Halfway House (house)

Home description

Our house contains six rooms on two floors, 135 square meters. It is fully air conditioned to the highest standards. The house is ideal for family reunions (up to 13 people as a maximum) but is also great for 3-4 couples traveling together and cozy enough for just two. There is a separate entrance to each of the floors so you can divide early birds from those who want to sleep until noon. For out of season holidays our house is comfortably heated with AC system. This makes for a relaxing holiday with plenty of sightseeing opportunities.
The town centre, a 10-minute stroll, has a lot of restaurants well worth visiting,all the necessary shops, banks and ATMs. There is a large municipal swimming pool and tennis courts at a one kilometers distance and 3 very good supermarkets, including one selling organic food.
Its a place where you can be as relaxed or as active as you wish!
Skiing, skating, mountainclimbing, cycling, rafting, fishing, golf, horseriding as well as swimming and all kinds of watersports, birdwatching and sightseeing are quite possible and very popular here. Prades itself is a very pretty town which holds a big market twice a week.

The Languedoc-Roussillon / Pyrenees-Orientales region

A beautiful region with perfect climate and a lot of places to visit. Among them: Villefranche de Conflent A medieval town with complete fortified walls. It is also the starting point for a ride on Yellow Train. You can ride in open or closed top carriages admiring the breathtaking view. Abbeys at St Martin de Canigou & St Michel de Cuxa. The 1.3 km long path to St Michel starts almost from the gate of the house. By the way, St Michel de Cuxa it that very place where the heroine finally kills Dracula in the bestseller by E. Kostova “The Historian”.Tautavel Museum – the site of the oldest human in Europe. 3 natural reserves within 10 min drive are ideal for walkers, a still larger one in Nyer preserving wild life of the Pyrenees as it is can be reached in 15 min . Animal Parks -near Vernet-les-Bains (10 min drive) and at Les Angles where wild species are kept at semiliberty will keep your whole family busy for half a day. The Perfume Tower in Mosset can be reached in 10 min, the Solar Oven at Mont-Louis in 30 min by car. And also Perpignan with its Palace of the Kings of Majorca, Collioure with its Royal palace overlooking one of the most beautiful ports in France, Ceret with its Modern Arts museum are well worth visiting.
The road from Perpignan goes by endless peaches, appricot and cherry orchards . The trees will start blossoming in March, when the mountain slopes are still covered with snow. Why not to come in March to combine the pleasures?

Prades area

There are plenty of things to do all year round. The skiing season starts in December and often lasts through into April. The main resorts are at Font Romeu - Pyrenees 2000 (40 pistes, 52 km in total) and Les Angles (32 pistes, 40 km in total). But you can enjoy skiing also at Col de Jau which is called the smallest skiing resort in Europe and is located in 15 km from Prades( 2 downhill ski pistes, 1 ski lift, also cross-country ski, snowshoe walking). Swimming – at any coastal resort you can choose from a large range of (45 km to Canet plage) or at the lake Vinca at a 10 km distance - good also for surfing and diving. Or you can swim in warm waters at the thermal spas of St. Thomas-les-Bains - against the backdrop of the mountains. Wind surfing, water skiing at most coastal resorts. Diving at Argeles, Banyuls, Port Vendres, Bacares, St Cyprien and Collioure. 2 adventure parks within 6km distance. Also within easy reach are the four nature reserves of Py, Mantet, Nyer and Jujois, as is the Carlit Massif, a very popular region for walking the GR10 coast to coast path and Pyrenean route across the massif. There are both multi day and day walks to the interior from valleys on the outer rim. In addition, several summits are accessible to walks as well as challenging rock climbs. Golf at Font Romeu there is a 9 hole golf course at a beautiful mountain setting. St Cyprien-Plage has a 27 hole golf course. Spas and thermal baths in Vernet-les-Bains (Rheumatology) and Molitg-les-Bains (Respiratory pathologies and Skin diseases). Outstanding natural sulphurous hot springs in wonderful outdoor mountain setting in St Thomas les Bains. Casino and night club in Vernet les Bains, wine making village – just 6 km away. And a lot more!

How to get there

By air: Our house is only 45 km from the airport of Perpignan. Ryanair flies to Perpignan once a day (or twice during high season) from Stansted. During the summer FlyBE have a daily service from Birmingham and Southampton. And BMIBaby now flies from Mancester. There are also 5 other airports within a 3 -hour drive: Girona, Carcassone, Montpellier, Barcelona, and Toulouse.
By railway: You can use Eurostar and TGV to Perpignan.
And once you've got here - you can either use the local railway to Prades (the station is in 700 m from the house) or hire a car. In any case that won't take you more than 45 minutes - during the busiest time of the season.
By car: From A9 (Motorway from Barcelona to central France) turn to N116. Another 39 km - and you are in front of our gates.

Bathroom, separate water closet. Wonderful view from dining, sitting room and the kitchen. Lshape balcony great for alfresco eating.
Two bedrooms on the ground floor (one double+a comfortable sofa-bed for 1 person, one with a queen size bed, wardrobe in each, ) . Sitting room with a sofa-bed and TV. Shower room and a separate water closet.
A games room has one more very comfortable sofa bed - for 2 people.
A separate entrance to each of the floors.
The property is fenced and secure for children.
And we have table tennis for your entertainment.
A new baby-cot provided on request - with all the bedding.
