The County Derry region
Portstewart is one of Northern Ireland's most scenic seaside resorts. Part of the famous Causeway Coastal Route the town is an ideal base for numerous tpyes of holiday.
Portstewart area
A few minutes from the house is the famous Portstewart Strand, two miles of yellow sand which is one of Northern Ireland’s finest and most popular Blue Flag beaches, and which is suitable for a wide range of leisure activities - from bathing and swimming, to horse riding, dog walking, windsurfing and jet skiing, and also the Barmouth, a sanctuary for waders, wildfowl and nesting birds. This, along with the Mussenden Temple and Downhill Demesne at Downhill, the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, and the Giant’s Causeway, - which is the only World Heritage Site in Northern Ireland - are under the care of the National Trust.
Close by are many tourist attractions including the Dunluce Centre, www.dunlucecentre.co.uk in Portrush, the Bushmills Distillery www.bushmills.com, Watertop Farm www.watertopfarm.co.uk , Benvarden Gardens www.benvarden.co.uk , and of course the most scenic route in the British Isles, the Antrim coast Road http://www.moyle-council.org/attractions/?id=2 .
The beaches, scenery, friendliness and hospitality of County Donegal, in the neighbouring country of Ireland, are easily accessible thanks to the Greencastle/Magilligan ferry http://www.loughfoyleferry.com which is a twenty minute drive away. The historic city of Derry, the most complete walled city in Europe is also within easy driving distance.
Portstewart, with it’s neighbour Portrush, play host to many festivals during the summer months including the Famous Portstewart Red Sails Festival and the NI International International Air Show www.colerainebc.gov.uk/.
Some of the many activities available in the area include, golfing, fishing, boat trips, horse riding, walking, tennis, surfing, and just touring around to admire the spectacular scenery and maybe stop for tea at one of the many quaint tearooms along the coast.
Portstewart is well served by numerous restaurants, cafes, takeaways and of course the famous Morrelli’s Ice cream Parlour on the Promenade.
