In the heart of the Conflent Valley region, Vinca is on the shores of a large lake which is used for swimming and non-motorised watersports. The town is also nestled beneath the Catalan sacred mountain 'Canigou', which is arguably the most impressive landmark of the region.

There are a number of bars, restaurants and shops in the town, all within walking distance of the house and although the house does not have broadband available, for those who need to stay in touch, some of the cafe's in the town now offer free WiFi access, so keeping up to date is easy.

Ideally located in the thriving town of Vinca, this charming house (Maison de Village) offers spacious and comfortable accommodation. The spectacular Catalan covered rooftop terrace with unimpeded panoramic views offers a great place to relax and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.

This spacious 4 bedroomed property is perfectly positioned in the market town of Vinca and benefits from a magnificent 20m2 covered rooftop terrace with uninterrupted views of orchards and mountains in the distance.

Accommodation is arranged over three floors, with the living area, kitchen, dining and bathroom areas located on the ground floor. The two spacious upper floors contain the 4 bedrooms.

The living room includes a dining area and comfortable lounge which is centred around a cosy wood-burner which makes the property ideal for both summer and winter breaks. The living area also benefits from a satellite TV with some English channels and DVD player (so don't forget your favourite DVD's). The sofa in the lounge also converts to a double bed if needed.

The newly refurbished kitchen located at the rear of the property is bright and spacious and has a large patio door opening onto a small lane at the rear of the house. Also at the rear of the property is the new bathroom and separate w.c.

On the first floor are three light, spacious bedrooms - two comfortable double rooms (one of which

has TV video player with wide selection of videos to use and fold up portable single bed). and a bunk bedroom (with third slide out single bed if needed). The bunk room also contains a table football game, TV and XBox with a selection of games which are ideal for keeping all the family happy when not out and about.

Moving up to the second floor brings you to the terrace and also the magnificent attic double bedroom which has it's own large glass doors opening onto the spectacular terrace. The covered terrace itself has unimpaired panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and offers a fantastic place to relax in the summer heat whilst enjoying an al-fresco meal.

The spacious roof terrace offers a shady place to enjoy long lunches, with seating for to 12 people and a gas barbecue.

Also available in the house for your use - Inflatable dingy and oars, lilos, buckets, spades, beach chairs, mats umberella, boules, fishing nets etc.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Nestled beneath Mount Canigou and on the edge of a large mountain water lake with beautiful soft sanded beachfront (used for swimming and sailing), Vinca is a charming market town that combines the charm of a French village with the convenience of having restaurants, shops, bars and cafés.

It is extremely convenient for all the main towns and visitor attractions of the region and in addition to this it is only 20 minutes from the historic Catalan capital of Perpignan, 30 minutes from the Mediterranean beaches and resorts of Canet Plage and St. Cyprien and 50 minutes from the main ski resorts (Font Romeu & Les Angles).

The nearest larger towns are Ille-sur-Tet (8 km) and Prades (8km), which both hold regular markets and festivals throughout the year.

Prades

The main attraction in Vinça is the beautiful beach area and swimming lake surrounded by hills, trees and mountains. The beach area has a small snack bar so you can stay at the beach all day. For younger children there is a play area, with a large selection of bouncy castles. You an also take horse rides at the lake.

Newly built Spring 2010 is an all weather basketball/football play area 200m from the house.

There are 3 tennis courts (free) and we have rackets and balls or your use.

Only 100m from the house is a small kiddies playground

Villefranche-de-Conflent (Walled medieval town)

Grottes-des-Canalettes (Magnificent caves)

Geology Museum at Vernet-les-Bains (Incredible collection of over 10,000 fossils and minerals)

St.Martin-du-Canigou (an Abbey dating back to the 9th Century).

Saint-Michel-de-Cuxa Benedictine monks have been here since 578. The Abbey is pre-Romanesque and the cloister (in pink marble) Romanesque. Concerts during the festival Pablo Casals at nearby Prades.

