The Aberdeenshire region

The Banffshire Coast – a place of undisturbed natural beauty where dolphins, gannets, porpoises, puffins, and the occasional whale, make their home.

And who would blame them when Banffshire has such an unspoilt environment on the land, in the sea and in the air?

You'll find our coastline dotted with fishing villages which have remained remarkably well preserved and which have resisted the advances of too much modern development.

Our coastline is dramatic and breathtaking but very accessible and safe with many waymarked cliff top walks. And, there are our special beaches where you may be alone, but never lonely as there's always the chance to spot the dolphins at play or the gannets fishing for lunch.

The air is ozone-fresh and the light, which has attracted many artists to live and work here, has a luminescent quality which is hard to define but stays in the memory.

Portsoy

Portsoy is an ideal location to explore the North of Scotland. Everywhere is easily accessible including Royal Deeside, Speyside, the Cairngrorm Mountains and Aviemore Ski Resort plus you can also drive to Loch Ness and back in 1 day. We are also equidistant from both Aberdeen and Inverness airports which are just approx. 1 hours drive away. Throughout the year there are numerous events and festivals taking place in and around the region including the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival held each year at Portsoy, the Speyfest Whisky Festival to name a couple as well as the traditional programme of highland games across the region which start in May and go through to September. Aberdeenshire has the most number of castles in the whole of the Uk from dramatic ruins jutting out into the sea to Balmoral Castle the private residence of the Queen.
