Home description
With an Agriturismo holiday, guests can forget about Hotels and Restaurants our holidays are just not like that. There are no characterless rooms, mass-produced food, and staff in uniforms. There are welcoming rooms, homely service, friendly chats and open fireplaces. And the food! The food reflects that which is locally grown and eaten - grown either on the farmstead itself or nearby. It is cooked in the local style, and is served around large tables usually in the open or near the open log fire. The Agriturismo holiday, however, is about choice. Guests are free to take part/help in all aspects of the running of the farm, or they can take advantage just of the welcoming accommodation and hospitality. There is so much offered on an Agriturismo holiday and you are able to choose how you would like to be involved or not!!

The Tuscany region
Florence is a city of Roman origin, and between the 14th and the 19th Centuries it experienced tremendous growth. It was an important economic centre during the Middle Ages, fundamental to the Renaissance, of strategic importance until the unification of Italy and the capital of the Kingdom from 1865 to 1871). The structure of Florence, both in town and in the surrounding hilltop suburbs, owes much to the powerful Medici family, that governed the city in the 15th to the 17th Century. The new buildings commissioned by the family are in perfect harmony wth the existing medieval architecture and the architecture of the following period of the Lorena during the 18th Century. In the museums you can see some of the best known pieces of art in the flesh so to speak; from the Annunciazione by Simone Martini (The Annunciation) to the Primavera by Sandro Botticelli, and the work of Leonardo da Vinci, Raffaello and Tiziano.
Prato is a busy town near Florence that could be described as having two faces. It is a densely populated industrial centre, capital of the province of Prato, and imbued with the spirit of modernity and hard work. But it also conserves its ancient orgins which are evidenced in its architecture and strutture. Gothic churches, 14th Century chapels and Renaissance palaces all bear witness to the phases of prosperity that Prato has seen down through the centuries. Prato developed on the banks of the river Bisenzio, and its 14th century city walls encircle the cathedral, the market and the old part of the city. Prato is also home to many important reliquiries, the most important of which is the the Cignolo Sacro the sacred girdle was reputedly worn by the Virgin Mary, and was acquired in Jerusalem by a merchant called Michele. Prato is the capital of the smallest province of Tuscany. Formerly part of the province of Florence, it was recently given autonomy. Centuries of subordination of Prato to Florence is but one stimulus for Prato is to remain independent as a city and as a culture. The writer Curzio Malaparte (another illustrious student of Cicognini college) wrote of the civic pride of the Pratese: "Being born in Prato is a great benefit, more a merit than a fortune, and you can see from the tenacity with which the citizens of Prato defend their provenance when quite easily they could pass as Florentines."
Prato / Vernio area
There are lots of trails in our valley. Maintained by the Prato branch of the Italian Alpine Club (Club Alpino Italiano di Prato) It's worth visiting the Natural Park Acquerino-Cantagallo.
For Florence, we always advise our guests to go by train: leaving from Vernio train station (about 2 km from here), Florence is just 30 minutes away. Florence train station a modern architectural masterpiece is right in the centre of the city, very near to Santa Maria Novella Square from where you can begin your visit of our wonderful regional capital. Traffic and parking will be someone elses issues!
Prato is our provincial capital, 15 minutes away by train or 25 minutes by car. It is famous for the textile industries but few people know it's a real medieval town with well preserved walls, a castle built by Frederick II, the Cathedral, Palazzo Pretorio, and the Basilica of S.Maria delle Carceri by the well renowed architect Giuliano da Sangallo, the Museum of contemporary art "Luigi Pecci" and the Museo del Tessuto
Lucca, Siena, Pisa, Pistoia and Arezzo are other tuscan jewels you can visit in one day.

ABOUT US When we began this agritourism venture, it was entirely new to us. We had no idea to where it would take us, but we did have one clear ideal: we did not want to create just another Hotel or Restaurant Tuscany is full of those we wanted to work towards giving our guests a pleasant environment in which to spend their holidays, enjoying local cuisine and relaxing in the serene tranquillity of our countryside far, far away from the stresses and strains of the city. Over the years, we have become convinced of our approach: we have met all sorts of people from many countries some quite extraordinary and which whom we have shared our experiences, beliefs and hopes. Even today, when talking amongst ourselves, we are quite amazed that such a small village in the hills can become, just for an evening, the centre of the world.
