This luxury development is quiet and friendly, with a relaxed club-like atmosphere. Pool-side bar with all-day food in summer , and also the year-round indoor Hugo Beaty bar/cafe which is a great place to eat, mingle and meet new friends in the evenings. Fully equipped gym, and indoor 14m pool with jacuzzi and sauna.
Only 5-10 minutes walk (300 metres) to beach or village centre - you don't need a car. We can give you a contact for airport transport for about €80 each way. Please note that many new developments described as being in Luz are actually not within walking distance of beach and village, but this development really is ideally located. If you do hire a car, there are lots of fabulous beaches, some deserted even in peak season, within a half hour drive.
Luz is a lovely location for a family beach holiday, small groups of friends, and for golfers/walkers. Estrela attracts families, couples, and adult groups. Most of the visitors tend to be Irish or British, and we´ve also had Dutch and Canadian guests.
The village of Luz is low-rise, mostly villas, with plenty of restaurants, bars, a lovely seafront promenade with coffee bars, gift shops, and in the evenings, gift and jewellery stalls. Nearby Lagos (taxi 10 minutes Euro10) offers a good nightlife with restaurants and clubs.
The apt is finished to exceptionally high standard. Secure electric soundproof shutters and underfloor heating for winter evenings.
Child safety: Our furniture is family-friendly and really comfortable, ie no glass tables, white couches or sharp corners to bump into! The Estrela complex is secure and gardens are enclosed with coded entry gates.

This is a new apartment, very well finished and comfortably furnished. The kitchen, dining and living areas are open-plan and all open onto balcony with sea views. The kitchen is excellently fitted out, with all you need to create a meal for al-fresco dining. The south facing balconyis also great for perfectly private sunbathing during the day, and from it you can see both outdoor pool areas. Note that many of the apartments at Estrela have small terraces and some do not get sun at all. Ours offers both sun and shade all day.
Both bedrooms have two single beds, one arranged as a double and one as twin. One of the double sofas in the lounge is a sofa-bed. We recommend a maximum of four people in the apartment for optimum comfort, but it can sleep five.
There are three supermarkets within walking distance, the smallest (like a centra) less than minute walk and the larger Spar and Baptista less than 10 minutes walk. Baptista will deliver your food. Lots of take-way options too.
Fish market in Luz is in the mornings 9-12; In Lagos there is a fantastic all-day fresh fish market, well worth a visit even just to look at!
Wi-fi access in apartment for as many gadgets as you like. TV in living room and bedroom.
The apartment has electric shutters which keep it cool by day. There is under-floor heating which is cozy in winter, and, with the south-facing aspect of the terrace, the indoor pool and gym, our apartment has also proven particularly popular for off-season rentals. We have not yet installed air-conditioning as it has not proven necessary, because the elevation of the apartment gives nice cooling breezes in warm weather. We've never needed it, even in August.
The apartment is serviced by an lift/elevator from the basement car-park or ground floor.

Luz beach and village with great restaurants are only a few minutes walk away. Luz beach is fabulous, sandy and clean, with great selection of watersports available, including sailing, banana boats, kayaking etc. Kids and family sailing and water sports instruction available. Even nearer - 200 metres - is a lovely sandy cove nestled in flat rocks which are lovely to sunbathe on.
There is an excellent taxi and bus service also. Lagos is a lovely town for shopping, dining or simply strolling around to sample it's historical attractions. You don't need a car but if you do have one, you should explore this wonderful coastline and the surfing beaches on the west coast, eg Amado and Bordeira beaches. Bring the body boards! Alternatively Oceanico reception organises surfing trips and lessons with transport included.
Access to pools, gymnasium, tennis and health facilities are free to you. Tennis coaching, golf , sailing, surfing and scuba diving can be arranged, at a reasonable charge, through reception.
Cots and high chairs can be arranged for a small additional cost. Babysitters also available through reception.

The Algarve region
The Algarve is well known for it's fabulous sandy beaches. Less developed than area around Faro and Albufeira, the Western Algarve still has small villages with small beach coves etc. The south coast has calm seas generally whilst surfing is popular on the wilder west coast, 25 minutes from Luz. The west coast is a nature reserve with magnificent long beaches and the area has many walks.
Praia da Luz
Praia Da Luz is a lovely little seaside village, and a really well-kept secret. White villas, sandy beach, cobblestone walkways, slow and lazy atmosphere. Good choice of quality restaurants, bars and cafes as well as a range of shops and supermarket. From Estrela all are within 10 mins walk so you don't need a car.
Estrela da Luz is in a quiet location in the village (many of the newer developments are actually quite a distance outside the village), just 250m walk to a small sandy cove with lovely rocks for sunbathing on, or 350 m to the popular beautiful sandy Luz beach at the centre of the village which has a large range of watersports ans saliing equipment for hire and lessons are available. The coastal walking and cycle path starts about 200m from Estrela.
Irish visitors may be interested in the very competitive dental prices in Portugal and I can recommend a very good dentist, 2 mins walk from the apartment which our family attends.
