Home description
A fantastic property for large families or 2 families holidaying together. 5 bedrooms (4 doubles and 1 triple), 4 bathrooms, large living room and dining room with log fire with table and seating for 11. Heated private pool (May to September), 1 acre of gardens including half an acre of woodland for the children to explore. The house has private wooden gates onto the road and the rest of the property is surrounded by fields and woodland. You feel that you are way from it all, and yet the village is only a 5 minute walk away.
The house has an outdoor dining terrace with table and seating for your group and a BBQ. There is also a children’s play area in the garden which is gated off and has a playhouse and a sandpit.
2 bedrooms have balconies overlooking the fields and the mountains of the Pyrenees. 1 bedroom has its own private garden terrace. 4 bedrooms are en suite and the other bedroom has its own large private bathroom with bath and shower.
There is also a selection of mountain bikes available for your group including some children’s bikes and a baby seat carrier.

The Aquitaine / Dordogne / Landes region
Houtsak Ina is situated in Pouillon in the south of the Landes department (40) and bordering the Pays Basque department (64). The situation is fabulously placed to make the most of the glorious sandy surfing beaches of the Landes and also the stunning foothills of the Pyrenees and indeed the magnificent mountains themselves.
Within 40 minutes you can be on the golden coastline that stretches almost uninterrupted from Biarritz and St Jean de Luz in the South up to Bordeaux in the North of Aquataine. Every watersport imaginable is on offer - from ssurfing, body boarding, wake boarding to sailing, diving and snorkeling, this piece of coast has it all.
In the forests of the Landes you also have access to fantastic walking, mountain biking, road biking and horse riding or trekking. And of course, don’t forget, an hour away, start the chateaux and fantastic wines of Bordeaux.
40 minutes to the South and you are starting to climb into the Pyrenean Mountains, with all their stunning scenery and charging rivers. Take your pick from white water rafting, canoeing, fishing, canoeing, climbing, ice climbing, pot holing, caving, walking and, of course, in the winter, skiing and cross country skiing.
Pouillon / Mesplerot area
Pouillon is a lovely little village just 15 minutes south of Dax, the thermal spa capital of France. It is also perfectly placed in between the airports of Biarritz and Pau serviced by Ryan Air from Stansted.
Pouillon has great amenities: the supermarket, 2 bakers, 1 butchers, wine cave, 1 bar, 1 hotel, 3 restaurants including the Michelin Rosiette Rated Auberge Pas du Vent and a stunning medieval church.
Pouillon has a scenic lake just 10 minutes by bicycle with walks, pedalos, crazy golf, fishing, tennis courts, petanque pitches, children’s sandy play area and a restaurant.
Pouillon also boasts its own rugby team with floodlit training pitches, 6 tennis courts, and municipal swimming pool.
How to get there
Pouillon is within easy reach of the UK and Ireland with great flights provided by many of the budget airlines into Biarritz, Pau, Bordeaux, Toulouse or Bilbao. Ryan Air, Easy Jet, BMi, British Airways and FlyBe are the main carriers. Best flights are into Pau and Biarritx with Ryan Air or EasyJet, followed by a 45 minute car ride.
Car hire is through the usual agents with plenty of choice at all airports, ferry ports and train stations.
For those that don't like to fly you can get the Eurostar to France and then TGV down to Dax. Or there is the 24 ferry crossing into Spain - into Bilbao/ Santander.

Hi Amy & Benn
Just wanted to say an enormous thank-you for the wonderful week we spent in 'sunny' SW France. I've just uploaded the photos, having been back at work this week, & have relived the week.
It is a great testament to both your skills as hosts that we honestly didn't care what the weather was like - we had such a great, fun-filled week. I have certainly never had a holiday quite like it - the amazing food, your lovely house and family and the activities that we could never have arranged ourselves in a million years. We asked the boys which bit they enjoyed most & they couldn't pick - they said it was all equally good. They wouldn't have like to have missed the wine tasting & the insights into other peoples lives as well as the more obvous things such as surfing & rafting. I think the fact that there was such a mixed group helped enormously; I don't think i would have enjoyed the rafting & jumping off rocks half as much if we all hadn't done it. I'd have probably said I was far too old for that sort of thing!
Amy.....what can i say, apart from the fact that it was the best food we have ever had on holiday. You are a wonderful, innovative chef using all local ingredients. You've given me lots of ideas, so thank you.
My daughter has suggested we write about the holiday on Trip Adviser as lots of her friends check with the site before booking holidays. What do you think? I would only do it if you were OK about it. We will also be telling everyone we know.
