Within the villa there are three independant and private units, which will sleep from 2 to 7 people 'Carmen' sleeps 2/4, 'Tosca' 4/6 (2 bathrooms) and 'Don Giovanni' up to 7 (2 bathrooms). Casa San Matteo is a Moorish influenced 18th Century villa surrounded by quiet gardens and fruit trees and is situated in the middle of the pyramid of buildings that form Positano. 3 beautiful and different units provide comfort and privacy when holidaying with family and friends or as a couple.

The site, surrounded by trees and gardens, assures a quiet and relaxing stay. The extraordinarily thick walls keep the interior pleasantly cool during the summertime.
Like most houses in Positano, Casa San Matteo is reached by stairs (Via Monte). There are approximately 100 steps to walk down from the closest bus stop or car park. A regular bus service is available every 20 minutes. The bus stop is at the beginning of Via Monte. It is however possible to reach most places in Positano, including the beach, in ten to fifteen minutes walk.

The Campania region

An ancient rural region, Campania scenery makes comprises of rolling hills, peppered with Roman relics and monuments is a pleasant and idyllic place to try real Italian food as it was in fact the birthplace of the modern pizza, other gastronomic treats famously available in from Campania include Struffoli and Limoncello.

Some of the country’s best sports teams are also based in the region, including football teams, volleyball and water polo teams. Why not spend an evening taking in some of the more recent sports introduced to the area such as tennis or even basketball.

Positano area

The historic town of Positano is situated on the steep mountains that dive deep into the sea, creating a perfectly dramatic setting for a holiday. The imposing 13th century church is well worth a visit and features majolica tiles in its dome as well as an icon of the black Madonna. The dramatic setting also has been featured in a number of films including 'Only You' and 'Under the Tuscan Sun'. The popular destination has a pleasant Mediterranean climate, with temperatures peaking at 30c in the summer.

How to get there

Naples is the closest airport (appox 60km) from Positano. Airlines such as BMI, British Airways, Easy Jet, Monach and Tompsonfly etc have flights (some 2/3 times day) from UK and there are also International flights.
Car Rentals include: Avis, Hertz, Budget and Europcar all based at the airport.
There is a local car (taxi but very upmarket) firm in Positano: www.positanocarservice.com that will meet you at Naples airport and drive you to Positano (cost in 2007 Euro 110.00 approx)
Approx drive time from Naples airport to Positano, 2 hours ( but probably quicker if you are being driven)
OR
Trains.
From Rome, trains run to Naples about every hour and the journey is approx 2 hours.You can then either arrange to be met by a car or take the local train (Circumvesuviana) from Naples railway station to Sorrento, the end of the line. There you can either be met by a car again or catch the local "SITA" bus that departs from just outside the Sorrento railway station and passes by Positano (the top road only, not into the town itself, but it's all down hill!)
There is also a ferry that goes from Naples to Positano, so you have lots of choices ( to cater for all types of budgets)
If you are driving, say from Rome, it is a fairly straight run, basically stay on the A1 autostrade until Naples area and look for signs "Amalfi Coast" Then look for signs saying Positano. More detailed driving instructions will be provided on confirmation of booking, with regards to car parks in Positano that are available for day and weekly bookings.

Further details outdoors:
Each unit has its own private and independantly accessed terrace, overlooking the sea, village and coast. All terraces are very well equipped for eating and relaxing and some have outdoor showers and bbqs.

PLEASE NOTE. We have three separate units that sleep from 2 to 7 people ( the whole villa can sleep up to 15 people) but all units are private and totally independant if necessary. Short term lets are available up June 14 2008. More details are available from the owner.
