The Central Southern England / Hampshire region
Hampshire is a popular holiday area, with tourist attractions including its many seaside resorts, the maritime area and Historic Dockyard at Portsmouth, and the motor museum at Beaulieu. The New Forest National Park lies within the borders, as does a large area of the South Downs which is scheduled to become a National Park. Hampshire has a long maritime history and two of England's largest ports lie on its coast. The county is famed as home of the writers Jane Austen and Charles Dickens.
Hampshire has a milder climate than most areas of the British Isles, being in the far south with the climate stabilising effect of the sea, but protected against the more extreme weather of the Atlantic coast.
The Portsmouth / Gosport area
The Retreat at 33a is located in the heart of the beautiful Alverstoke Village and within a short five minute walk of several restaurants and pubs. Stokes Bay Beach a few minutes walk from the house is lovely for picturesque walks with great views of the Isle of Wight and yachts in The Solent.
Alverstoke is a gem of a village, bursting with original charm yet boasting a full range of modern amenities including a village pub, off licence, general store, post office, hairdresser, gift and antique shops, restaurants, tearoom and fish & chip shop. All within two minutes' walk of the property.
The area offers visitors a variety of natural, historical and naval attractions, as well as beautiful coastal walks.
We are able to arrange for rib rides and sailing days on The Solent, which is a great way of exploring what the area has to offer.
Gunwharf Quays have a range of excellent waterfront restaurants and bars as well as the Historical Dockyard where you can visit The Warrior, Nelson's famous ship The Victory and The Mary Rose - to name just a few!
A superb network of public transport includes a foot passenger ferry from Gosport to Portsmouth (a 5-minute journey), and regular train and bus services ensuring easy access to all areas and a car is not essential.
You have the choice of two beaches whilst on holiday here. Stokes Bay Beach with its unspoilt coastline, wine bar and bistro and wonderful views.. Popular for sunbathing, sailing and windsurfing. Lee on Solent Beach is located a ten minute drive from the property, offering a variety of restaurants with many jet-skiers and kite-surfers enjoying the facilities available.
