The Algarve / West Algarve region

The Algarve is one of Europe's favourite holiday destinations because of its wonderful climate and unrivalled beaches, stunning coastline and superb golf courses.

The Algarve region has an average of 3000 hours of sunshine a year! A combination of long, hot summers from May to October and sunny, mild winters with low rainfall makes the climate is near perfect!

Gentle sea breezes near the south western coast lower the humidity making it excellent for summer sun holidays. The pleasantly warm and sunny winters are ideal for golfers and people wanting a relaxing holiday away from it all.

The Western Algarve has wonderful coastal walks which offer stunning views of secluded coves and beaches and dramatic cliffs. There is an abundance of picturesque fishing villages, with lots of reasonably priced local restaurants and bars.

By car you can explore the beautiful coastline of the Costa Vicentina Natural Park, and a short drive inland transports you to wooded hills, mountains and traditional villages. Monchique Spa town in the mountains of the same name, and the ancient walled town of Silves are special gems in wonderful settings.

Watersports are available at many of the beaches, as is tennis and horseriding. Dolphin safaris and coastal and grotto/cave boat trips are on offer from Lagos harbour, and there is at least two waterparks in easy reach.

Golfers are spoiled for choice in the Algarve. There are at least 30 golf courses, many of them championship courses and all are open to visitors. The wonderful climate, the magnificent landscape and scenery and the natural Portuguese friendliness and attention to detail have firmly put the area on the world golfing map.

Praia da Luz / Luz Park area

The large village of Praia da Luz has everything you need for a happy, relaxing holiday and it still has a village feel and atmosphere. There is a variety of cafe bars, restaurants where good food is served at very reasonable prices. The people are genuinely friendly and helpful and there are interesting small shops selling gifts, jewellery, clothes etc., small supermarkets, pharmacy, Banks, Post Office catering for all your needs.

There is an attractively paved promenade leading from the village down to the Blue Flag Beach which nestles between the distinctive Black Rock and the Fort. In the square behind beach there are colourful market stalls and shaded cafe bars to sit and quench your thirst.

The lovely ancient harbour town of Lagos is a 5 minute drive from Praia da Luz., also connected by regular bus service. Lagos offers a wider selection of shops, supermarkets and eating places and charming cobbled streets in which to explore some of its historic past and present day magic.

Lagos has a large modern marina, a zoo and the extensive stretch of sandy beach, Meia Praia is nearbyand between Lagos and Praia da Luz is the much photographed Praia da Donna Anna.
