Barnacre is in the countryside, an area of outstanding natural beauty, the Forest of Bowland. Situated between the historic City of Lancaster and the bigger new City of Preston. The cottages are on a hillside with great views across to the coast at Blackpool, the Lake District and even the Isle of Man. The small, attractive market town of Garstang, with the weekly market on the High St every Thursday, is just a couple of miles away. You can walk there from our door, through the fields and public footpaths.
We have great places to see and visit for all ages. Including local countryside festivals and events. Our cottages each contain information books and lots of helpful tourist information . Plus, we are resident owners and are on hand to assist if required.
The Preston, Lancashire area
Whilst our surrounding countryside is beautiful, there are many places that our guests wish to visit. A traditional place is the Lake District, usually Windermere and Ambleside, which can be reached in less than an hour from here. Lots of pretty villages and towns, amazing views, but also very busy.
Blackpool is a very famous seaside town just a 35 minute drive from here. The Pleasure Beach now has a Nickleodeon theme for younger children. The Pepsi Max roller coaster and other thrilling rides. An ice rink and shows. The Tower is worth a visit, with the ballroom that held the finals of the 'Strictly Come Dancing' in 2010, plus an amazing circus. Sandcastles is a tropical indoor pool on the promenade. The Illuminations in autumn on the promenade with tram and horse carriage rides.
The football grounds of Manchester City and United, plus Liverpool just an hour away, have been destinations to visit for a surprising number of guests. Whilst the city centre of Manchester for great shopping, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Jack Wiils has been popular. On a rainy day the huge indoor Trafford Centre with cinemas, the amazing Orient eating area and again great shopping and free car parking is worth a visit.
For shopping enthusiasts, the discount outlet centres of Cheshire Oaks, the smaller Fleetwood Freeport and Boundary Mill at Colne are good places to spend the day.
Further afield, maybe travel back in time to beautiful York and Chester, with ancient buildings and in York the famous Yorvic museum.
This part of England, both the countryside and the towns, has an abundance of beautiful places to spend time.
Leisure activities available in the area include:
Golf courses, pay and play , plus Royal Lytham and Birkdale
* freshwater fishing
* caving
* jet skiing
