Villa d'Oliveira
About the home
Villa d'Oliveira is a real family home in the sun. The large, open plan lounge and kitchen leads onto the pool terrace where most people spend their time. The villa is light and cool in the summer with high ceilings and large patio windows coming off each room. Being on one level avoids the constant up and down stairs of so many holidays and the non-slip tiles inside and out allow children to enjoy the villa in real comfort.
Everything has been provided with the outdoor life in mind. Alfresco dining, sun loungers and a shaded terrace off the main bedroom will help you make the most of your time in this beautiful part of the Algarve. There are some old bikes and a couple of body boards, inflatables and floats that you are free to use. We know how annoying it is to have to buy these things for a week.
The villa is equipped by a family for a family. It is for six people. There are games, DVDs, a Wii console, books, toys and a child friendly layout.
The salt water pool is approximately 1m deep at the shallow end increasing to 2m at the deep end. It has a strong cover that can be rolled out if you are concerned about safety.

Further details indoors:
The villa has a very spacious lounge that leads onto the pool terrace. This room is a delight - cool in the afternoon sun and cosy in the evenings. There is plenty to do. The large TV has a Sky box and DVD player. There is a selection of films and games with books and toys in a box. If you are thinking of a winter break the open log fire really sets the scene. There is a Wii console with a variety of games and rechargeable batteries are supplied.
The bedrooms are very large and light - each one has a patio window. There are two bathrooms and a separate shower room with showers that make life worth living. The bedding is by the White Company, there are bath robes, bath towels and beach towels. Just bring your toothbrush a swimming costume and a change of clothes.
The floors are tiled in a non-slip stone that means that wet feet inside is not a problem. Great quality towels and linen are provided.
The kitchen has been equipped with quality equipment, sharp knives, a Kitchenaid blender and everything that a demanding cook would look for. This is not an ordinary holiday rental.
The kitchen looks out onto the pool (you can always keep an eye on the children) and is fully fitted with a dishwasher, gas hob, oven and a large fridge-freezer. A small utility room has a washing machine, dryer and a fridge for the drinks.
This is our own family home and has been equipped with a family in mind. The single level accommodation makes it ideal for families. You will not spend your holiday going up and down stairs. It is also great for small children or the disabled as there are only two small steps inside. The villa is for a maximum of six.
Further details outdoors:
The pool is the obvious attraction. It is a salt water system so no 'chlorine eyes' or smelly skin. It is simply the best pool to swim in. There are three steps into the 1m shallow end and a gentle slope that makes at least half the pool suitable for young children. It is big enough to swim in properly and has a strong pool cover that can be fitted in a couple of minutes to protect children and, if fitted at night, keep the pool temperature high.
There is a colourful garden around the terrace that is automatically irrigated and there should be some colour in the garden whatever time of year you visit. There is a table under the olive tree that is great for breakfast and the the main dining table can be moved outside under the shade of the terrace to make the most of the weather
The villa is in Montinhos, a two minute drive from Praia da Luz and ten minutes from Lagos. This allows you the benefits of a peaceful and quiet villa close to two of the best destinations in the Algarve.
The property is enclosed by a wall and locked gates and so small children can not wander off. There is plenty of parking space and room to run about.
There are beaches galore to chose from but there are two in particular that you should know about as you can see from the photographs.

