About the home

A bright two bedroom apartment, which combines both modern and features and antique furniture in the double bedroom, rteflecting the style of the region. The twin bedroom is very spacious and comfortable. The main bedroom and living room open out onto a long balcony, which offers an amazing view of the valley, the cliff top houses and the beach. The apartment offers a functional open-plan kitchen, dining and living area and is air conditioned throughout.
The local grocery shop is convenienthly located in the vicinity of the apartment.

The Campania region

Naples, the capital of the Campania Region, is a complex and multi layered city. Beneath the frantic streets, the
Baroque buildings and the many markets, sits a world of catacombs, ancient cults and ruins.

"Commedia dell'arte" was born here and the ' Teatro San Carlo' is one of the world great opera house.

Naples will always be Italy's pizza capital. During a visit to Naples in 1889, the Italian King Umberto and his wife Queen Margherita summoned the city's top 'pizzaiolo' Raffaele Esposito to cook for them. Esposito based his creation of tomato, mozzarella and basil on the red, white and green flag of the newly unified Italy, winning the Queen's approval. It was subsequently named in her honour.

The views across the Bay of Naples are amazing. From Posillipo in Naples you can look East over the entire bay, round to Mt. Vesuvius and the Sorrentine Peninsula. Here you'll find Italy's great archaeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum - a small fishing town. Then, in 79BC, the Vesuvius erupted, burying the towns under a mix of molten lava, ash and mud.

The beautiful island of Capri was already a holiday resort in the 1st century AD. Emperor Tiberius had 12 villas built on the island. The best preserved is Villa Jovis.

The Positano area

This dramatically beautiful town clinging to the cliff face as if about to cascade into the turquoise waters below. Once a vital part of a mighty sea power, Positano is today a sophisticated Tyrrhenian resort on the central Amalfi Coast. Moorish- style architecture rises up steep slopes that gaze out on the Sirenuse Islands. Smart boutiques, selling beach fashions for visitors to display on Grand Beach, bustle in the village. Ravello and other parts of the Campagna region are within easy reach of the town of 4,000. Boats depart daily for day trips to Capri and Ischia. Others head to Grotta dello Smeraldo cave.

Positano was a port of the Amalfi Republic in medieval times, and prospered in the 16th and 17th centuries. But by the mid-19th century, the town had fallen on hard times. More than half the population emigrated, mostly to Australia.

Positano was a relatively poor fishing village during the first half of the 20th century. It began to attract large numbers of tourists in the 1950s, especially after John Steinbeck published his essay about Positano in Harper's Bazaar in May, 1953: "Positano bites deep", Steinbeck wrote. "It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone."

Sunbathers, swimmers and water-sport enthusiasts enjoy a choice of beaches in Positano. The central Spiaggia Grande is located near the centre of the town. Four other popular beaches are La Porta, Ciumicello, Arienzo and Fomillo. Be prepared for beaches of small pebbles and grey volcanic sand, great views of the sea and rock formation.

The church of Santa Maria Assunta features a dome made of majolica tiles as well as a 13th Byzantine century icon of a black Madonna. According to local legend, the icon had been stolen from Byzantium and was being transported by pirates across the Mediterranean. A terrible storm had blown up in the waters opposite Positano and the frightened sailors heard a voice on board saying "Posa, posa!" ("Put down! Put down!"). The precious icon was unloaded and carried to the fishing village and the storm abated.

Today, tourism is by far the major industry in Positano. Positano is also very popular for L"Albertissimo", an alcoholic tipple that can only be found at a small stall at the main harbour called "L'alternativa".

One of the wonders of the Amalfi Coast is food, sometimes above its amazing beautry.

- La Tagliata: simply one of the best restaurant in the area that delivers 100% of the time. Take the local yellow bus to Montepertuso, a small town up hill, or call the restaurant for thier pick up and drop off service, 10 minutes drive.

- Da Vincenzo: this great little spot is open for lunch and dinner and is about half way up the hills of Positano. you can walk or take the bus...it's easy!

- Grottino Azzurro: a favourite little local spot in Positano. Next door to the Bar Internazionale, near
Chiesa Nuova.

Shopping - since the 1960's Positano has cultivated his own siganture style, Mainstays are summery dresses, custom sandals and beachwear. Viale Pasitea is home to many of Positano's boutique. Safari, a small sandals shop in Via della Tartana, boast that customer can choose from more than 300 styles of sandals.

There are also a number of markets to choose from in the neighbouring towns.
Try il " Mercatino di Piano di Sorrento" a mixture of clothes, shoes, bags and linen. Every Monday morning. Closed in August.

Take a hike! There are several hiking trails that begin on Positano's outskirts. The Sentiero degli Dei (The trail of Gods) is perhaps the best known trail - a magical walk through the countryside with 'divine' views of Amalfi Coast

A fantastic fireworks display takes place at mid-night on the beach of Spiaggia Grande, on the 15th August to commemorate the arrival of the 13th Byzantine century icon of the black Madonna.

EasyJet/BA/Monarch and many more European companies fly to Nales-Capodichino Airport. Long distance travellers may need changeover in Rome or can continue the journey to Naples by train in about 2 hours. Once in Naples take a Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento, about 1 hour. Then, a SITA bus to Positano, 30 minutes.

From Naples airport - Bus 3S/Alibus to Piazza Garibaldi, 15/30min. Then, a Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento, and a bus to Positano. please by all tickets before boarding the bus/train/boat.

By sea: Bus 152 from Piazza Garibaldi in Naples to Molo Beverello, 10min; a ferry or hydrofoil to Positano, 1.30min (Metro' del Mare/Alilauro). Please buy all tickets before boarding the bus/train/ferry. Tickets can be purchased in most bars and tobacconists, as well as ticket offices.

Driving from the airport is another possibility by renting a car - Avis Autonoleggio, Hertz, Europcar are some of the car-rental companies based at the airport. take the A3 autostrada to Vietri sul Mare, and then follow the SS163 coastal road (65km), about 2 hours for those not too familiar with the road

A Curreri bus to and from the airport to Sorrento, about 1 hour. Then, a SITA bus to Positano.
