Casa Chrisdell
About the home
A beautiful villa in the lovely family resort of Praia da Luz. An older style property with loads of character and space but with the advantage of having been fully modernised to a very high standard. It has the luxury of being only a 20 mins walk or 2 mins drive from the beach, most shops and restaurants. However, it still retains a very high degree of privacy being positioned in a 'no-through' road in a residential area.
The villa and heated pool have fabulous sea views. Next to the pool is a large covered BBQ and dining area with a sink, fridge and range of storage which stays wonderfully cool in the heat of the day.
Casa Crisdell is so close to many amenities, car hire is not essential but with children or elderly recommended.

The very large triple aspect lounge has a feature wood burning fireplace, lots of seating, satellite TV/DVD/VCR, CD player plus a PSP2.
There is a selection of books but please remember to bring your PSP games and CDs or iPods.
The lounge is at the front of the villa and has fantastic sea views through the 3 sets of glass doors and windows that show the views from 3 sides of the villa and opens onto a large part covered terrace, overlooking the pool area, garden and sea.
The dining room has seating for eight at the large table.
The kitchen is fully fitted with granite worktops, new equipment (dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer etc) and a door to the separate utility room with washing machine, tumble dryer, extra fridge freezer.
There are 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms (one en suite),and a separate WC, the en suite with bath and separate stand alone shower and the other 2 with baths and good quality over bath showers and glass screens.
The master bedroom has a super king size bed, en-suite bathroom and dressing area.
All bedrooms have radio alarms, air conditioning units and hair-dryers.
All the bedrooms have large fitted wardrobes and direct access to the terraces or garden.
Three of the bedrooms are on one level (the master, double and twin) along with the en suite and one bathroom.
The other double and twin are on a separate level with the last full bathroom.
All of the bedrooms can accommodate a cot or z bed although the master, double and twin on the same level are the larger rooms and could easily take a cot and z bed!
All the windows and doors have new shutters to keep the villa cool and secure.
We can also provide cots, high chairs, monitors and microwave steriliser for babies and a z bed for children or adults.
There is a safe and alarm in the villa.
Further details outdoors:
Our villa is set in the middle of a good (1400sq mtr) mature plot with beautiful mature palm trees, hibiscus, bougainvillea and orange and lemon trees.
There is a large secure parking area which easily fits 4 cars and security lighting.
Outside 3 of the bedrooms there is a grass area which has shade for some of the day and is a great change of scene for younger children or maybe the older ones to kick a ball about. On the same level as the living room there is a very large terrace with a large table and chairs and a shade (oz shades) which is a great place to have breakfast in the heat of the hot summer months.
Steps from this terrace take you to the pool and BBQ area. Our pool is 10m x 5m kidney shaped and has steps that are great for young children in the shallow end. (We have owned the villa for 4 years and have two very young children who have enjoyed wonderful holidays not wanting to get out of the pool!). The pool can be heated at a small additional cost.
The area around the pool is spacious and we have many excellent quality sun loungers and umbrellas. There is room for the table tennis table to be set up on this terrace and it is here that we have the covered BBQ area with sink and fridge to make poolside al fresco dining (and drinking) so easy.
There are power points here for iPod docking stations or CD players and an excellent range of outside lighting for the evenings. There is an enclosed poolside toilet and shower plus a further outside shower by the pool.
There is a lovely bar/restaurant recently renovated which does lovely food 2 minutes walk from the villa.
Further details
We supply bathroom towels but would ask that you do not use these outside and bring beach/pool towels.
We use a local English speaking (in fact Rosemary is English but has lived in the Algarve since the 1960's) agency who will come to see you when you arrive and make sure you understand how everything in the house works and answer any questions you may have.
Philomena our maid comes 3 times a week and for an additional charge will be happy to do babysitting and has even been known to cook having run a restaurant for years! There is a linen change once a week.
We can organise a welcome pack of food, taxi's to and from the airport and have a good book in the villa with recommendations, details of all sorts of excursions.
Conditions
Please vacate the villa by 10am on the day of departure. Arrival is after 2pm unless other arrangements have been made.
Changeover day is Thursday. Can be flexible out of peak season.

