Our house is situated next to the 11th century church in the heart of the quiet Catalan village of Corneilla de Conflent. Spread over 4 floors and with a wealth of exposed beams and stone the house also benefits from a large non-attached garden (50 metres away) which has superb views of the surrounding mountains and countryside. There are 4 large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (1 en-suite), a large dining table seating 8 people comfortably, as well as 2 large settees and an open fire in the lounge.
The house is well positioned for access to the numerous local walking and hiking trails as well as the larger villages of Vernet-les-Bains with its thermal baths, parks, restaurants, bars etc. and the mediaeval walled Villefranche-de-Conflent.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region
The Pyrénées-Orientales region of southern France is a land with many different themes running throughout its long history. To many, its name invokes merely the Pyrénées, yet it is the Fenouillet range that are in this region and not the Pyrénées themselves. In fact, the region is more hilly than mountainous and is home both to the hilltop castles of the Cathar period and to the Mediterranean beaches ranging from Canet Plage near Perpignan to Banyuls-sur-Mer close to the border with Spain.
Nestled among the many valleys you'll find spectacular gorges, isolated abbeys and monasteries, not to mention untold numbers of medieval villages. Much of the region retains a Spanish influence from the long period under Spanish rule seen in its people and some of the not-quite-French local customs.
The Pyrenees-Oriental region receives over 300 sunny days each year and is an ideal place for walking, hiking and cycling as well as relaxing, sightseeing and sunbathing.
Prades / Corneilla de Conflent area
There are many and varied attractions in the local area including a stunning cave system at Villefranche-de-Conflent (3km), the walled village of Villefranche itself, the Little Yellow Train which winds its way through the mountains from Villefranche towards Andorra, Fort Liberia above Villefranche, an animal park (with lions, bears, camels etc) and the Abbey of St Martin at Casteil (5km) and the sacred Catalan mountain, The Canigou (2784m), at the head of the valley above Vernet-les-Bains, which can be reached either on foot or by 4x4 from just down the road in Corneilla.
Vernet-les-Bains (2km) has children's playgrounds and several parks as well as thermal baths and an open-air public pool (including a baby pool). If you fancy a punt there is even a small casino in Vernet-les-Bains.
There is a small beach at the swimming lake at Vinca (20min drive), whilst further afield are the beaches at Canet, Argeles (50 min drive) and also the fishing village of Collioure which was home of the artist Matisse and also has a superb castle overlooking the bay. Here you are also not far from the route of the Cathars and there are many more castles and monuments to visit. It is also possible to visit Andorra as a day trip.
The nearest golf course is a 9 hole course 25 mins away at Arboussols (20km). Font Romeu has a spectacular 9 hole course high in the mountains (50 mins away) and there are 27 holes at St Cyprien on the coast, 1 hours drive away.
In the winter the ski resorts of Les Angles and Pyrenees 2000 are 45 mins drive away.
