The house is white and luminous. It is part of a picturesque context, made of small houses built following the profile of the rocky coast, according to the local customs, and connected to each other by narrow stairways ("scalinatelle"), that are the pedestrian alleys of the burg. It is approximately 50 meters (55 yards) from the road where cars are allowed.
Shops are at 200 meters (220 yards) from the house, and they will home-deliver upon request.
The closest beach is the charming beach of Marina di Praia, situated in a point where a small valley dug by the erosion meets, among the high rocks, a sea of the color of the emerald. In the summer time the beach is serviced by buses that leave from the center of Praiano every 20 minutes.
From Villa Sara you will be able to take splendid hikes in front of a breathtaking landscape, if climbing steps gives you no troubles. For example, not to be missed is the following hike: walk to the beach, along a"scalinatella" that will take you from the village to the Saracen tower by the sea, and from there walk for 400 meters (440 yards) along a charming downhill pedestrian alley, cut into the cliff sheer above the sea, that will take you to the beach. Many people enjoy descending this way to the sea in the morning, and get back up to the village by bus after their day at the beach.
If you would rather like to swim in a pool, in Praiano there is a nice public swimming pool with a view of the sea.
If you like hiking, in the area you will find walks that are famous for their extraordinary beauty, such as the "Sentiero degli Dei": Path of the Gods.
Praiano is placed halfway between Positano (7 km, 4.5 miles) and Amalfi (8 km, 5 miles). You will be able to board ferries to the isle of Capri, Sorrento, Naples, Salerno and the other tourist spots of the Amalfi and of the Sorrento Coast in Amalfi and in Positano.
From Praiano you will be able to easily reach Paestum and Pompeii by bus.
You will be able to park your car along the road, close to the house.
Your stay at Villa Sara will let you enjoy a vacation in a natural environment of splendid beauty, as well as quiet, elegant and relaxing. You will be able to grab the most authentic charm of the Amalfi Coast, just out of the frantic holiday life of the most crowded areas.
You will be able to visit the famous beaches of the Amalfi Coast and the characteristic fashion and artisans' shops, as well as attend the many cultural and artistic happenings that take place throughout the year.
Those who like go out at night will find that the Amalfi Coast has a lot to offer: from piano-bars to very exclusive night clubs.
The Amalfi Coast region
If you think you have no idea of where Campania is, think again. This fascinating land, rich in gulfs, islands and legendary places, is home to the charming landscapes of the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento, the Cilento National Park, Capri and Ischia.
The Campania region is situated in the South of Italy and bounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea (that’s the name of that stretch of Mediterranean). The region is divided into five provinces, whose capitals are Salerno, Caserta, Avellino, Benevento and Naples (Napoli). Naples is also the capital city of the region itself. With roughly 6 million of residents, half of which lives around the city of Naples, Campania has more people than Finland, packed in an area which is 200 times smaller.
If you are fond of archeology, architecture, or simply want to see history come back to life, Campania is a must. The archeological heritage is huge: the temples left by the Greeks in Paestum, the buried towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum, the remains of Velia, the masterpieces kept in the museums, the churches… and, of course!, the Royal Palace of Caserta, built to be the most sumptuous palace of Europe, with its 1200 rooms.
If the majesty you prefer is the majesty of nature, Campania will not disappoint you. The sandy beaches and the crystal-clear waters of the Cilento National Park, the amazing scenery of the Amalfi Coast, the islands of the Gulf of Naples are just a sampler of what lies ahead of you. From the underground depths of the caves of Pertosa to the heights of Mount Vesuvius, there is something for everyone. By the way, being Mount Vesuvius an active volcano, we respectfully suggest you visit sooner rather than later.
An outline of Campania would not be complete without a mention of its culinary tradition. Many of the world-known Italian dishes have their roots in Campania: pizza, spaghetti, mozzarella, limoncello, cannelloni… Italians know Campania well for being one of the regions that offer the best food, and definitely the region where you can taste the best coffee. Espresso, cappuccino and now interesting variations on the theme such as hazelnut coffee make the day of the residents of Campania, and will make yours as well.
So don’t miss your chance to enjoy the holiday of a lifetime in this beautiful land, where art, history, nature and tradition come together to offer unforgettable thrills.
Amalfi, situated at the mouth of the Valley of the Mills, with its characteristic groups of houses clinging to the rocks, overlooks the sea. It is a maze of narrow alleyways comprised of archways, portals and ancient towers that stand guard over the town.
The origin of the town date back to the IV century. During late medieval times Amalfi became an independent maritime republic, rich and opulent due to intense trade and cultural exchanges with the Arab and Byzantine world. The city was renowned for its trade and diplomatic relations throughout the Mediterranean, Flavio Gioia’s invention and development of the marine compass and the “Amalfitan Tables” - the first maritime legal code. It was also during this time that mills of Amalfi began to produce paper rather than parchment. The paper was used for all the official acts and documents of the Court of the Duchy of Naples. The particular variety of Amalfitan lemon “the Sfusato Amalfitano” crossed the borders of Europe, and was exported throughout the world.
The architectural and artistic values of its monuments and historical buildings, the indescribable beauty of its landscapes, its folklore and traditions have made, and still make, Amalfi a place without comparison, so much so that it has been said: “For an Amalfitan the day he goes to heaven is just like any other day”.
