth of these lovely folks and Mary´s baking. Her cakes and some wine after dinner, delicious. May each of you be refreshed and renewed by your stay.

Thank you for a wonderful stay at Poco Paraiso and thank you for the cakes, crumbles etc - beyond generous! We will always remember the fabulous views from the pool garden. You have a lovely place and you make perfect hosts. We enjoyed staying here as a base for discovering Cordoba, Granada and Priego itself. All the best for the future.

From the moment Mary and Pete beaconed us onto their property we knew we were in good hands. The photos so accurately show their corner of paradise. The guest quarters are new, well appointed, impeccably clean and sunshine floods in from an entire wall of windows. We arrived in late October and yet the walled patio was balmy enough to enjoy. You can close the patio for complete privacy, but then you'd miss much of the charm of this place. Many previous guests have commented on the food supplies that Pete and Mary leave for jet lagged guests. Truly, this was so helpful, giving one time to settle in before heading off to the market. And yes, they were highlighted by Mary's home baked treats featuring fruits from their own garden. Deliciosa! If there are potential guests out there whose Spanish is as tarnished as ours, then do come! Nothing sounded quite so lovely - and proved so helpful, as a bit of Scots brogue to get us through our stay. And their farewell in full Highland fig - well, that was priceless. If you're searching for a spot from which to explore the Priego, Cordoba and Granada area, treat yourself to Poco Paradisio. We so enjoyed our stay.

Without doubt we would recommend this property to our friends. El Paraiso Encontro is in a lovely, quiet setting and is a real find for 2 people. We had a warm welcome from the owners right from the beginning of our stay and this continued with delicious home baking from Mary and useful tips and advice on the local area from Pete. The welcome pack is more than generous and well thought out. El Paraiso is clean and well maintained and the pool looked inviting, although the weather wasn't quite warm enough for us to try it. We found the location of the property ideal for touring, we managed to visit Cordoba, Granada, Ronda and Baeza. More locally, the Roman Villa at Almendenilla is interesting and Priego de Cordoba is great for wandering round the old quarter.
Would think a car is essential.

We had an extremely relaxing week at the beginning of October. We used the well maintained pool every day despite the lateness of the season. The patio is very private and the house is comfortable and spacious for two. The location is good with the town a short (but uphill!) walk away. The exercise is certainly needed to work off the excellent and very reasonable food and drink in the bars and restaurants in the town. The historic town is great to wander round and there are many other attractive destinations in the area. Above all Pete and Mary and their two lovely dogs give you a great welcome. The well stocked fridge and the home baking were absolutely splendid. We found out that our hosts came from the same part of the world as we did, but I know from the comments in the visitors book that they are just as hospitable to people from all over the world

Poco Paraiso was the perfect place for a lovely chilled-out holiday. The villa was situated within walking distance of the town and was also a good central base for venturing to places such as Cordoba and Granada. It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for a very comfortable 2-week stay. Having a pool all to ourselves was fanastic and it was lovely to sit in the courtyard in the evenings after cooking on the bar-be-que. The owners of the villa (Peter & Mary) were extremely kind, generous and thoughtful. Their advice on what towns/villages to visit was great and Peter even "taxied" us up to a nice restaurant one night since we would never have found it by ourselves! The welcome pack was a lovely touch and we enjoyed cooking with the home-grown vegetables from the garden. We were very sad to leave and if youre looking for a relaxing holiday with plenty of sunshine then this is the place for you!

From the moment my wife and I arrived at El Paraiso we were put at ease with the warmest of welcomes from Mary and Pete. The surprises just kept coming when we got settled into the spotlessly clean, modern villa and found the huge welcome pack. This gave us enough time to get settled and find our way around Priego. After that it was a case of relax and chill out and boy didn’t we just! The surrounding views from the poolside were stunning and will stay with me and my wife forever. The 2 weeks we where there, we were blessed with the best weather and warmest sunshine we have ever experienced. I would definitely recommend this as the ideal chill out vacation and would recommend this jewel of a location to anyone. Our thanks again to Mary and Pete.

This was our second visit to "El Paraiso and as previously we were not disappointed. It is a wonderful place to relax, soak up some very welcomed sunshine and enjoy the spectacular views and countryside. The warm hospitality of our hosts Mary and Peter and the sole use of the private pool was the icing on the cake. The villa was beautifully equipped and clean and the welcome pack made our arrival feel very relaxed. We will certainly be recommending "El Paraiso", and will be returning ourselves next year.
Perfect Andalusian Retreat

Paraiso Encontro was our home for two and a half weeks in May, 2010 and was everything we had hoped to find. Just looking at the photos again takes us right back there! The apartment was fully equipped and so comfortable and thoughtfully designed to ensure maximum privacy yet with the freedom to roam the beautiful grounds.
The location is ideal and Mary and Peter were so welcoming - including stocking the fridge! - and cheerfully showed us around the charming town of Priego de Córdoba, including the best tapas bars! They were next door to meet any need we had, yet always sensitive to maintaining the privacy of their guests.
What a lovely 'home' it was to return to after a wonderful day exploring the beautiful surroundings, or after an overnight in Córdoba or Granada - The perfect base for an extended stay.
Thank you Mary and Peter - We would love a repeat! Liz and Len Johnson
