Sans Souci - Luxury Cottage - Free Wifi
Cottage | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 6
As you first approach the small, but active, village of Sournia from Perpignan, you will be struck by the magnificent mountain views. Mount Canigou, the sacred peak of the Catalans, is often snow capped until June and dominates the landscape of the area. If you are lucky enough to come in spring, the peach and cherry blossom in the foothills, frame this famous landmark beautifully.
Surrounded by ravishing landscapes, from wide beaches at the coast to the incredible backdrop of the mountains, with stunning rock formations nearby and vineyards and fruit orchards in the valley, Sans Souci offers you a wealth of places to explore. A variety of things to do await you throughout the year – soak up the sun, meander at your leisure through small medieval towns, discover the secrets of the Prehistoric and Roman history, explore Cathar castles, ramble over the Fenouillèdes, with their rocky outcrops, and aromatic shrubs, or just simply…relax by the new pool.
The house offers 3 comfortable , beautifully redesigned double bedrooms, decorated in sympathetic neutral tones, with quality fittings and the extra touches that make this cottage your home from home.
The open plan layout on the ground floor ensures that socialising is not a problem whether you are cooking in the well equipped kitchen area, chatting over the dining table, or relaxing with a glass of the local wine stretched out on one of the large sofas. On delightful summer evenings, you might well prefer to enjoy your wine outside in the gazebo listening to the sounds of the crickets in the warm evening air whilst taking in the lovely garden views.
As the nearest city, Perpignan, is often the hottest place on the French weather map in the summer months, we are sure that the new swimming pool will be appreciated, by adults and children alike. Sournia, standing at 640m above sea level, has the benefit of a refreshing breeze with average high temperatures for summer months of 29°C – 30°C. Just right! So sun lounging and dips in the pool are all catered for with stylish loungers and large, soft towels.
If, on the other hand, you have decided that an out of season break is just what you need, Sans Souci has a log burning stove, in addition to heating, which gives a lovely cosy feel throughout the house – just right after a day on the ski slopes of Font Romeu, one hour away, or on your return from a walking expedition or gentle stroll!
SO…….If you are looking for the French experience in a corner of France rich in Catalan identity, with all the opportunities for relaxation, sightseeing, cycling, hiking, walking and much, much more please come and visit, you will be made very welcome.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region
Languedoc-Roussillon is perfectly positioned between the Mediterranean to the east where the beautiful sandy beaches provide long days by the sea, Spain to the south for days out across the border, and the Pyrenees to the west, which offer a wealth of walking and cycling opportunities, not to mention skiing in the winter!
In this area, the Pyrenees Mountains dominate the skyline. Snow covered for about 8 months of the year, they always look magnificent.
We benefit from being in the sunniest region of France with more than 300 days of sunshine each year, and enjoy warm, sunny weather from March all the way through to October. November and December are cooler but still with sunshine and clear blue skies. January, February and March are great skiing months (1 hours drive to the ski resorts). Ideal for walking and cycling.
Languedoc is the largest wine producing area in Europe, at the time of the harvest the aroma of wine making is almost intoxicating. Follow the extensive wine trail and sample the huge variety of wines from this distinctive region.
Famous for it's health spas and thermal baths you can take time out to pamper yourself and relax.
For the more active there are water sports, golf, horse riding, cannyonning, climbing, fishing, hiking, rambling, para gliding, cycling, skiing, snow boarding and much, much more.
Nature reserves provide an amazing variety of flora and fauna and there is even a marine reserve that can be enjoyed by snorkeling or scuba diving.
Follow the Cathar trail and find out more about the people who tried to break away from the Catholic church and paid a heavy price. There are many amazing Cathar castles to visit and learn about their fate.
There are local produce markets and country bric-a-brac markets in towns and villages on different days throughout the week.
From early spring until late autumn there are numerous festivals, fêtes, classical, jazz and folk concerts in villages and towns around the region. Of course, children are welcome and included in all activities.
AS you first approach the small, but active, village of Sournia from Perpignan, you will be struck by the magnificent mountain views. Canigou, the sacred peak of Catalunya, is often snow capped until June and dominates the landscape of the area. If you are lucky enough to come in spring, the peach and cherry blossom in the foothills, frame this famous landmark beautifully. Your journey will then take you up the mountain road, introducing you to some of the medieval villages of the region along the way and to the spectacular rock formations of the natural amphitheatre, carved by nature and known as Les Orgues.
