About the home

Les Parillers is a longere - a long farmhouse.

It has all the conveniences of modern living and is ideal for a family who enjoy country life. It is also a heaven of peace and tranquility for those who just want to get away from city life to relax by the pool, take a walk in the park or just watch the birds and squirels.

The property in parts dates back to the tenth century, when it was part of a much larger farming estate. There is still a large section of the moat which once surrounded the castle. Saint Menele was born on this estate in the 6th Century. There is a small church just across the fields built in his honour.

A true French 'longere' - a long house. You are welcomed into a homely country kitchen with all the conveniences to make your stay a pleasant one. There is a door leading into the lounge with wood burning fire for cosy winter visits. The bedrooms lead on through the house. The house is south facing, big thick walls and with shutters on the windows to keep the inside cool in the summer and cosy in winter.

Gas central heating is included if required. It has been tastefully furnished in french country style.

Set in over four acres of private parkland, teaming with wild life. This is heaven for the country lover who can watch the birds all day. There is a wide range of plant life and trees to be enjoyed all year round, including a selection of fruit trees and vines. Some of the wild life we have encountered include; squirrels, frogs, deer, hedgehog, rabbits, owls, wren, woodpecker, cuckoo, ducks, buzzards and much more. But you need to be quick or very patient to catch them on camera.

Far enough from the regular tourist trails, yet within a short drive of the many attractions of the famed Loire Valley. The Loire - Sarthe region offers endless possibilities for family fun visits.

We provide bed linen and towels and electricity free of charge. We also provide some basics in the kitchen that you might not think of when your doing your shopping like salt and pepper, kitchen roll etc.

The Loire Valley / Sarthe region

The Loire Valley was once the playground of French royalty.

There are five cities within two hours drive of Precigne. Le Mans for the racing is only 35mins up the road, whilst Angers, Saumer, Tours and Paris are all within easy access.

For the sports enthusiast - Fishing, Horse Riding & Racing, Motor sports racing at Le Mans & Golf.
There are 32 golf courses in the Pays de la Loire, ten of which are less than an hours drive. Follow along the hundreds of kilometres of well maintained walking trails some of which are right on the doorstep.

For the wine connoisseur - tour the many famous vineyards and chateaux along the river Loire within 45 minutes drive.

And of course many opportunities to absorb the culture of "old" France through the medieval towns and centuries old Chateau.

The Precigne area

Precigne is a sleepy village but don't be deceived it has all the essentials and much more too and the locals are very friendly and helpful.

The area is ideal for walking holidays even for the novice walker with good access to marked trails from 30 minute ramble to a full day adventure making this a destination that is good for short breaks or holidays all year round.

Be sure and visit La Fleche. There is a Zoo, the Military Academy, a small airfield or just for the market on Wednesdays.

Sable for a cruise on the Sarthe or a ramble through the cobbled streets.
The Abbey at Solemes, just beside Sable, still celebrates high mass on Sundays with the Gregorian Chant. This is worth a visit even for the not so religious.

Anger and Laval for the shopaholic have a collection of big stores and elegent boutiques.

All through the summer there are festivals happening in every town and village in the area, too numerous to list.

Airports offering cheap and convenient connections are Nantes and Renne both only just over an hour away and Tours is just under 2 hours away. Car hire is usually less expensive too ath these airports.
Only two and a half hours drive from Paris CDG Airport on autoroute.

The closest ferryport is Caen just over two hours drive, however Roscoff and Cherbourg are only a little further. Le Havre is also conveniently linked by good motorway connections.

Ten minutes to the local train station, Sable sur Sarthe, with TGV connection via Le Mans and Angers all over Europe.

“Wonderfully relaxing!” Les Parillers is quite a special place. The four of us including our two boys ages 14 & 11 loved it! It is in the most fantatstic setting and we all enjoyed the parkland, we took cricket and badminton with us and played throughout the week, my husband and I ran a few laps of the park and spent some time in the early morning just watching the wildlife. It is also great for a game of hide and seek!! Having a private pool was such a bonus and we were in there every day! The house itself was very comfortable and having two bathrooms was a real bonus, the beds were comfy, the linen and towels all beautifully clean. We were able to watch english tv (& therefore the Olympics) and had good internet connection. The kitchen is well equipped with a lovely large fridge/freezer and had everything I needed. We had a really relaxing holiday, it is very very peaceful and would also be ideal for younger children and larger families - we thoroughly recommend it.

“Ideal getaway haven for peace and quiet” Beautifully presented property with wonderful pool and grounds. Perfect for al fresco dining and relaxing sunsets with a glass of wine. The kitchen is rustic and the rooms are tastefully decorated. We enjoyed trips to nearby Precigne which has an excellent market and our favourite was the range of breads and pastries. The grounds are extensive and formed a pre dinner stroll each evening when we cooked in. If going to hypermarche to do a big shop make a list - les parillers is some distance from civilisation which is one of it's greatest charms.

“Les Parillers has to be the best holiday property we have ever visited!” Les Parillers is a paradise in the country. With excellent facilities, and surrounded by a wonderful 4 acre garden with mature trees and a moat with fish, frogs and lizards. So quiet and restful at any time of day or evening. A lovely private pool area to enjoy as a family. The pool and grounds are kept in great condition by a local farmer who is very helpful. Plenty of places to visit within easy driving distance, and in fact the new motorway system from Caen (Ouisterham comes within a few minutes drive of Prescigne, the local village, making access easy. Our children and grandchildren have voted it the best yet, and we hope to visit again in the future.