BookThe Algarve / West Algarve region
The amazing thing about the western Algarve is that there is so much to see and do in such a wonderful climate.
Exploring the coast and finding little bays tucked in the cliffs with wonderful fish restaurants, or driving inland to say "Monchique" and see its spa of 2000 yrs.
Wander the countryside and see how the cork trees are grown or go to the old walled town of "Silves" with its medieval castle and Cathedral or even travel to the most south westerly points of Europe to the fort at "Cape St. Vincent" and "Sagres"(approx 20mls).
The Algarve is now so accessible with the new road network that you can investigate new areas easily. For historic interests - they are everywhere - lighthouses, forts, castles, churches, the roman baths situated in Praia da Luz (just off the prom.& which were used between the 3rd & 5th centuries AD), museums & the slave market in Lagos.
Here it's still possible to walk around the old city walls, some dating back to the 15th & 16th centuries & then, of course, there is this wonderful, outstanding natural coastline to admire especially by the "Ponta da Piedade" lighthouse.
For sport, obviously, its a golfers paradise as it is for any water sports, scuba diving or fishing &, for that matter, also for tennis, horse riding, cycling, walking or bird watching & much more - even Jeep safaris!
For the children the beaches are wonderful & plentiful from long clean stretches of sand to small little coves hidden away. The sea is clean & mainly shallow for a long while before you go to any depth. Also there are a few Zoos in the area. Lagos Zoo at "Barao Sao Joao" is the nearest & like all modern Zoos they concentrate on preservation & conservation & Omega Park (on the road to Monchique) specialises in different species of monkeys.
Approx 30 mins drive there are 2 water parks, one at Lagoa & the larger of the 2 "Aqualand" at "Alcantarilha".
Zoomarine, which is near "Guia", is a superb ocean theme park (the best in southern Europe) providing great entertainment & education for children & adults alike.
So, all in all, you can be assured you should never get bored around here!
The Praia da Luz / Montinhos da Luz area
The beautiful sandy beach of Praia da Luz is a 2 minute drive (20 minute walk) away. Praia da Luz retains the charm and character of a traditional Portuguese fishing village yet offers excellent facilities to compliment the fabulous broad and safe sandy beach which also has some great rock pools for the children.
These include many restaurants, pubs, beach bars, shops and local amenities - not to mention its romantic traffic free promenade. This small quiet resort is perfect for a family beach holiday.
Luz has a water sports centre offering jet skis, banana boats and windsurfing, etc.
From the Villa it is a 20 minute stroll into Luz or approximately a 2-3 minute car drive to the heart of the town.
On the other side of "Casa Christell" is the beautiful fishing village of Burgau, nestled on the edge of the national park, it is still a working fishing village and steep narrow cobbled streets lead down to an outstanding sandy beach surrounded by cliffs. Burgau has, amazingly for its size, a good amount of restaurants, bars, shops etc.
The walk to Burgau along the cliffs is breathtaking and takes approx 50 mins. from the Villa but, if you prefer, it takes less than 5 mins to go by car. Burgau Sports Centre offers a range of children’s sports including tennis, football, hockey, touch rugby, running races, swimming races, diving competitions, baseball and rounders.
Lagos is an absolute jewel in the Algarve crown which offers a balance between charm and history. Lagos is our closest town, being 10 minutes drive from the Villa. It is one of the oldest, and largest towns in the Algarve. Still a fishing town, with gaily-painted fishing boats lining the harbour, it is also a major market centre for the region and many people consider Lagos the most likeable town on the Algarve coast, with its beautiful marina and although steeped with history dating back to the 15th century, it is now a youthful town with a refreshing and relaxed charm all of its own.
Set within a still largely intact set of Roman walls, the centre of Lagos is a maze of winding cobbled streets full of pavement restaurants, cafes bars and antique and art shops. There is plenty to do and see here whether its exploring its lovely historic past or to shop, dine or just to watch the world go by!
There is a large selection of places to eat here and fresh fish is a speciality at many of the restaurants. There is lots of night-life to enjoy too. Cocktails seem to have become a Lagos speciality and you will find plenty of bars in which to sample them.
Also wander around the marina admiring the yachts or hire a boat to go fishing or to watch the dolphins and here they also offers boat trips to the grottoes and caves around the coast. Lagos is a 10 minute drive from the villa and it is very easy to get a taxi there and back (about €10 each way)
The resort of Parc de Floresta is a 10 minute drive away and offers golf, riding, squash, a gym and beauty salon. The western tip of Portugal is a 15 minute drive away and in this area you will experience the local atmosphere. Four top class golf courses are within 30 minutes drive of the villa. Boavista(5 minutes), Parc de Floresta (10 minutes), Palmares and Penina.

The house was large enough to cope with 3 sets of adults and 3 children. All had good size bedrooms and separate bathrooms. The living space and entertaining areas were good to cope with up to 14 people easily (my brother and his kids who live in Portugal joined us a lot for meals and swims). Overall I rate the house very well. I wouldn't describe it as luxurious but it was comfortable, clean and well kept excepting the odd thing that had broken. Bring pool towels (not provided) all bath towels are. It's set on two levels with stairs down to some bedrooms and if not using bedroom access to the pool you have another set of steps to encounter to get back down to the pool so not for large groups of really young kids but 3+ is good. Also no pool fence, though this is normal in Portugal. |
