The Sardinia region
Long uninhabited, despite its ancient geological origin, Sardinia has preserved its own freshness, capturing the gaze and admiration of many who, in the flow of centuries, irresistibly attracted by the geographical position, the heart of the western Mediterranean, have made it the object of the most different designs: the Phoenicians followed by Carthaginians, the Romans afterwards, the Byzantines, the Spanish and the Piemontese.Sardinia is the Heart of Mediterranean Culture... you will find Nuraghi dating back thousands of years, rocks sculptured by time and the elements into strange shapes, monuments which bear witness to the island's rich history...
Sport in Sardinia is the Heart of Adventure... air, land, water. Whatever your ideal element is you will find an incredible choice of the most enchanting places to practice your chosen sport in close contact with nature...like Scuba diving and snorkelling, snorkelling, rock climbing, horse riding , sport fishing, trekking, surfing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and many others..
Sardinia is the Heart of Genuine Flavours.... a table laid with delicacies before a crystal clear sea or surrounded by green valleys. Tasting the island's traditional specialities never ceases to be an extraordinary discovery (Cheesy delights, Torrone, Honey specialities, almond specialities, wines...). Sardinia is the Heart of Ancient Knowledge... precious knives, jewellery in gold and silver filigree, painted ceramics, wrought iron objects, hand-woven rugs, embroidered shawls... is an Island with a Green Heart.... unspoilt countryside, protected marine parks, woods and forests, navigable lakes and marshland where flamingos nest and offer spectacular pink displays...
The sea in Sardinia is a Heart of Water... white sandy beaches, limpid water in all shades of blue and green. Enjoy the magical experience of a swim in this breathtaking seascape or dive down to admire the seabed...
Posada: Set securely on top of a calcareous cliff mantled in euphorbia and mastic trees, Posada is overlooked by the ruins of the Castle della Fava. It was built in the XII century by the Judges of Gallura and was then conquered by the Judges of Arborea, before passing under the control of the Aragonese. The territory has been inhabited since ancient times, as is demonstrated by the Carthaginian colony of Feronia. During the period of the “Giudicati”, it was an important centre but then fell into decline under the numerous Saracen raids. The village maintains its medieval layout with winding little streets joined by steep steps, arches and small squares. The grey stone hoses have been gradually rebuilt. The castle has also undergone restoration; a wooden staircase leads to the top of the square tower from where you can enjoy a wonderful panorama of the sea, of the estuary of the River Posada and over the plain covered with citrus-fruit orchards.
Towards the inland areas, we find Lake Posada which is surrounded by pine forests and is one of the many artificial basins of the Island. Furthermore, the Fava Castle is of notable interest, built by the Pisans just before 1200, and also the Parish Church of Sant'Antonio Abate, dating to 1324, but rebuilt in the seventeenth century. It is also worth taking part in the Feast of Sant'Antonio Abate, the Patron Saint of the village. The celebrations take place in the square where a huge pile of "mudregu" (rockroses)are burnt. The ritual includes three turns around the lighted bonfire, followed by a procession. The sweets called "cogoneddos" are given out on the occasion of this feast. The beach " su Tiriarzu" is found in the locality and municipal area of Posada. It is easily reached by coming out of Posada and following the signposts to the beaches. The beach is located past the pools of Tondu and Longu, overlooked by a bridge that gives access to Su Tiriarzu; the beach has quite fine, light-coloured sand mixed with a few seashells. To the rear, located upon a calcareous spur, rises the medieval Castello della Fave with its square tower. Its waters are crystal clear and of a changing blue due to the plays of light created by the sun reflecting off the sea bed. A further splash of colour is provided by the green of the vegetation that crowns the beach.
The beach has a host of facilities: It has a large car park which is also suitable for campervans, hotel, campsite, café and refreshment point and has shallow waters which allow children to play safely in the sea. It is possible to rent beach umbrellas, sun loungers and pedal boats. Being windy, it is an ideal spot for surfers and also loved by scuba fishing enthusiasts and by those simply wishing to dive in its waters, perhaps with a mask and flippers to admire the underwater world rich in pleasant surprises
