The Costa de Prata/Silver Coast region

Praia d'El Rey Golf and Country Club is located in the western tourist region. This beautiful region of Portugal has escaped the ravages of commercial tourism.

Nearby is Peniche, which as late as the mid sixteenth century was an island in the Atlantic. It is now joined to the mainland by a long, narrow isthmus, flanked by gently sloping beaches. Prestine beaches lure visitors to the sea, especially those near Baleal.

Most of the nearby towns date back to the twelfth century but the "jewel in the crown" is Obidos, only 20 minutes away. It is medieval with its many churches, the quaint and picturesque houses with ochre and blue window and door frames. Flowerpots sit on verandas, swing from walls or cascade from terraces.
