The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Lot et Garonne region
Lot and Garonne is situated in the Aquitaine region in the South West of France. Also known by its historical name of Gascony, the region is one of outstanding natural beauty, steeped in history and benefiting from a warm climate from spring to late autumn.
The region is also known as one of the best, if not the best, gastronomic centres of France and is home to the world famous Fois gras and truffles. Indeed, the immediate locality surrounding the properties is at the heart of the truffle industry in France with the local village of Prayssas being renowned for its annual truffle market. Not surprisingly, the local restaurants are renowned for their cuisine and in particular the use of local produce.
The region boasts 3 main rivers, with the Dordogne in the north, the Lot in the centre and the Garonne towards the south. The property is located in the hills between the Garonne and Lot valleys and therefore boasts some stunning scenery.
Prayssas area
The region is blessed with wonderful countryside and historical places of interest, so is ideal for both passive and more active pursuits.
There is an almost endless list of places to visit in the area, from wonderful scenery, ancient villages, beautiful architecture and sites of outstanding natural beauty. Villages and towns
The local village of Prayssas is just 4kms away. This old bastide village is full of life in the summer months, extremely pretty and boasts all facilities, shops, restaurants, bar, post office, pharmacy and medical centre. Visit www.prayssas.com for more info.
The area boasts some fine examples of bastide (fortified) villages. Pujols is only 15 mins away and is exceptionally pretty. Slighty further afield (30 mins) is Penne d’Agenias, an excellent example of a bastide village and extremely pretty.
The two local towns (both approx 20 mins away) are Agen and Villenueve sur Lot. Both are very attractive and have excellent pedestrianised shopping areas in the town centres and a number of commercial centres on the outskirts with hypermarkets and other retail outlets. Agen is renowned for the aquaduct which carries the Canal du Midi across the Garonne river –recently featured in the Rick Stein tv series, "A French Oddessey".

The sunsets are simply magnificent, with the terrace being west facing to maximise the panorama. Extending to approximately 4 acres in total, the property offers plenty of scope to wander and watch the prolific wildlife. Birds of prey, tawny and barn owls and deer are regular visitors to the valley, (daily in some cases), with the occasional sighting of wild boar and badgers. The grounds to the property slope down the valley below the top terrace which houses the 3 properties and the Pool Terrace. " A wonderful place for a relaxing away from it all holiday. A beautiful part of rural france but only a short drive to all the amenities you want. The accommodation is everything you want and more with stunning view as well. We shall be back next year ! " JC London

"We did a lot of research before we decided where we would spend our first French holiday and were so glad that we chose Le Pigeonnier. The property was fantastic and has all the facilities and amenities you would ever need. We will never forget relaxing on the terrace, drinking local wine and watching the sun going down over the pool. The Holiday was all we wanted and more!" ML & CB, Swansea
"For our extended stay, the superb accommodation, which is excellently equipped, has made our time here just idyllic. The peace and quiet of the rural surroundings and that huge luxurious pool make for a perfectly relaxing time. You will not want to return home.Have no fear about booking, we guarantee just one stay here will not be enough ! " JM & MM, Devon.
"A truly wonderful & tranquil stay in this idyllic setting.Sainte Foy is a peaceful hamlet where time seems to have stood still. We stayed in the stunning ,unique & well equipped "Le Pigeonnier" in early April when it was warm enough to swim in the pool. Also to BBQ dinner & sample the local wine as we watched the sunset over the valley. The starlit night sky was magical. We must return soon. DN & CN Westerham,Kent "
" We arrived by chance having had some bad luck with another Gite which was dreary and cold, with no heating! Peter took us in at the last moment and we could not believe our luck. Le Pigeonnier is characterful, stylish, very comfortable and extremely well equipped with every detail taken care of. Beautifully set in the small hamlet with lovely views down the bucolic valley. The complex of buildings, of which Le Pigeonnier is one, is restored with care, attention to detail and style reflecting the very high standards of the owner. A great 10 days spent here; we are planning our return visit already." CS & IB Liverpool Apr 08
“We had an amazing stay at Le Pigeonnier. We were looking for a week away from it all and that is certainly what we got. The surrounding countryside is idyllic, the property is absolutely beautiful and we will definitely be back !!”
MS & AS London NW2 July 08
“We’ve had a wonderful relaxing week here at Ste Foy and we are very reluctant to leave. Le Pigeonnier was lovely, even better than the photos on the internet suggest. We have been pleasantly surprised by just how much there is to see and do in the surrounding area. We leave with lots of happy memories and will definitely recommend to friends and family. Thanks for making such a memorable holiday”
RL & SL Nottingham Sept 08
"Le Pigeonnier is a gem of a place. We very much appreciate all the restoration work so lovingly undertaken. We have totally relaxed here, using all the things to make our stay so enjoyable. Our only regret was that our stay was too short but we will be coming back as soon as we can." AH & MH Exeter July 08
