The Algarve region
This area of the Algarve offers a range of climate depending on time of year to suit all needs, Spring, Early Summer and Autumn offers a more moderate temperature which is just made for golf, mountain safaris and sightseeing. In Luz, the months of June, July and August never get too hot due to the magnificent sea breeze and September and October are balmy and my favourite times. November, December and January are cool and quiet but are still excellent for Golf and the New years party at Estrela da Luz is a bash and a half.
The Algarve is a haven for golf and the area around Luz has Boavista five minutes up the road, with Palmares, Parque de Floresta and Penina all within 20 minutes and all are championship standard. The resort reception will arrange golf trips at discounted rates for guests.
Praia da Luz
The area surrounding Luz offers the more adventurous a range of sightseeing and dining experiences to explore. There are a number of small towns and wonderful beaches to be investigated to the west of Luz, some of the towns are Burgau, Sagres and Cape Vincent. Back east towards Faro one can visit the more familiar names such as Alvor, Carvoeiro, Portimao, Albufeira and past Faro to Olhado, Tavira, Lago and the Spanish border. I would have to recommend a drive into some of the surrounding rural villages for lunch or dinner and a craft of wine all of which is easy on the pocket.
The town of Luz has an excellent supermarket, local convenience shops, doctors surgery, dentist, opticians and a pharmacy. All this combined with a gated resort, 24 hour security and reception, child minding and a baby sitting service, a children's club, the John Alderage summer football school and split level pools for adults and children in a beautifully landscaped environment means that every need is addressed in the immediate area.
Luz which is a few minutes walk has many bars and restaurants with and a couple of night clubs. Luz beach is about 3 minutes walk from the complex and is effectively a sandy cove surrounded by spectacular hill formations with the village as a background where there are quaint places for dining and coffee. The beach has its array of water activities and is an excellent place for sunbathing, snorkeling and surfing or simply strolling the sand in the early morning or evening. The cliffs around Luz provide for scenic and envigorating walking which is a great stress reliever.
The nearby town of Logos is 10 minutes by Taxi and costs about €8 and is rich in ancient maritime history but with all the amenities of a modern holiday town. It's spectacular marina and narrow back streets have some of the best restaurants particularly for seafood and as the best ones are the hardest to find these can be recommended on request. The night life is abundant for the younger or not so young and is also the place to organise major activities such as surfing, kitesurfing, mountain biking, wakeboarding, dolphin watching, game fishing and sightseeing from the ocean, particularly some of the many caves and formations along the coast and various excursions.
You could bump into anyone at Estrela da Luz including famous or house-hold names from the Golf, Ruby, Snooker, Football or Political world.

Wonderful villa with excellent views and accommodation. The villa was wonderfully equipped and very comfortable.
We stayed here for a week in September and the weather was fantastic. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 young children plus the grandparents came along too. The villa was the perfect size for us all.
The three balcony's were fantastic and as the main balcony does not get the harsh afternoon sun it was perfect for dining and enjoyng a glass of wine whilst taking in the beautiful sea views. As this apartment is at the top of the complex we always had a cool sea breeze.
The villa was very clean and we were very impressed at how many items were in the kitchen making the self catering a dream.
The complex was also great. Pools were an excellent temperature and made swimming with the young boys fun and easy. The staff in reception and around the villa were helpful, friendly and accommodating.
There was only one small thing that we would change; the master bed was a little soft, but not enough to make our stay uncomfortable.
Thanks for a wonderful stay, would definitely recommend and stay again.