Prieuré de Serrabona (literally, the Priory of the Good Mountain) Consecrated in 1151 and classified as a Monument Historique in 1838. Famous for its beautiful capitals in the cloister.

The little yellow train (Petit Train Jaune)… a fantastic train journey through and up into the Pyrenees.

Thank you for your review, I'm sorry you had a poor experience. Over the last two years since your visit we have improved the house a lot including the installation of a new kitchen and bathroom. I agree that the cleaning was an issue we have dealt with this by employing a new housekeeper.
We have been letting this house for many years and you were the only family that did not get on with the lovely neighbours. It was probably because you kept parking in front of their garage! There is parking on the street directly outside the house but like all on street parking it is not for your sole use. The letter was not "snotty", I read it for you as you do not understand French, it politely asked you not to park in front of their garage.
Constructive feed back is always welcome if timely, two years after your holiday, I'm happy to say, your comments are out of date.

"A beautiful and relaxing trip"

After reading the 'grotty holiday house' I had to check we had visited the same house! I took my fiance there for a week away. We loved the surroundings but the house was the highlight for us; especially the log burner and the top floor balcony area, where we spent most evenings watching the sun go down with a glass of wine and the barbeque provided. We found our bed extremely comfortable and the linen fitted the country cottage homely feel perfectly!
I loved the fact that we could get up and go to the local bakery every morning for fresh bread and crosissants before jumping in the car and venturing into local villages and markets or going for walks around vinca itself; a beautiful (very french) village with extremely friendly residents.
We only went away for a romantic break, however we are definitely planning on going back with other family members as the house has more than enough room for young and old. We would love to use the house for both skiing and a summer holiday.
Would highly recommend to all!

"Lovely house and great holiday"

We had a lovely stay at Maison La Lavande - great house - ideal for our family and we loved the area - loads of great places to explore. And when we weren't off exploring, the kids went down to the beach by the lake and I relaxed and sunbathed on the wonderful roof terrace.

"A Relaxing Rural Retreat"

We always enjoy our visits to Maison La Lavande. It is ideally situated to explore the region with Perpignon and the beaches to the East and the peaks and trails of the Pyrenees to the West with excellent transport links along the N116. The house is comfortable and spacious and the view at sunset from the rooftop terrace is simply stunning. Vinca is a charming unspoilt town and Les Anglais are always made welcome in the local shops and bars in the Old Town close to the property. If you wish to stay locally, the lake is close by and an excellent amenity.

"Fantastic trip"

I was slightly concerned about this trip after reading the previous comment, however I must say that I was pleasantly suprised. I visited Vinca with my girlfriend and two other couples for a skiing break between Christmas and New Year. We found the house in a great/pictursque location, allowing us to access the slopes and also the coast when we took a day off from skiing. The house was clean and accomodated all 6 of us perfectly. The rooms were comfortable, spacious and well heated. Being able to ski all day and then relax next to the log burner drinking local wine and watch either DVDs or Cable TV was fantastic. The Kitchen was well equiped and had everything we needed. The toilet and shower also worked well. Great value for money and I would recommend to anyone looking to visited this beautiful pyrenean region. I can't wait to go back.

"Villagers for a week!"

Wonderful location in a traditional French village tucked away in the foothills of the Pyrenees. We really enjoyed becoming part of the village for the week. The locals made us very welcome on our short walk every morning to buy bread and croissants. Visited the Med and the mountains and enjoyed being between both. We flew into Perpignan and hired a car which turned out to be an ideal way to explore the region. Wine and food, especially fish from the nearest supermarket, were memorable. Great base to explore from.

"grotty holiday house"

truly the house is dreadful. the furniture is all cobbly, the beds and matresses made all our backs sore and the linen was from the 60s. we complained and had to complain hard to get 25 pounds. worst holiday of my life.
whatever you do - choose something else.

"A home from home in a beautiful location"
