Enjoy a day at the beach, swimming in the beautiful sea or at low tide explore the rock pools for interesting sea life, or just enjoy Brazilian beach life in one of the barracas (beach bars), sampling local cocktails or ice cold beers. Praia do Forte is home to a turtle conservation project open to visitors where you can see turtles of all types and ages and at certain times of year you can watch as the newly hatched baby turtles are released into the sea.
A short walk will take you into the village itself with its many excellent restaurants, great shops and bookable activities such as horse riding, quad biking, sea fishing, snorkelling, diving, canoeing, trekking and cycling. The North East Brazil / Bahia region
Bahia is in the tropical north east of Brazil and brings a mixture of stunning coastline, a rich culture and some of Brazil's most important historical monuments. The capital, Salvador, is one of Brazil's oldest cities and as the colonial capital for many years, it has impressive old historical quarters, including the 'Pelourinho' with its colonial townhouses (now housing excellent shops and restaurants) and impressive Baroque churches. Salvador is also home to a vibrant music scene and hosts one of Brazil's best Carnivals - still retaining a truly street party atmosphere which attracts people from all over the world. There are regular and inexpensive coach services between Praia do Forte and Salvador or tours/taxis can also be arranged locally. From Salvador, there are also boat trips to nearby islands and other attractions.
Bahia is also home of some major national parks - about 400km south of Salvador (by car or flights to Porto Seguro) is the site where the Portuguese first landed with some of the original rainforest still in place. Further south, you can reach the town of Caravelas from where you can take a boat trip to the marine national park of Abrolhos - a set of islands and reefs full of marine life to be observed. For the even more adventurous, about 300 km west of Salvador is the Chapada Diamantina park, an impressive complex of canyons, caves, waterfalls and underground lakes.
If the idea is to use Praia do Forte to visit other major Brazilian tourist destinations, Salvador airport is a connecting hub for all major domestic airlines linking the North of the country (the Amazon, other coastal states) with the South (Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Iguazu Falls, Brasilia, etc.).
Weather in Bahia is usually warm throughout the year, usually around 25-30C/75-80F
Praia do Forte area
If what you want from a holiday is to feel totally relaxed and chilled out, with the option to experience a whole range of activities Praia do Forte is for you.
Praia do Forte is consistently ranked as one of the top places in Brazil, it was originally a small fishing village which has been turned into a safe, attractive upmarket resort while still maintaining its local charm. The surrounding 12 km of clean beaches, peppered with coconut trees, are sparcely populated and very safe. There are lots of excellent restaurants, bars, boutiques and stores and the best bit is that because of the exchange rate it is really cheap to eat finest steaks and drink cocktails at all the best restaurants.
From Praia do Forte you can horse ride, sea fish, surf, scuba dive, snorkel in the natural low tide 'swimming pools', quad bike, canoe, visit the turtle reserve, watch whales from August to October. The area also has a nature reserve set around the ruins of the Garcia D'Avila castle.
There is a small village nearby called Imbassai (R$30 - approx £7.50 return taxi), which has a large, virtually deserted beach with a few beach huts and behind the beach is a river, which eventually turns round to meet the sea. The town itself is undeveloped and has a few restaurants and b&b's.
For more information about Praia do Forte and beautiful photographs we recommend you visit the tourist information site at www.praiadoforte.org.br

Guestbook for Casa Sapoti
I just want to tell you how pleased we were with your villa. Klevaire was very attentive with everything we needed, and your house is beautiful. We enjoyed our stay and will recommend you to anyone we know. Thanks again...GS, US
Well were back home having had a wonderful time at Casasapoti. We really enjoyed Brazil again its such a happy place to be! The house was perfectly located, everything easy walking distance, the kids enjoyed the pool and hammocks at the house. At praia do Forte you get so relaxed that its hard to get moving. The fort was beautiful and Imbassai was definitly worth a visit. Other than that we eat fish, had beach massages and generally hung out. Enjoyed time with the kids away from the rat race of daily life. all in all a holiday to remember, and in my opinion Brazil is a fantastic destination for a holiday. we'll be back! A H, Holland
We got back from Brazil late last night after a great stay at Casa Sapoti.......Thank you for sharing your house with us. We had a very relaxing time. The pool made a huge difference to our stay as the weather was very warm(as usual). JF
Just a quick email to say what an excellent time we had in Praia do Forte. The house was wonderful and it provided a great base for a very relaxing holiday. It was also lovely having the pool! AH, England
