The house is a large, 200 year old town house in the centre of an attractive, traditional wine producing village. It is very well equipped and attractively furnished. On the top floor has been created a large room with a well equipped corner kitchen, opening on to a delightful, sunny terrace, with views over the village and beyond. Perfect for relaxing during the heat of the day or enjoying a meal and a glass of wine in the evening on the terrace under a beautiful starlit sky, looking across at the chateau and the pretty church clock which has remained unchanged for many, many years. A perfect place to unwind!
The property is ideal for those wishing to experience authentic French village life. The village is surrounded by spectacular countryside, ideal for exploring by car or for stunning walks. A short drive will take you to some remote and beautiful spots where you can enjoy river or lake bathing, kayaking, and also within 20 -30 mins, access to the extensive Mediterranean beaches.
The house is 2 minutes walk from: a traditional boulangerie; small supermarket; bar/restaurant; newsagent; Post office and twice weekly market. In addition the house is within 15 mins drive of the historic and picturesque medieval town of Pezenas with its craft shops, restaurants, cafes and unique market experience each Saturday morning.

The house formed part of the original village wall and is over 200 years old. It is on 4 floors linked by an attractive spiral staircase.There is a large garage and a traditional entrance hall on the ground floor. There is plenty of parking in the square outside the house.
The second floor comprises well equipped kitchen with large fridge, gas/electric hob & separate oven, microwave & dishwasher,a traditional dining room, comfortable lounge, and cloakroom with wc and washbasin. French doors open from both the dining room and the lounge onto a balcony overlooking the market square.
The third floor has 3 double bedrooms,and one bathroom with wc and shower.
The fourth floor includes a large area for relaxing, with a summer kitchen comprising sink, cooker hob, fridge, freezer and automatic washing machine. French doors lead onto the terrace with dining space for 6 people and a gas barbecue.

The terrace is reached from the top floor of the house and has views across the village and surrounding area. The chateau and church can be seen and are especially attractive in the evening light. It is a perfect place for eating or simply relaxing and enjoying the sun - there is a large parasol for use during the heat of the day.

The Languedoc-Roussillon region
This region of France is famous for its sweeping vineyards and spectacular gorges but probably it is most famous for its beaches . The sweeping expanses of sandy beaches and long hours of sunshine make this coast a paradise for sunbathing, swimming and water sports. From the south of the region the Pyrénées can be explored.
It is one of France's most diverse regions. Inland, spectacular mountains are cut by deep gorges and beautiful wild valleys offering opportunities for every type of outdoor activity.
You will find lively cities, historic towns and fortified villages provide more than enough sight-seeing.The coastline is mostly flat with mile upon mile of safe sandy beaches. Behind the coast are plains and marshes home to a huge variety of birds and wildlife. The region borders the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean to the south and east and the Massif Central to the north. It is crossed by the Canal du Midi, a man-made canal from Toulouse to the Mediterranean. Inhabited by the Romans and the Cathars the area is rich in history.
Pezenas is an attractive old town, unspoiled by modern development, with narrow streets to explore as well as some grand 17th century houses.
The church of Saint-Jean-de-Bébian is classified as a historic monument, and the other main church - the church of Saint-Ursule also merits a visit. The town is also reputed for its antique and bric-a-brac shops.
The town is especially proud of its association with Moliere, who brought his troupe to the town on several occasions, and has a monument to commemorate the fact by the reputed sculptor Jean-Antoine Anjelbert. As a consequence, each summer Pezenas plays host to the Mirondela de l'Arte, and music and street entertainment takes over the town.
Not to be missed when you are at Pezenas is the nearby (12 km) Abbey at Valmagne, a classified historic monument and very beautiful abbey and cloister.
The village of Pouzolles where the house is actually situated is about 15 mins drive from Pezenas. It has a chateau, a traditional village square under the plane trees where a 'brasucade' and dancing takes place every Friday evening in the Summer. There are interesting walks around the village including the local 'volcano' walk which has some beautiful views across the vineyards, and quaint old streets to explore in the village itself.

"A holiday rental to return to"
The house was lovely and we had a good two weeks relaxing. We loved the tall windows and shutters. It is very much of the area in style and location. Everything was clean and tidy in the house, and pleasantly furnished. The stairs did seem a lot at the begining, but after 2 weeks we were bounding up and down. A car was essential but we enjoyed exploring the area. The Village square has lively get togethers on Friday evenings. We prefered river swimming to the beach, canoeing, swimming, eating out, lazing in the sun and just sitting around on the terrace which we loved. The mountains are stunning and although my French is basic, or less, and the area is very French, we made do with sign language . People were keen to help us when needed. It is not too far from the beach and waterparks for teenagers to enjoy. It is an area we enjoyed and would happily return to. The House was everything we needed and wanted and the owner, Vivienne,was a pleasure to deal with. We have already recommended this rental to several people.

"We fell in love with the Herault , the village and the house ."
If you are looking for a home from home in an unpoilt village , in a very interesting and diverse part of France you will be delighted with this property. The house has everything you could need for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The roof terrace is an absolute delight . You will need to be reasonably agile to cope with the stairs but the excercise helps keep excesses at the boulangerie in check ! You will get a small insight into rural village life and the locals are really friendly.It is an excellent base to explore the mountains , gorges , medieval villages , bustling towns as well as the coast. There are also plenty of good restaurants nearby to drive to and excellent local wines to sample . We were captivated by the area and 2 weeks was just not enough !!!!