The Algarve / West Algarve region

With nearly 200 Km of glorious coastline, unrivalled beaches and two-dozen prime golf courses, the Algarve is one of Europe's best-loved holiday destinations and increasingly, the place of choice for family holidays. Considered by many to have one of the most agreeable climates in the world, the Algarve enjoys long, dry summers from early-June and mid-September with an average of 12 hours sunshine per day.
Thanks to the freshening influence of the Atlantic breezes, summer days are rarely stifling and uncomfortable. Winters are mild and often equate to a typical Northern European spring. Today, the Algarve is more accessible than ever, under 3 hours flying time from many of Britain's principal airports and, with excellent road and rail links.
An hour's drive from Faro international airport lies the ancient harbour town of Lagos, the region's principal town, a handsome, vivacious and cosmopolitan centre, rich in history, yet possessed of the full compliment of modern amenities. The harbour contains a sizeable marina, whilst a kilometre of palm tree lined sea-front promenade invites leisurely sunset strolls before dinner at one of the many excellent eating-houses nearby.
The craggy headland of Ponte de Piedade, some 3 km west of the town, is a striking example of the ocean-gnarled cliffs, and amazing grottoes for which the Algarve is famed. This is the beginning of the Costa Vicentina, a hinterland populated by traditional fishing hamlets and enchanting country villages. This dramatic stretch of Algarvian coast reaching from Lagos to Europe's most south-easterly point at Cape St Vincent, and then turning northward up the breathtaking shoreline as far as Odeceixe. A realm where Nature reigns supreme, for many, this unspoiled corner of Europe represents the very best of the Algarve.
Along the Costa Vicentina lie about 40 glorious beaches, each has its own particular charm, some are secluded coves cowled by rock formations, others present wide expanses of golden sand stretching as far as the eye can see. Nearly all offer excellent water sports opportunities with outlets throughout the locality providing equipment hire, advice and tuition. On the south coast, outstanding beaches include those found at Lagos, Luz, Burgau and Salema.
The beaches of the west coast often receive the full invigorating force of the Atlantic waves and tend to be rugged, windswept and dramatic. One of the most underdeveloped coastal-zones in Europe, the region presents a wealthy natural heritage of flora and fauna inhabiting a rich variety of locations including cliffs, dunes, woodlands and river valleys. Virtually the whole of Costa Vicentina and a large portion of the interior is protected as a nature reserve, ideal for long country rambles either on foot or on horseback - there are several riding stables in the area. Here one can observe over 200 species of birds, including eagles as well as hundreds of plant varieties, several which are unknown outside the region. If you are lucky you may well glimpse an otter, fox or wild-cat.
The region's fresh seafood is simply exquisite. Here you can sample time honoured dishes such as "Cataplana de marisco" - fish and clams cooked with spiced sausage and fresh vegetables in a sealed copper pot. Shellfish is a speciality, harvested daily, in addition to many varieties of fish cooked on traditional open-air charcoal grills. Inland you will find seafood deliciously combined with land produce including pork, rabbit and other game dishes.
Of course, the Algarve is renowned as one of the world's golfing capitals with about 26 superb courses including some of the best championship layouts in Europe. All but about 5 of these courses lie within an easy hour's drive of Lagos whilst, practically on the doorstep, there are at least three exceptional courses, Parque da Floresta, set on a series of small hills; Boavista Golf, set on hilly uplands surrounded by natural forest and Palmeras, host to the annual Almond Blossom tournament every February.
In addition the Algarve offers a wealth of fitness centres, health clubs and natural therapy centres, alongside the full range of land-based outdoor activities including tennis, bowls, mountain-biking, go-carting, micro-lite and glider flying.
The Praia da Luz / Montinhos da Luz area
Located bewteen Praia da Luz and Bergau and only 10 minutes drive from Lagos, Villa d'Oliveira is superbly located for a family holiday. Wonderful beaches, secret coves and small villages are within an easy car journey. We know what it is like to travel with children and the location of thie vila means that once you have arrived you will need only small journeys in the car.
The Saturday market and daily fish market in Lagos are well worth a visit, a day on the sheltered beach of the small fishing village of Burgau. Some time snorkelling in the clear waters of a hidden bay two minutes away that you are almost certain to have to yourself - even in August or some time on the busier beach of Praia da Luz with all its small bars, cafes, restaurants and facilities.
We can give you top recommendations for the best value restaurants, the cafes and beaches that will make your holiday so much easier. There are great beaches for swimming, watersports, snorkelling or sunbathing all in the immediate area. There are towns and beaches further away that you may want to see. A holiday at Villa d'Oliveira will give you everything that the best of the Algarve has to offer.

My family and I have just returned from a fantastic holiday in Praia du Luz staying at the amazing Villa d'Oliveira. The villa is light and airy and more than comfortable for our family of 4 adults and our son, aged 22 months. Villa d'Oliveria was immaculate on arrival, with all of the home comforts as an added extra that you rarely expect when on holiday. This was our first foreign holiday with our son who settled into the extremely child friendly Villa d'Oliveira immediately on arrival (he found the toys and books!) We didn't want to leave and we will certainly return to this luxury spec, family friendly home in the sun. |

Villa d'Oliveira is such a lovely villa. It is kitted out in a way that it feels like home which makes you feel more relaxed. The pool is great and the not overlooked giving you privacy. Highly recommended. We will stay there on our next trip to Luz. |
Guestbook for Villa d'Oliveira
We bbq'd every night; lounged by the pool just about every afternoon and evening; and the kids enjoyed watching some movies and reading "new" books at bedtime! You and your family are very generous for allowing renters to come in to such a special place. We couldn't think of any other holiday that we spent so much time at the accommodation! We can't thank you enough. Amanda May 2010
I just wanted to write to let you know how lovely we found your beautiful villa. We both had such an enjoyable time - our only complaint is that it was too short - we were both really sad to leave. The weather was absolutely perfect - it was very hard to get up for work this morning, such is the contrast!
We loved the villa so much that we enjoyed the vast majority of our time there, both during the day and in the evenings. Gill, September 2010
