Home description
L' Aigle is a luxurious two bedroom gite (1 Double and 2 Singles), situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It is an ideal location for walking, cycling and generally exploring the area which is rich in historical sites and natural wonders. Alternatively, it is also an excellent location for just relaxing in the courtyard, enjoying an al-fresco meal and just generally winding down.
The property is an ideal size for four adults or a small family. The open plan living area on the ground floor is light and airy and leads via a wooden staircase to the upper floor where the bedrooms and bathroom are situated.
The well laid out master bedroom has wide doors opening out onto it's own balcony overlooking the courtyard, whilst the twin/double room is also very well proportioned and looks out over the courtyard below.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
Languedoc-Roussillon is perfectly location to get away from the long rain filled summer in UK and Ireland positioned between the Mediterranean to the east where the beautiful sandy beaches provide long days by the sea, and the Pyrenees to the west, which offer a wealth of walking and cycling opportunities, not to mention skiing in the winter!
If you are into extreme sports they can all be done from here, with some of the worlds greatest climbing very near by. The terrine is suitable for all from beginner to the most experienced climers. We can arrange guides if you wish, also accomadation for number up to 20.
This region is a delight; the Conflent valley provides lush green scenery, with Mount Canigou dominating the skyline and the Pyrenees visible in the distance. You can be swimming in the sea in the morning, and hiking in the mountains in the afternoon. There are even thermal hot springs, so if you would like to combine the two activities we can suggest a hike AND a swim in the mountains! It really does offer you everything!
There is a lake in the local town of Vinca (15 minutes drive), with beaches, from which you can swim, sail or wind-surf, or you could just visit the popular open air swimming pool in Prades.
Weather: We benefit from being in the sunniest region of France, and enjoy warm, sunny weather from March all the way through to October. November and December are cooler but still with sunshine. January, February and March are great skiing months (35 minute drive to the ski resorts).
Prades / Fuilla area
Fuilla is a very peaceful, typical village of the region. It benefits from being located so close to the Canigou mountain giving walkers and cyclists a great starting off point for some fantastic tours. So why not give it a go and Walk to Pic du Canigou!
The house is a short drive (4 km) from the recently nominated UNESCO world heritage site of Villefranche-de-Conflent. Fuilla also benefits from a small cafe just a short walk away. There is also a grocery store in the nearby village of Sahorre, which is easily walked, so it’s easy to forget about the car for a few days, relax and unwind. It also has easy access to the main road between Perpignan and Andorra which allows the surrounding area to be explored very easily.
The nearest main town, just a few kilometres away, is Prades. A thriving market town, Prades has many great shops and restaurants as well as a lively market on both Tuesday and Saturday mornings, where you can buy local produce such as the peaches and cherries that are grown in abundance here, fresh vegetables, wonderful cheeses…. and of course the excellent wine!
There are events and festivals throughout the year. Spanish cellist Pablo Casals fled to Prades during the Spanish civil war, stayed and established the festival that now bears his name. The Catalan summer school takes over the town for two weeks in August, and there is dancing in the square every night during this period.
Just a few of the sites of interest within easy driving (or walking) distance are listed below:
*Rockpools at Sahorre (3km) - Fantastic place for just relaxing and taking a dip in the cool, clear mountain water ! *Villefranche de Conflent, a fine example of a medieval walled town and recently nominated as a UNESCO world heritage site. (4km) * Little Yellow Train, catch this train from Villefranche-de-Conflent and enjoy the specatular mountain views right into the Pyrenees. (4 km) * Grottes de Canalettes, magnificent renowned caves with an incredible light and sound show (4 km) * St Martin du Canigou, 9th century abbey perched impressively high on the hillside with fantastic scenery and walks. (6 km) * Casteill animal park (9 Km) - great fro the children. * St Michel de Cuxa, 6th century abbey that hosts concerts during the Pablo Casals festival but is also open for viewing most of the year. (10 km) * St Thomas les Bains, outstanding natural thermal hot springs in wonderful outdoor mountain setting. (15 km)
