The Loire Valley / Indre region
Located in the southern Loire Valley bordering the Limousin and the Creuse, were you can relax & enjoy the beautiful countryside of rural France. Visit one of the surrounding villages, including Chateaumeillant where you can try the local wine, or Gargilesse, popular with artists & musicians. Visit the homes & museum of George Sand, French novelist and the lover of Chopin. There are many swimming lakes with beaches and activities for both children & adults. The town of La Châtre (10 mins drive) has a good selection of restaurants/bar, several supermarkets, shops & banks, the Saturday morning market ,selling a good variety of local produce. For a day out with the children you have Futurascope at Poitiers, Beauval Zoo at Tours
Pouligny Notre Dame area
The hamlet of Ligny has a 10 acre carp fishing lake (just 5mins walk from cottage) with area for boules and play area for children. The village of Pouligny Notre Dame offers, tennis courts,18 hole golf course with driving range & putting green, horseriding, rambling routes, it is also a good area for cycling. During the months of June & July there are 2 festivals held at the lake.
Pouligny Notre Dame has 2 restaurants/bars, one offering a good selection of food day/evening including plat du jour the other located at the hotel serving gatronomie or just take a drink at the bar and enjoy the view over the golf course and countryside.
The nearby village of St Severe (made famous by Jacques Tati in 1947 for the film Jour de Fete), has a good Boulangerie, grocery store, and a local produce market on Wednesday.
