Les Volets Vermeilles
About the home
Les Volets Vermeilles is a sunny, bright and welcoming village house in the tranquil heart of Codalet, a small village on the outskirts of Prades in the lush Conflent valley of the Pyrenees Orientales.
Our lovely three-bedroom gite comfortably sleeps six people in one double room and two spacious twin rooms. The private, walled garden with pool (3.5m x 3.5m) and shady patio is equipped with dining table, chairs and sun-loungers.
45 minutes’ drive to the Mediterranean beaches, 45 minutes from the Pyrenean ski resorts (by car, train or bus) and just a 10-minute stroll into Prades itself, Les Volets Vermeilles is a perfect base to cater for all your holiday plans.

The terrace from the living room looks onto the village square, and boasts a perfect view of the Canigou mountain beyond.
The garden is set in the walls of the old barn with a raised decking area, garden and shady patio. The plunge pool is available from May - September and is heated naturally by the sun.

Changeover days are Saturdays but this is flexible outside the high season.
Linen & cleaning:
Linen and bathroom towels are provided and laundered at no extra cost.
The house is cleaned after each let, but we do ask guests to leave the property as they found it.
Children & Elderly guests:
As there is a balcony on the third floor, we believe the house is unsuitable for young children. One of the staircases is quite steep, and, as the house is arranged over 4 floors, would be unsuitable for people who have difficulty climbing stairs. Children must be supervised at all time in the walled garden/pool area.
Smoking:
Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the house.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region

There is something for everyone in this area of France. The climate is the warmest in the country, with over 300 days of sunshine a year, mild winters and glorious summers. Water from the mountains irrigates the valley, so despite the low rainfall it never looks parched and dry.
The area is peppered with Cathar castles, vineyards, historic towns and spas. Whether you’re looking for sports activities, relaxation, pampering or history, the area around Codalet is full of ideas to inspire your holiday.
The Prades / Codalet area
The charming village of Codalet is perfectly placed at the edge of the market town of Prades with the Canigou and surrounding countryside on its doorstep. Cycling trails start here up into the foothills of the mountains and ramblers will love the many signposted walks which criss-cross the region.
Just one kilometre out of the village you'll find the beautiful Abbaye de Saint Michel-de-Cuxa which hosts numerous musical recitals during the summer months as part of the Pablo Casals Festival.
Prades itself is a pretty, bustling town with plenty to occupy visitors. There is a great range of local shops, cafes and restaurants and the square hosts a farmer's market twice a week.

Booked as a last minute get-away, we were delighted with this authentic French gite. Split over four floors, there was masses of space (for two people) but maybe a bit of a squeeze for 6, especially... more |

We a a mature married couple that stayed for 2 weeks in July at Les Volets, and had a wonderful time! So much to do and explore in this region, there was still lots we were unable to do in 2 weeks! Amazing views from both sides of the house, and a lovely garden, but so many places to explore - absolutely brilliant if you have a car, though not essential for many places. Whether you like beautiful walks, climbing mountains, going to the beach, or after a bit of history (eg: cathar castles recommended), its all here. Prades itself has a beautiful market square and a nice little buzz about it. We were lucky enough to visit on Bastille Day, when it really came to life!!! Amazing for a town with just 7,000 people! Codalet itself and the setting of the house it really something special, but very sleepy and historic - if thats what you like then this is the place! Lots of easy little walks into Prades - 15 mins max. So many of the "most beautiful villages in France" around here such as Eus and Villefranche (like a mini Carcassonne) all worth a visit. You can climb Mount Canigou if you like (9,000ft), or visit the Cathar castles (Queribus I partic liked). If you have a car, then a day trip to Collioure on the coast near spanish border is a must - gorgeous! (1 hours drive) - what a perfect day trip. We would definately come back. Simon and Jen |
