Enquire nowThe Central Southern England / Hampshire region
Portsmouth is located in the picturesque Hamphire County, the largest county in South East England.
Hampshire's tourist attractions include many seaside resorts, the motor museum at Beaulieu, with national parks in both New Forest and the South Downs (covering some 45% of the county). Hampshire has a long maritime history and two of England's largest ports, Portsmouth and Southampton, lie on its coast. The county is famed as home of such writers as Jane Austen and Charles Dickens, as well as the birthplace of engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
The county town of Hampshire is Winchester, the former capital city of England.
Hampshire is notable for housing the original birthplaces of the Royal Navy, British Army, and Royal Air Force.
A rich cultural heritage, varied coastline, vibrant cities and bustling market towns, unspoilt countryside makes Hampshire an ideal holiday destination.
The Portsmouth / Old Portsmouth area
Portsmouth was founded circa 1180 and received its first charter from Richard I (Richard the Lionheart) in 1194. Since then the city has been a key player in many major historical events, including Nelson's last battle at Trafalgar, the sailing of the First Fleet to Australia, and the D-Day Landings.
Portsmouth has a wealth of attractions with something for everyone. Visit the Historic Dockyard (home of HMS Victory, Royal Navy's most famous warship) and experience 800 years of naval history, take a trip to the top of the Spinnaker Tower, find out more about the historic landings at the D-Day Museum, go back to Tudor times at Southsea Castle or uncover the history of the Royal Marines. Treat the children to a trip to the fair at Clarence Pier or go on a safari under the sea at Blue Reef Aquarium.
Portsmouth offers a unique shopping experience; from the award winning Gunwharf Quays and major high-street names in the city centre to the array of independent, vintage and quirky shops in Southsea.
As well as 90 designer outlets for you to shop in, there are plenty of other ways to spend your day at Gunwharf Quays. There are 30 cosmopolitan bars and restaurants, a 14-screen cinema, 26-lane bowling complex, contemporary art gallery, comedy club, casino and nightclub. A year-round events programme of music, street theatre and seasonal festivals adds ambience and something different to every visit.
Landscaped in a historic setting, with the famous Dockyard and Old Portsmouth only a short walk away, Gunwharf Quays is where old and new come together. Once you've experienced shopping in the pedestrian avenues, soaked up the spectacular views across the harbour, and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere, we're sure you'll be back time and time again.

Florentina is a very welcoming hostess. Our stay was so comfortable and enjoyable because she went out of her way to make us feel at home. |

This house is perfectly placed to visit Portsmouth being so close to Gunwharf Quays and is easy walking distance to Clarence Pier and the funfair at Southsea. The hovertravel port at Clarence Pier gives easy access, by foot, to Ryde on the Isle of Wight too. There is also a ferry port to Fishbourne right around the corner from the house if you want to take the car onto the island too. The walk into the city centre isn't too bad either for the more energetic, and same can be said of the further seafront at Southsea to South Pier. We were able to leave the car completely for the week, which is a nice change from many holiday rentals, which can often be too far away from the seafront or attractions. It also saves paying parking fees, which can quickly mount up. The house itself is comfortable with a nice private garden. The owner gave us a warm welcome and was kind enough to show us the short cuts through the estate. The estate is very quiet despite the proximity of the Gunwarf and the Ferry port. The owner is currently making a few improvements to furniture and decor which will really help the house as in a couple of places it looks a little tired and in need if the upcoming improvements. The kitchen could be a little better equipped, but we managed OK, just don't attempt to cook a 3 course meal. We really appreciated the extra touches of a bottle of milk, bottled water, fruit, and tea and coffee. Overall this is nice holiday let and is recommended. Response: Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review and for your very kind comments. I am constantly working on improving the house and since your visit, a lot of things have changed, including the furniture in all 3 bedrooms, and various bits and pieces in the living room. My goal is to deliver good value for money and I hope I have achieved that. With over 30 bars and restaurants within 5 min walk from the house, a lot of people have hardly used the kitchen, but I will revisit its contents and add more pots and pans, etc. for the future. It was a pleasure to welcome you to 'Seabreaze' and I hope to see you again. |
