House | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 4
Number Fourteen is a bright, clean, comfortable modern house. It is well equipped with everything needed to have a relaxing family holiday.
The house is located in a quiet, peaceful no-through street (where Isambard Kingdom Brunel was born). A car is not need as it is so close to Gunwharf Quays and the Historic Dock Yard, approximately 300m, and approximately 500m respectfully.
Ideal for exploring the D-Day exhibitions and history in Portsmouth and the surrounding area.
Opposite is a large well maintained gated park ideal for all ages of children from toddlers to older who might enjoy the basket ball court.
There is a secure court, which is a great sun-trap. Lovely for relaxing and that evening drink after a hard day sight seeing.
There are three upstairs bedrooms two of which are doubles. The fourth bedroom is conveniently downstairs (as is a cloakroom). All bedrooms have lovely comfy beds and modern furniture.
There is an upstairs family bathroom with shower and downstairs cloakroom.
As you enter the house you walk into a super, large fully equipped modern kitchen.
To your left is the snuggly lounge with leather sofa. A fast Wi-fi system and Wii (a great hit).
Parking is located outside the house (parking permits available which cover the whole local area).
Number Fourteen is next to Gunwharf Quays a cosmopolitan waterfront area where the Spinnaker Tower is located, for increadable views of the Solent, Isle of Wright and even The New Forest on a really sunny day(although I won't walk on the glass ceiling as it is very scary!).
Gunwharf is ideal for amazing meals, restaurants include Jamie Oliver and Raymond Blanc (we have been, its super the service is warm and friendly). relax, have a coffee while watching the boats go by. Loads of designer shops for shopaholics.
Fourteen is located only a few minutes walk are Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, Old Portsmouth, Southsea Common, Royal Marine Museum, D-Day Museum, The Round Tower, fish market as well as guided tours both walking and cycling, and so many other exiting activities for both adults and children.
To keep the children entertained there is the Blue Reef Aquarium, Pyramids Swimming Pool, a hoover craft ride, tennis and Action Stations at the Historic Dockyard.

The Central Southern England region
Hampshire is a beautiful county which has two National Parks 'The New Forest' and 'The Southdown's National Park'. These are areas of outstanding beauty with diverse habitats and amazing wildlife.
There is masses of history in the area from King Arthur to Eisenhower and Churchill planning the D-Day landings.
With its rolling downland, chalky streams, sleepy villages and mild climate it is an ideal place for walking , cycling and horse riding. There are lots of places to visit some of these are; an owl raptor and reptile centre, Longdown Farm where you can feed the animals, Marwell Zoological Park, Paultons Park (a theme park), historic castles, Roman Villas and much more.
I love Winchester which is the ancient capital of England soaked in history with its famous cathedral and King Arthur's Round Table it is a super place to visit.
Then for top class sailing, windsurfing and kayaking, look no further than the Solent.
Within a short walking distance of the house is Gunwharf Quays, City Centre and the Historic Dockyard. Gun Wharf is a cosmopolitan area situated on the seafront over looking the Solent and the Isle of Wight. It has lots of bars and restaurants including Raymond Blancs 'Brasserie Blanc' and Jamie Oliver's 'Italian'.
Gunwharf also has a 28 screen multiplex cinema, designer retail outfits, bowling and of cause the Spinnaker Tower.
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is a great day out and also a short walk away. This is the home of the Tudor warship 'Mary Rose', the first Iron hulled warship HMS Warrior and Admiral Lord Nelsons warship HMS Victory.
Visit the action-packed high seas adventure that is Action Stations.
Enjoy a tour of the harbour by boat and see some of the Royal Naval Fleet as there are generally a number of battle ships docked in the harbour.
Within walking distance or a short drive are the beaches.
Also within walking distance or a short drive are the The Blue Reef Aquarium, tennis, Play-zone, the Fun-fair, Pyramids Centre with funky flumes and Spa, Pirate Petes, Fort Purbrook, Royal Marines Museum, D-Day Museum, The summer Real Ale and Food festival, Hampshire Farmers Markets, Guided walks and every Sunday afternoon Bandstand concerts on Southsea Common playing all styles and genres, theatres, and so much more.

"Comfortable well-equipped house, good value and well-placed for all the best bits of Portsmouth"
The house was very clean, comfortable and well-equipped, with plenty of room for us and outr two teenagers; it was great to have all the bed linen and (big white fluffy) towels provided, and to arrive to a lovely welcome basket from the owner. The owner kept in touch throughout the week to check all was OK, without being in any way intrusive, and we knew she was on hand to help if needed.
Parking was easy and convenient directly outside the house, though we hardly used the car during our stay, as all the best bits of Portsmouth - the beach, historic dockyard, harbour, outlet shopping centre and leisure complex, Albert Road and Southsea, etc. - are all within easy walking distance. There is definitely plenty to do in the city for a week's stay, though for two weeks you'd possibly want to venture further afield.
Having the Wii and Wifi available was great for our game- and Facebook-addicted teenagers, keeping them entertained while we relaxed with a book and a glass of wine. The one negative was that the compact living room felt slightly too cosy if we were all in there together to watch something on TV.
I'd certainly recommend the house as a great place to stay for a week in Portsmouth.
