This fabulous four bedroomed apartment in the Estrela da Luz complex is located in the charming village of Luz. The village itself has retained its quaintness and yet still provides all the services tourists and visitors require. Luz is only a short car drive away from the larger resorts such as Lagos, Alvor and Albufeira. The accommodation is only 200 metres from the beach at Praia da Luz. The location is second to none and the complex offers all that a four star resort would. The apartment has easy access to all amenities, including the local supermarket for provisions and there are many excellent restaurants for eating out . All the mod cons provide safety and peace of mind during your stay such as underground parking, electronic gates, intercoms, security and CCTV.

The Algarve region
The Algarve is as an area of great charm and beauty, an unspoilt haven with inviting beaches set against dramatic cliffs and rugged coastlines, interspersed with traditional fishing villages.
The historic seafaring town of Lagos lies at the heart of the Algarve, sheltered by the Ponta da Piedade and guarded by an ancient fort. From here, in the great age of discoveries, Portugal’s famous explorers set sail. Although now a lively and bustling town with an award winning marina and many shops, bars and restaurants Lagos retains the gentle atmosphere that is characteristic of Portugal and its people, providing a delightful insight into Portuguese life.
The long sandy beaches in the south western Algarve stretch for an age along the winding shores. Many of the beaches are lifeguard protected. There are many pretty beach bars where you can sit and sip sangria on the terraces. The sea is gentler on the south coast than the west, where you can experience some of the best surf in Europe or simply watch in awe as the waves crash against this dramatic coastline.
The climate of the Algarve is so mild that out door sports and activities are enjoyed all year round. The area boasts some world-class golf courses and tennis clubs. You can experience horse riding and walking amongst the natural beauty of the Algarvian hillside, and a full range of water sports are offered. For those who want to take it easy, there is a place for them too. Blue skies, a sun lounger and a good book are all you need.
Praia da Luz / Estrela da Luz area
Luz is a traditional Portugese fishing village, the centre of which is a blug flag sandy beach bordered on one side by dramatic cliffs and on the other by a long promenade dotted with beach bars, restaurants, cafes and shops. The area is a watersports and golfers paradise with 15 championship courses within easy reach. The area is also a perfect base for exploring the coastline and the many other more westerly villages such as Burgau, Salema, Sagres and Cape Vincent to name but a few. The village is not known for its nightlife but a trip to nearby Lagos can remedy that. The village itself has a variety of shops, bars and restaurants / beach cafes. There are plenty of local restaurants offering both Portugese and International cuisine (please ask for recommendations). There are stunning cliff walks both west and east of Luz, the views from which are spectacular. There are fantastic beaches in the surrounding area too, infact, one is spoiled for choice with each one being better than the next.
As a location for families it ticks all the boxes both resort and location wise with Lagos Zoo, Waterparks and Zoo Marine within driving distance. For the golfer there is a never ending choice of courses and a different one could be played everyday. It is an ideal destination for Spa breaks with the sunny climate, yoga classes on the beach and the Elemis Beauty Spa on site. The Algarve Shopping Centre in Guia is a short drive away and is home to shops such as Zara, Mango, Massimo Dutti, Pepe, Quiksilver, Sephora and many more. Praia da Luz has something for everyone and the pace of life, spectacular weather and friendly locals makes it the ideal holiday destination only a 2.5 hour flight away from Ireland and the UK.

How to get there
By Air: Ryanair, Aer Lingus, Globespan.com, Flybe.com and Easy Jet all fly to Faro.
By Car from Airport: Luz is approx 80km from Faro Airport. Journey time by car 50 mins on Motorway. Easily navigable, directions available on request. Car not necessary but useful if you wish to explore the area surrounding Luz in greater detail.
By Taxi from Airport: Transport by taxi to resort can be arranged by owner on booking. One way fare approx 80 euro. Return transfer can be also arranged or can be booked by guest via Oceanico at resort reception during stay.

Further details indoors: The apartment is furnished to a very high specification and is a home away from home. It is accessed by a lift from the basement car park or ground floor. The kitchen is a modern fitted kitchen with integrated appliances and with cutlery/crockery for 8 people. There is a balcony off the kitchen with seating for dining and the view from here is just as spectacular as the sea view from the front of the apartment. The living area is large and airy and leads out to another patio area with seating and fabulous sea views. The living room has an open plan seating and dining area and houses the flatscreen TV, DVD, Satelite Box and Hi-Fi system. Air conditioning is in all rooms and there is underfloor heating for the low season when the temperature can drop slightly. The bedrooms are large and airy and have plenty of storage space, three of which have sea views. Bathrooms have double sinks and showers and there is a bath in the ensuite bathroom.
Further details outdoors: As there is so much to do in the complex and the surrounding area the apartment is perfect for all holidays no matter what time of the year. The Estrela complex houses a gym on site, 4 swimming pools (one indoor), an Elemis Spa, 2 pool side bars, Hugo Beatty Bar/Cafe, Calabaza Restaurant, Tennis and Basketball courts, Football pitch, Playground, Internet Access, Mini-bus service, Kids club, Babysitting, landscaped gardens and a 24 hour reception. Shops, supermarkets, chemist, opticians, health store, beach side cafes, restaurants, take-aways, dentist and doctors surgery are all within walking distance of the property. Outdoor pursuits include golf, surfing, sailing, fishing, horse-riding, walking, mountain biking, wind-surfing, tennis and boating. The beach is only a 5-10 minute walk away and is sheltered by the striking cliffs. The resort is family friendly but at the same time is perfect for those looking for peace and tranquility with a separate adult pool area and gardens and the kids area/club being located off site. For self-catering there is a mini-market in the neighbouring complex and a larger supermarket 5 mins walk away with an in-house bakery and meat counter providing local and international produce. The port town of Lagos is only a 10 min drive away (approx €7 by taxi) with shops, restaurants and bars and its large marina where boat, dolphin-watching and fishing trips can be taken.

This is our second time to visit EDL and the resort just keeps improving. The kids club, and free WiFi, are new and welcome additions to this classy, friendly and well positioned resort. A reliable Babysitting service is also available and very welcome too.The apartment is very spacious and the best equipped we have ever stayed in. There is crockery, cutlery, TV and Cable, Iron & Ironing Board, Clothes horse washer drier......Every need is catered for. There is also underground parking with direct lift access to the apartment. The village of Luz has a number of very good family places to eat, and good supermarkets if you want to eat in. The beach is lovely and is only a short walk from the resort. The bar Hugo's is very well run and the service is top class. They don't mind unruly children either! The Calabaza in the complex opens at the week end and is very suitable for families. Girls on tour! Leaving behind a cold and wet Dublin to land in the sunny Algarve was the beginning of three fun filled day's in Praia de Luz. The apartment was modern clean and spacious and imacculately clean (I'm a Monica!) with fresh fruit and hot rolls on arrival. Our first morning was a little overcast so beauty treatments, a light work out in the gym followed by lunch in the Hugo Beatty were the order of the day. Praia de Luz has all the amenities of a european holiday resort, but yet has a lovely relaxed village feel to it. Local restaurants are really good and really reasonable! Hence nights one and three were spent locally. On night two we spread our wings and went into Lagos town, 15mins taxi drive away You have to visit Restaurant des Artistes, fabulous meal and wine!!! What girly holiday would be complete with shopping..on our last day we went shopping in Guia followed by a long leisurely dinner. Verdict: Highly recommended. P. Wilson, Ireland.
We had a great holiday, very relaxing. The weather was great as well. And the photos of the apartment on the website do not do it justice, because the apartment was something else!
