The nearby (15 mins) medieval walled town of Obidos is in a magnificent state of repair, and enjoys World Heritage status. Within the walls are fascinating alleys which have become home to high-class handicraft and gift shops as well as excellent bars and restaurants.

Close by is Caldas da Rainha, famous for its spa - for 4 centuries only the noble and those with royal patronage had permission to enjoy it! This is also the best place for shopping in local area, with several supermarkets, banks, street markets and quality shops.

It is also enjoyable to walk along the sea wall at the local fishing port of Peniche before visiting one of the many harbour-side restaurants for fresh fish cooked on a barbecue.

Fly to Lisbon - there are plenty of scheduled and low cost carrier flights available from both the UK and continental Europe. Time to resort approx 45 mins.

All major car hire companies available at the airport - book online or we can arrange this or taxi transfers for you.

Alternatively Fly to Porto (2.5 hours to property) or Faro (3.5 hours to property).

Driving directions will be provided.

A further option might be to sail overnight to either Bilbao (from Portsmouth) or Santander (from Portsmouth or Plymouth) and spend some time exploring northern Spain and Portugal en route to Praia D'el Rey.

“Terrific apartment with fantastic view of the ocean” Wonderful accomodation with great views of the Atlantic ocean. Very comfortable with great facilities and mod cons. Very close to beach, small supermarket and cafe. 20 mins to the lovely town of Obidos or fishing and surfing town of Peniche. 2 x good golf courses nearby and lovely lagoon for swimming. Lots of organised activities if you can tear yourself away from the balcony. Very friendly and helpful owner. Great holiday!

“A beautiful well equipped apartment with fantastic views.” We loved the apartment and the location, we would recommend having a car. This area of Portugal is completely unspoilt. The golf courses are excellent and were not overcrowded. All aspects of the booking were handled promptly and efficiently.

“Fabulous Apartment - great spot - but you need your own transport” Beach Balcony is an excellent well equipped and comfortable apartment with great views over the sea. The beach is beautifully quiet and you can walk in either direction for over an hour without seeing more than a dozen people. The only slightly negative note and it didn't spoil our holiday is there are very limited places to eat or drink - the golf club house and Marriotts Hotel being the only two within walking distance and are both over 1/2 hour each way (apparantly there is a bus service). The only shop on the complex was very expensive - twice the price of the local supermarkets and very limited selection. Transport is essential and there are some great interesting sights - cheap good restuarants all within 1/2hrs drive. Lastly there is a large complex being built next to the Beach Balcony block - construction work was ongoing while we where there - but should be finished early 2012 by the looks of it - this should add some additional shops and possibly eating places which will be good. Overall well worth a visit - but you need your own transport!

“Fabulous apartment, incredible views” A spacious, comfortable and stylish apartment, with fantastic west facing balconies. The accommodation is well-placed on the luxorious Praia del Rai golf resort with easy access to a beautiful beach and several swimming pools. The nearby medieval town of Obidos is well worth a visit.

“It didn't disappoint, again” We were glad to return to the Beach Balcony to enjoy the wonderful views and dramatic sunsets again. The apartment comfortably accommodated four adults and is very nicely decorated and equipped. There are lots going on in the resort and places further afield to visit. The hard part is tearing yourself away from the the beach and the balcony!

“Great apartment, great view” We stayed for a week and our only criticism was that we weren't staying for two. There's some building work adjacent but it didn't intrude. In the peak season it might be less relaxing, but if you can avoid peak, you won't be disappointed

“beautiful apartment with great sea views.” We have actually stayed at beach balcony on 2 seperate occasions and both times have had a wonderful stay.The apartment is beautifully equipped and furnished and has the most amazing sea views, great in the evening enjoying a glass of wine listening to the waves rolling in! Whilst Praia del Rey is a golf resort first and foremost it is a lovely place to vacation for all, although quietly situated on the coast with limited facilities within walking distance.A car is a must if you really want to enjoy this fabulous part of Portugal with it's endless beaches and interesting towns. There was plenty of info in the apartment regarding the area and the owners had provided as much as possible to make for a great holiday.

“Great place. Great service during booking and on arrival. Would recommend to anyone.” Had a great time. Good for families but you should ensure that you have a car because there is a lot to see quite close by. Would go back for sure.
